  1. My doctor stated to continue to take my thryoid meds and to follow up with my primary care doctor to deterime if I need a lower does of the med. My doctor said if the pill is large then I need to crush it. My pill is very tiny and I break it into 2 parts prior to taking the dose. I have chewable vitamins and chewable calcuim chews.
  2. My doctor left the decision to me and I was banded on November 11 with a 10cc Lap Band. My doctor pre-filled it during the surgery with 10cc and I am doing well. As far as returning to work, there is no way I could have gone back after a couple of days. I am still in pain and I am sleeping off and on. However, the pain meds help and so does the walking. I am getting better and I am feeling stronger. I took two weeks of from work to focus on my recovery...no stress...just plenty of relaxing. I return to my stationary job on November 24 and then work three days and have another four days off.
  3. I had my surgery on November 11 and left the hospital November 13, because of pain management. I have reactions to certain pain meds and was limited in what I could take for relief. I am at home now and I continue to take the liquid Loritab. I take it when I need it. When the pain was unbearable, I also questioned why I did this procedure. But every day I am getting stronger and feeling better, thus I am happy with my decision to have the procedure. I did take two weeks off work for my recovery, which I am so thankful I did. I continue to walk and I am feeling better. It just takes time to recover. Best of luck to you.
  4. I did not have to take my clothes off, but I did have to take my shoes and socks off.
  5. Whatever you do don't give up. There is plenty of support here on this board and you are never alone. I would ask the same questions as the other people have posted. How much exercie are you doing? Are you losing inches and maybe gained muscle? How is your Protein intake? Are you sticking to a fill schedule when you need it?
  6. I had to complete a 6-month supervised diet with weigh ins. I completed a psyche eval. Those two items were required by my insurance company. The bariatric doctor required that I attend a pre-op support meeting. Complete an introduction meeting. Complete a nutrition class. Then the bariatric doctor required me to complete an upper GI and a Hpy-lori test. Plus I had to have had a recent mamogram, which I always have annually. Then I had to complete bllod and urine work, an ekg, and a chest x-ray, which was completed four days before my surgery. Hills Physcisians administers the Blue Shield insurance program in my area. I actually have Blue Shield Net Value Calpers.
  7. Hi photofire: I was just banded on November 11 and I have Blue Shield (Calpers) Hills Physicians. Once I completed the insurance requirements, my primary care doctor and surgeon submitted my paper work to the insurance company for Lap Band surgery. The paper work was sent October 14 and I was approved on October 15. It all happened vey quickly.
  8. I am 5'5" and my doctor placed a 10cc band in me. I asked for the 14cc band, but she felt that it was not necessary.
  9. I realize this post is a year old and I am sure kimmi had surgery by now. But for me, I could not go back to work a couple of days after surgery. I know there are some people who have the energy and stamina to do that, but that is not me. I am taking two weeks off work and I see the doctor post-op on November 26th.
  10. I was approved for surgery on October 15th and I had my surgery on November 11. I did pre-op lab work on November 7, which consisted of an ekg, blood and urine tests, and a chest x-ray. I had completed several other lab test requirements prior to insurance approval. My insurance is Blue Shield/Hills Physcians.
  11. I was just banded on 11/11/08 with a 3cc prefilled New Generation Lap Band, which holds 10 cc. I feel great restriction and I am able to keep fluids down so far.:Dancing_sorry:
  12. Hi Teal: I am doing well. I am drinking lots of fluids. Taking in plenty of sf popcycles to numb my roaring stomache growling. I am trying to focus on my protein intake and fluids. So far so good.
  13. Well, I see my doctor two weeks post op the day before Thanksgiving, so I am hoping I can eat mushies by then. If there doctor approves me to move forward to the stage two diet, I will be able to eat mushies. I will cook a small turkey and blend it. I will mash potatoes with gravie in a blender. At least I hope so.
  14. I also suffered terrible dry heaves and nausea, because of gas paing and pain meds. I went home with an anti-nausea patch behind my ear and I have two more patches just in case. My gas pain was hurting so bad, and because I have a hard time tolerating pain meds, I ended staying an extra night a the hospital. I came home from the hospital yesterday and I am feeling better. I have no gas pains. I have four incisions and the port incision is the most painful, but I am taking liquid Loritab for that. I am doing so much better the third day out from surgery.
  15. Hello everyone: Just a quick update; I was banded on 11/11/08 of this week and everything went very well. Dr. Kim from Alta Bates performed the procedure and she had Dr. Uphday with her as well as proctors from Lap Band. I have a 10cc new generation badn which Dr. Kim pre-filled with 3cc. There was some bleeding with my spleen during surgery, but I am well. I ended up staying at the hospital an extra day, because the pain meds were making very sick to my stomache. I have issuee with RX pain meds. Anyway, gas pain was hurtful, but was releived with walking and pain meds. I passed the swallow test at the hospital and I am now on liquids. I am thankful I took two weeks off from work, because honestly, I would not have been able to go back to work right after the surgery. I am doing well at home, walking, resting, drinking, and passing gas. I feel better at home than at the hospital. No place like home for recovery. My follow appointment is on 11/26/08.:tongue2:
  16. Well, I had my upper GI in October and it was tollerable. I had to drink this nasty pop rock fizzy stuff, which was followed by this think chalky white stuff. Over all the fluids I had to drink for the test were gross. While drinking the fluids I had to turn my body at different angles of the x-ray table. I think it took about 30-minutes to complete. The doctor that performed the procedure was very nice and so was his assistant. My tests results were good and I am having surgery tomorrow morning.
  17. I cannot wait for the day when I am back down below 200. My surgery is on Tuesday, November 11 and reading your post gives me hope!!!:rolleyes2:
  18. Yes, some surgeons will take the gallbladder out at the same time as the WLS is performed. But really, it is a conversation you should be having with your doctor.
  19. Very cool and exciting. Let's hope they utilize the energizer bunny batteries. I am sure the utilize the same batteries that are in a pace maker....right???:rolleyes2:
  20. Wow skinnymike that is awesome! You give me hope as I am over 100 pounds over weight. My surgery is on November 11 and I am staying calm and in my zone.
  21. Congrats ladybug. My surgery is on November 11 as well. Best wishes.
  22. Hi Denne: I have surgery next week and I am on the pre-op diet. I really keep my protien intake at a high level which helps me with me hunger and appetite control. I don't eat fruit. My doctor gave me two choices for the pre-op. Choice one includes high protien drinks three times a day with a fruit snack if needed. Or choice two which includes two high protien drinks and one high protien low fat meal.
  23. I think therapy is a great first start. My surgery is next week and I also scheduled a session with a therapist a week after my surgery. The way I see the more help the better for you and for me. Are there any activities you can do to keep yourseld occupied? How is your protien intake?
  24. I planned on not telling anyone, but did mention it to me sister, just in case something happened during the surgery. I want my sister to help my adult children should something happen. My brother is driving to the hospital for the surgery, but he does not know what the procedure is for. Other than my sis, no one else knows. My co-workers know I am going on vacation for two weeks, but they do not know what my vacation plans entail. I am taking FMLA for future follow up appointments, but HIPPA laws don't require that I reveal my medical issues. Thank goodness for HIPPA and FMLA.:smile2: My friends don't know and my parents don't know either. My surgery is on 11/11/2008.:tt1:
  25. I love the New Whey 42 gram Protein bullets. To me they taste great! Plus when I have two of those during the day, I am so not hungry. They fill me up and I don't get gas from them, like I do with the shakes. I also like the Ispure 40 gram drinks. My favorite flavors are grape, apple-mellon, and orange. They are filling as well. I get these products at GNC by the case.
