started liquid diet today

Hubby and I went to the surgeon yesterday. He has his surgery next Tuesday, Nov 16th. He started the liquid diet today. Tonight he is having a hard time - he is taking diet soda, crystal light, cottage cheese, canned peaches, 1/2 banana. I got him some slim fast drinks. Any other suggestions. He is starting to get a little nervous now.

Can't be of much help to you, as it seems that each Dr. has a different requirement pre-op. My doctor's office gave me a copy of a diet to follow and my particular diet includes no fruit, but any fruit juice! Call your surgeon to get more definite information, cause they should have something they can give you. Good luck!!

V8 makes some good cream soups... find them in the soup aisle, but they are in cartons... soup at hand has some good soups. My doc said I could have scrambled eggs, low fat cottage cheese, oatmeal, grits... so that's helping me some. Need to call your doc and see if he's allowed that. I find the v8 soups are very satisfying and of course oatmeal is very satisfying too. I'm on first day of liquid too... my surgery is Nov 18. good luck!

diet soda on preop? Wow...I quit soda back in february.

My doc says no diet drinks ever again... no carbonated drinks period... says it stretches your new stomach. Also says no caffeine... that it makes you crave food.

Yeah, I think i'll be ok since I can hava the scrambled eggs and the cottage cheese... and then liquid protein drinks to fill in... We can do this and just think how good we'll feel.

I try to keep the end result in mind. Some times are harder than others...........I will make it!! Good luck to you, I am sure even though you get some it must still be hard>
