  1. How has your recovery been? Sorry to be nosey, but my mom will be 65 this year. She is very close to having the gastric by-pass done. And I just worry about recovery. And welcome to LBT!
  2. Your welcome and good luck with your decision.:cursing:
  3. OMG, your killing me here! LOL:biggrin:
  4. Wow! Who cares what we have to say, what does your doctor say? This is very scary and I am sure your doctor would have seem feedback.
  5. Well it looks like you were banded January 2008, so you are not new. If you had a recent fill, this could be causing the issue. You might want to go to fluids for 24-hours. However, if fluids are giving you a problem, I would be calling the doctor.
  6. This is the point to be worried. Call your doctor.
  7. Thank you for the info! :cursing:
  8. Well, I was given another fill since my last post and I must say it is a new experience for. On January 28, I knew something was wrong with my January 10 fill, so I saw the doctor on 1/28/09 to determine what was occuring. The issue was, I could eat way to much for someone who just had a fill on January 10. So I lay on the table, while the doctor takes out the old fill to see what was left. And I am missing 1cc. 1cc happens to be the amount of fill I received on January 10. The nurse, doctor and I look at each other in confusion. Anyway, the doctor puts back the 1.cc and gives me another .5cc for good measure. So on January 28, I received 1.5cc in my band for a total of 5.5cc in a 10cc band. I must say that this fill is really like no other. I am very tight! Oh sure I keep fluids down and I do not get stuck. I don't slime or bps. But with this latest fill, I eat very very small portions and I eat every three hours. Where before, I would eat a larger portion, but ate every 5-6 hours. I am not sure what this is about. It is all new to me. But I am dropping weight like crazy and it has only been 1-week, since that fill. Anyway, I am monitoring the situation. I see the doctor again on March 4th and we are keeping track of cc loss. Thus far, cc loss has not been significant, but something to continue to watch.
  9. Since I have not conducted a longitudinal study to determine if there are issues, nor have I found research pertaining to this matter, I cannot state whether or not there really is an issue. Really, the person that I am concerned with the most regarding all things "Band" is me. I do care about other Band people and will offer advice, where I can, but really the only person that matters in my band journey is me. I can control me, but I cannot control others, thus why make others perceived failures my problem?
  10. Now she has a spokesperson she hired to spin her story. She will make money off this for sure.:cursing:
  11. Sorry, but I disagree with this statement. Just because a person is voicing a concern about what food they can have or not have after surgery is not cause to have doubt if someone is ready for surgery or not. On the contrary, I believe it shows rather great maturity by which the poster is reflecting on legitimate concerns regarding future choices. I had the same concerns. What will my life be if I have the band? What will I be giving up and what will I receive in return? Will I not be able to eat regular foods ever again??? Do I have to cook seperate meals for my family? Can I never participate in my work's pot luck? Will I always be the odd person out at social gatherings whipping out a Protein shake, while others consume "normal foods"? After careful research and discussion with my surgeon, I learned that there are no banned foods. I can consume, what I wish. Now, whether my band allows that are not is a story to be told. But currently, I have not had any food stuck issues. And although I can consume any type of food, it does not mean I do. I am cautious. I am new. I am learning. And thank-goodness my doctor and nutritionist supported me through my food concerns and allowed me to have the surgery.
  12. Welcome LBT! It sounds like your a good candidate for the procedure. But have you considered the long term life-style changes that come with any type of WLS? WLS are a tool. You can cheat around WLS procedures and never lose weight and/or gain weight. But Kaitlyn, if you play by the WLS rules, you will acquire a healthy life-style, filled with energy and confidence. WLS is not easy. It is hard work, but well worth it. Here is a link to the teen section. Teens - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum Good luck with your decision.
  13. Some people react to a tight fill immediately at a doctor's office, while others can have an unusual reaction one hour later or weeks later. Monitor your situation, if you are unable to drink fluids without feeling sick to the stomach then you need to call your doctor. If you keep fluids down with no problem, but start having problems with mushies or solids, then you need to call your doctor. Good luck!
  14. Yes, for the first time I have noticed that. I had my fourth fill last week and I am noticing a lot of variances with it of which is the top full bottom empty syndrome. This fill is causing me to lose weight like crazy, but I am eating every 3-hours, which includes very small portions. I will have a couple of ounces of yogurt and become full but yet hungry. Previous fills, made me feel full all over for at least 5-hours. I am monitoring the situation. I keep fluids and solids down, but it is just a weird feeling. I might have .5cc out on my Marc 4th visit with the doctor; just not sure yet.
  15. I don't believe soups will damage a band. It is the solids you need to stay away from when your in recovery mode and you are staying away from solids. Will your doctor allow you to have liquid Protein, so you can get full and be satisfied?
  16. How is your after care going? Are you seeing your doctor and getting fills when needed? How is your exercising coming along? You have the tool already. It's a matter of maximizing all the benefits of that tool towards your healthy life style. You have come this far by having the surgery, so don't give up and don't look back. Just move forward.
  17. Follow your doctor's instructions regarding food intake after you have surgery. I am presuming you have not had surgery yet. Every doctor has different post op diet instructions during the recovery/healing phase. I did two weeks liquids, one week mushies, and then gradually had solids. As far as what to eat after post op when you are allowed solids, you have to play it by ear. I can eat a variety of different foods and I don't get stuck. I have great restriction and eat very very small meals. I was not a big fan of fast food, so we don't do pizza or burgers, or such. We just have home cooked meals. So when I make these meals, I eat whatever the family eats, but it is a whole lot less. Good luck!
  18. When you get this urge go to your bathroom mirror, lift open your shirt and run your clean hands over your surgery scars, and tell yourself you just got banded and need time to heal. But whatever you do, don't test your band. It is not worth the risk!
  19. That's it, I am moving to Australia, where the weather is warm. Today: Day off from exercise. I found my old yoga DVD and think I might try it tomorrow.
  20. For a matter of convenience, and because I don't like to share my toys with strangers, I have a very nice treadmill that I utilize 5X a week any time of the day or night at my home. I have lots of videos and I am gearing up to utilize my yoga DVD, I just need to dust it off. I also have utilized Sparkpeople.com how to exercise videos. It's a free service. I have had great success, more so than when I at the gym. Really, home workout just fit better into my busy schedule. And it save me money.
  21. On occassion, I will have a glass a wine. Not that often, but I will if I feel like it. I sip it slowly and drink about 4 ounces. Talk about a light weight, but 4 ounces does me in.
  22. At first, right after surgery, I was told not to worry about calorie intake and nutrients. I was told to take my chewable Vitamins every day. The staff at the hospital gave me several little one ounce cups and told me to drink one at least every 15-minutes, and drink more if I could. I always drank more Fluid. I would not gulp it down, but I would sip it down. I could sip an ounce every couple of minutes, when I was awake. For the most part, I was drinking, Water, crystal light, and Isopure Protein drinks. The Isopure Protein Drinks are like a crystal light product, in that they come in fruit flavors, but have 40 grams of protein, and are a clear fluid. Meaning you can see through the product. So I never felt dehydrated, yes I did not get all my nutrients, but I survived and I am doing well. Just focus on the fluid intake during your recovery and you will do great!
  23. Yeah, I heard it was the parents and then they cancelled it.
  24. OMG how will you ever do that? I love supporting Girl Scouts, their programs rock! Those Cookies rock! I just have to be strong and not consume a whole box in one sitting like my pre-band days. I don't think I can physically eat a whole box now that I am banded, but ohhhh the temptation.
