  1. Here is one more link to check out: Compare Adjustable Gastric Bands - LAP-BAND vs. REALIZE Band
  2. It does feel awesome! Keep up the great work!
  3. Your best bet is to follow your doctor's orders. My doctor prefers us to drink right up to the point we start consuming food. She believes it makes a feel more full. Once we start consuming food, my doctor does not want us to drink for 1-hour. It is a hard rule, but I don't keep liquids near me when I am eating. I pay attention when I am eating, not distracted by tv, radio, phone, or computer.
  4. Well you could visit the Realize forum on this website at Realize Band Surgery (NEW!) - Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum or you can check out this thread http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f278/lap-band-vs-realize-band-65276/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f278/realize-vs-inamed-50722/ Good luck!
  5. Since your surgery was on 1/23/09 are you suppose to be eating already? Are you on liquids still or mushies? I would contact your doctor and seek their advice. I am sure they would want to know how you are feeling. Good luck!
  6. I work full-time plus I have a commute. I don't like mornings! So I exercise in the evening after I get off work. Perhaps you are starting off with too much exercise?? We all have to start somewhere, but usually we start off slower. Give yourself time to build up your strength so you can increase your workouts gradually. You will get there.
  7. I would review scientific medical journal articles rather than take information from the thread as actual data. JAMA has many free journal articles on their web site that you can review. Here is one link to such an article http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/reprint/292/14/1724.pdf If you cannot open the link then go to JAMA: JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, a weekly peer-reviewed medical journal published by AMA and use their search tool. Key in words such as bariatric WLS or bariatric banding. Good luck!
  8. I am so sorry this is happening to you. A second opinion is always good to consider when you have a health care crisis to manage. There are several thread on this forum, which pertain to LapBand complications and removal. Below are the links, which might help you find more information. Good luck! 9. Too funny! I do not think about the band inside me. I do have a high-profile port, that at this point I don't go feeling around for. I cannot feel my installed equipment when I am moving or jogging. However, I know it is there when I get my fill. And I know it is there when I have restriction. Good luck on your journey!
  10. I was instructed not to lift anything over 10-pounds for several weeks. I stayed home for 2-weeks and really felt great on day 7-post op, but was glad to have more time off to recover fully. I have a stationary desk job.
  11. Mary: There are different ways a doctor can qualify a patient for the surgery. 1. The patient has a BMI of 40 or higher or 2. The patient has a BMI between 35-40, with medical issues. Every insurance plan is different and is based on what your employer purchased for its employees. Some employers don't cover WLS via the insurance plan, while other employers allow WLS. You will not know what to do next until you know what your employer insurance plan covers. Call the insurance company and make an inquiry. If they cover WLS or if they do not, ask for the policy in writing. Good luck!
  12. I have a vitamin regiment of pills that I consume throughout the day, which are in pill form. Plus, I have three prescriptions I am currently on. I do not try to take all these pills at once. I have not had any problems with swallowing pills as long as I space them out.
  13. Jachut, you go girl! Just reading about the 6mp at 5% makes me sore. Great job!
  14. Nancy, great day to be banded; Luck of the Irish to you and of course Gods speed for safe and healthy recovery.
  15. Kimme, be patient with yourself and the process. Give your body time to heal. And try really hard to get all your fluids in. Good luck!
  16. Are you sure you are suppose to have Protein shakes during the post-op liquid diet? Just double checking. :cheated: Perhaps your doctor allows that. During the clear liquid phase, I could have just that; anything I could see clear through. So my doctor allowed Isopure Protein drinks, which are clear liquid. Good luck!
  17. During the liquid post-op diet phase, I drank NewWhey Bullets and Isopure, which my doctor said was okay for me. Now, I eat meat and cheese, my to faves. Plus, I have other stuff, like chilli, eggs, milk, and Isopure and/or NewWhey bullets. I exercise like crazy, so I make sure to get over 100 grams in a day.
  18. All your questions are dependant upon your insurance requirements and bariatric doctor's requirement. Every one's requirements differ. For me the process was as follows: After my first orientation seminar, my bariatric doctor required I attend to classes. The first class was nutrition/exercise. The second class was to attend a post-op support group to here about what happens. My first seminar I believe was the end of August and surgery was in November. Pre-op requirements were a 6-month supervised diet, psych exam, Upper GI, Blood work, H-pylori test, EKG and EKG. Good luck!
  19. Welcome to another round of monthly exercise. Today: 60 minutes treadmill 4% incline 3-miles just walking today. No jogging.:tongue2:
  20. I was allowed to have decaf products during the post liquid diet phase. However, you should follow your doctor's instructions for you. I am 2.5 months out from surgery and now drink caffeine coffee every morning. Does my doctor want me to, no she preferred I did not. Her reason for not wanting patients to drink coffee is that it stimulates hunger. In my case, it does not stimulate hunger. I have not seen any scientific reports that can substantiate definitely whether caffeine products stimulate hunger or not. Coffee is my vice and I shall not give it up. Besides, you really don't want to be around me in the morning until I had coffee.
  21. I would ask to be totally unfilled. I am not sure how they repair a slipped band. But you can use the search tool bar at the top of the web site and place key words like Band Slip and you will be connected to all the threads that discuss this topic. Sorry you are having this problem. Good luck!
  22. Sounds to me like your right on track. Losing two pounds a week is average and thank-goodness you are not gaining weight. Your doing a great job. When you get your first fill you might have some restriction or you might not; everyone is different with their fills. Just be patient with yourself. You will get there. Remember it is a journey to goal not a mad rush. Besides you are exercising and playing by the Band Rules, you will do great! Take care and be kind to yourself, your body is still in recovery mode.:tongue2:
  23. Go on liquids for a day or two, so your pouch can recover. Right now it sounds like it is spasming. P.S. I eat rice now and then without issue. Some people can eat rice, but it appears that it is difficult for you. I would consider not having this food for a month, since you reaction was not good. As far as band slippage, that is a conversation for you and your doctor. Good luck!
  24. Hello, if you go to Sparkpeople.com which is a free service, you can utilize their collection of upper body videos. These free videos show you how to properly work on your upper body with weights and show you exactly the area that you are toning up. I use it all the time. Plus, if you are into tracking calories and exercise for free then this web site does that too.
  25. She is selfish, just simple as that. She should have donated them, because she cannot afford the 6 children she already has.
