Protein Drink Suggestions
I just ordered some samples from Unjury. What do you think? I can't wait to try them.

Protein Drinks
OK, out of the three brands dh and I tried, we liked the EAS best. My SIL found them at Sam's Club for about $27 for 24 cans I think so that does't sound like a bad deal. I figure if I pre-buy some of the things I consider "necessary" prior to surgery, the financial impact won't be so bad. So far, I am paying $217 up front...who knows what the final bill will be (although I am VERY blessed that insurance covers it). I am worried about one Army son today. He is married and we heard "through the grapevine" that his pregnant wife may have left him (he is 2500 miles away). We have tried to call him all weekend and immediately get voice mail. Adult children--sigh.

Starting Tomorrow
Just think how much better you'll feel!!!! (so hubby is LETTING you "make" him? what a guy!) I'm going to self-impose a diet myself soon too. One of my goals is to either eliminate caffeine or greatly reduce how much I take in.

Are you keeping your lap band a secret, or telling everybody?
So far, I've told dh, my mom, and my supervisor (to get time off approved). Two other people know who have had the surgery. I am debating telling my teen daughters. Dh doesn't think I should...that they won't understand that I've worked for this "tool". I'm still undecided. ~~anne

High Protein Dessert
Probably a silly question: where do you find Greek yogurt? I looked at my local supermarket and didn't see it. Thanks in advance, Anne

Am I being mean and rude?
That's wonderful! You probably just came off abrasively and out of the blue when you spoke about it the first time. She's had time to think now. Still...be gentle and don't chastise if screw ups happen. You wouldn't want that for you. Hugs, Anne

the biggest loser show
I would love to know what the first show as about as we had HURRICANE damage in INDIANA and lost power from Sunday through Wednesday night! That is one of the few shows I try not to miss (TiVo). For me, it is motivating to watch. I think a personal trainer is a great idea if you can afford one...or my YMCA does a free 12-week program with a trainer for a new membership. ~~anne

"shopping in my attic"
It still takes willpower!!!! That's funny that you posted this topic...tomorrow I'm going through my closets and pull out clothes and sort by size to put in storage boxes! I am excited about doing it instead of depressed because I can't wear those clothes anymore . ~~anne

Getting ready!
I've ordered a sample pack of Unjury and a new scale! I've also been sampling protein drinks. So far, the Atkins tasted "watery" but the EAS carb advantage was pretty good and filling. I'm so excited!

Wii Fit?
I found Wii Fit on ebay and have it set back for after my surgery (Oct. 22nd). I am also debating waiting until Christmas for a "family" gift. I've heard great things about it! Hope you get your approval soon! ~~anne

Am I being mean and rude?
Oh yes you are. Fortunately, she's forgiven you. As you begin to lose weight, hopefully, you will spend more time playing with the kids and helping out with them. This will give her more time for herself and possibly energize her to be more active too. I would suggest that at some point you start encouraging activities the family can participate in...without forcing your wife to join you. Also, cook in a healthy way for the family. If you don't already share in the cooking...start (take a class if you need to...or a couples class if you can find one!). Many diabetic centers or hospitals will offer healthy cooking classes. Enjoy your experience...but don't throw it in her face. I have not yet been banded--Oct. 22nd--my dh is over 100 lbs overweight too and I feel he will benefit from MY experience. I have four kids and we've been married for 23 years (married at 17). I was NOT overweight until my marriage and tried to keep up with my dh who was an athlete at the time. Now he is rarely active but we both still overeat. ~~anne

I have a date!
I have a date! October 22nd! Insurance has approved it...and now the countdown begins . I still have no new news about my job situation. I wish that didn't have to change. Our area is recovering from hurricane strength winds on Sunday that devastated the community. We were fortunate as we only had roof damage and lost food from our fridge/freezer. We were without power, any type of phone service, and obviously internet for four days. The damage was amazing as the winds snapped light poles in two and huge tree trunks. Some big trees were lifted out of the ground and ended up on top of houses or completely twisted in electric wires. We have power back...but many in our area still don't. Fortunately, the weather has been lovely.

October 22nd!
I received insurance authorization paperwork on Saturday in the mail...and then our area had the "wind" from Hurricane Ike...and knocked out our power, landline phone, and cell phone until yesterday. Sadly, it also knocked out the bariatric center because I tried to take it there on Monday to try to schedule something! (can you tell I'm anxious?) The earliest date I could work out is October 22nd...but I am SO looking forward to it! My husband is very supportive. I've told my mother and two co-workers who have been banded...but that's it so far. I have teen daughters that I am hesitating telling...but we'll see. If the time seems right I will. I love the idea of being part of a group who will go through similar things/emotions at the same time. ~~anne Indiana

flying after surgery??
Probably a question for those who had the band done in Mexico, how soon did you fly? I just received approval and thought I might combine surgery recovery time with a quick vacation. Thanks, Anne

Taking medications with Lap Band
Oooh...good question. I will have the same problem. SOME meds have a liquid available so check with your pharmacist about that idea. ~~anne

Line of pureed meals for Lap-Band patients
So hang in there and wait to see what your surgeon comes up with! :cursing: Ahhh...but what you don't know about me is that I want to know everything NOW...I hate unanswered questions ...my curse in life! Thanks ya'll.

Line of pureed meals for Lap-Band patients
I would bet that pureed corn and celery would be okay. Does anyone know for sure? I'm still praying I get banded and trying to figure all this out. ~~anne

Military Mom has a question...
I'm sorry. I can't imagine how bad the PTSD is for these guys who have seen and experienced so much.

best scale?
Thanks everyone. I just really want a scale that you don't have to step on five times and do a 3/5 analysis. I don't need any bonus features. ~~anne

what are they looking for with a colonoscopy?
Hi! I don't think my doctor requires it, but does anyone know what they are looking for when they do a colonoscopy? I understand the upper-GI. Thanks, Anne

Anxious about job changes
I am still waiting to hear from insurance and now my job is going to change in some capacity which may or may not send me out job hunting. Today, I am meeting with the CFO of the healthcare organization that I work for as a nurse. I am praying that the upper management DOES see the reality of what they are trying to do. For 2 1/2 years, I have been on-call at night 40 hours a week for a certain salary and now they want to raise that to 55 hours a week for the same salary. Their justification is that I don't "work" all those hours. My argument is that is what they offered originally and that I have to make a commitment TO work those hours if needed away from my family. I wouldn't want to do it even if offered MORE money. They are eliminating five positions and creating four that we must interview for. Physically, I don't think I CAN work it as it would require TWO 16 hour shifts a week in addition to three 8 hour shifts. Maybe post-band but not now (there are some nights that I am busy all night). One of the bosses suggested a compromise of a 48 hour week (four 12 hour shifts) which I think would work for me but the organization seems like they won't allow. If I need to leave my job, not only will I have increased stress from interviewing and changing, but I will also forfeit my sick time which I was counting on for when I, hopefully, get banded. Sigh.
