Long term issues
Oh good. That helps make me feel better. I read a couple of things where people said they had issues with like bladder infections that wouldn’t go away and blamed it on the absorbtion of the meds. It scared me a little.

Introducing the BariatricPal Prenatal & Postnatal Bariatric Multivitamin with Mint Tab Insert
This is awsome. If you haven’t figured out your next project one for DS and SADI would be helpful. And the mint insert sounds good for all of them. Lol

My primary doctor has me MAD!! Think it's time for a new one...
I would ask her what specifically does she think will improve if you lose weight but I am pretty confident she wouldn’t be able to come up With one thing. . She sounds like one of those people that does cookie cutter medicine and it’s better ypu find that out now then when you have an issue that is outside of the box because we are all unique And she obviously doesn’t see you that way.

Dr is great but his team is Not.
I got my husbands attention when I told him that between the two extra appointment and the two fruitless nutritionist appts that I have wasted about $300 because of his teams lack of knowledge of this procedure. I didn’t even mention my time and frustration. But I am most concerned with figuring out a way to feel comfortable being at their mercy when I am most vulnerable post op. Hopefully I get that when I meet with the NP.

Dr is great but his team is Not.
Honestly my biggest fear is if it is this hard getting the most basic info what is gonna happen if I have an issue post up. I will not be feeling up to, nor have the time to deal with this run around. I am going to ask the NP when I meet her but I feel like if only the dr knows then I should be dealing with only the dr. I am never really a blunt or confrontational person but I am gonna tell the NP about my experience thus far so she will she why I feel like even if the dr is ready to do this procedure that the staff is not. And that would not even be an issue if they could just admit when they are in over their head and just ask him but they don’t. I want her to know that this scares me.

What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.
Cool. Looks yummy. Thanks.

Dr is great but his team is Not.
I am talking about the two day liquid diet. And thats what the nutritionist said about the red looking like blood but in the book that the surgeons office gave me it lists all those usually red items like jello, popsicles and crystal light. Then the night before (doesn’t say what time) it says to switch to clear liquids. BUT when I called to clarify she basically described the clear one and said for the SADI that is for two days. I said well then I think I have the wrong book then, should I go there and get the other one. She said no thats the right book you just aren’t supposed to have all that. Well how in the heck am I supposed to know that? And what would happen if I wasn’t the type of person to ask? It just amazes me how lax they can be with this stuff. When it can easily be life or death if the surgeon thinks you did one thing when you were told to do another. They need to get it together. Anyways. I have an appointment with the NP now before the surgery so I will get the answer but it’s still frustrating to waste my time and money because of their incompetence. And I don’t mean incompetence like they are ignorant. I’ realize That the issue is that it’s a new surgery and I understand if they don’t know. What I am not okay with is them just making it up as they go along when it is my life we are taking about. Admitting when you don’t know something and then finding the answer is the real sign of competence.

I have found my saving grace!!
I’ve never had anything chai so I don’t even know what to mix that with. Is it supposed to be like a coffee sweetener? I’ve heard of chai latte. lol

That cake sounds interesting. You should share it here or in the recipe thread. I have seen tortillas made with cottage cheese and cheddar cheese but never bread.

Sans the mushroom this sounds delish. I will definitely try it. Thanks.

Dr is great but his team is Not.
I am having the SADI and I don’t know if that’s the reason for my issues (because this is kinda new) or if everyone gets this type of runaround. I have some questions about what vitamin I should be taking and the post op diet that neither of the TWO differnt nutritionist I paid for could answer for me and I questioned what one told me about the pre op diet. I figured I could just ask the dr at my post op about the vitamins but realized that I am scheduled to see the PA. Well, I met said PA already and I didn’t like him. He clearly knows ALOT about bariatric surgery, just not the SADI specifically . I had a whole list of questions and everytime I asked one he skirted it and talked about the other surgeries in general. Basically he said a whole lot or words and answered a whole lot of nothing. Well thankfully the Dr did not make me feel rushed at all and he answered every one of them on my next visit so that worked out fine but I do not want my follow up with that PA.. I called and asked his office if I could change it to the dr and they would not go for that but did claim that the NP actually knows a lot more about the Sadi so they changed my follow up appointments to her. Fingers crossed they weren’t just saying that. Then I asked about the pre op diet and what the nutritionist said which was that for the two day liquid diet I was not to have anything red or purple. The receptionist says you shouldn’t be having anything that comes in red or purple anyways. I said um…jello, popsicles, diet drinks such as crystal light and gator aide??? She says well you aren’t supposed to have any of that for the Sadi pre op. I said well then I must have the wrong book or something because I’m reading it from what you gave me And it lists all that as well as fudge sickles and yogurt. She puts me on hold then tells me I should just come in and talk to the NP before my surgery since I have so many questions. I said I feel like because this is new everyone is your office knows that the procedures is different yet all of the information you are giving me is generic for the other two more common surgeries and I am supposed to just magically know somehow what to do differently. She says well it is the correct information you just aren’t supposed to have this and this and this. I bit my tongue. I said you know I’m am really not trying to be difficult. I Just need to get the correct information. I know that this is routine for you but this is my body and it’s major surgery. I’m anxious enough without having to cross my fingers that I’m doing my part correctly and don’t do something that is going to jeopardize my life or my surgery just because someone handed me the wrong paper and told me the wrong things to do. My god It’s just so blooming irritating that I should have to go through all this, waste my time, money and frustration just because they don’t know. If they don’t know an answer just say that. And get back to me after they learn it. It’s that simple. Don’t try to fake your way through it and give me the wrong directions rather than just admit they don’t know. Idk if I’m just getting old when I feel like it’s a generational thing that they feel like if they are just confident enough that it will be okay even if they are wrong. Then again I’ve seen this in all ages. It’s okay to admit when you don’t know!! It’s the medical field And little mistakes can cost lives. So far I have paid two incompetent nutritionist and i am having to go for two extra office visits just because they don’t know the information the first time. But even worse what if I didn’t ask and did the wrong pre op. Okay Rant over. ?

What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.
The finger food plate is a great idea. I love those foods. Idk why I don’t think of them outside of an appetizer for a get together. I had to google auberfines. I know them as eggplant. I have had them at restaurants and annoyed them but always shy away because I’m intimidated by preparing rhem. I guess I need to do some research because that sounds like a good alternative to zucchini lasagna. I have never thought of putting beans into an omelette. It’s sounds different but I will give anything a try once. Thanks for the book suggestion. I should check and see what’s free on kindle unlimited as well. Idk why a whole book of recipes is overwhelming for me but when I come across one thing that sounds good I have the guts To try it. I’m an odd duck sometimes. lol.

Anyone Annoyed with the "Stop losing weight"
Well you really do have to lot your calories if you have not done that (and measure things- don’t just eyeball it (because you would be surprised how little the portions look that we actually need after years of feeding an obese body and don’t go by what others think because they are used to seeing you eat so much more so it’s just as much of an adjustment for them as it is for you BUT, if you have tied all that, don’t just give uP, you’ve still got options

@Singingbarista lots Of people lurk here for a while before they post. Congrats on your decision to do surgery. The local support groups are great too. I keep saying I’m going to get started back but life always gives me an excuse. Post op no more excuses for me though. Have you found any good recipes or shakes you can recommend? I am an anxious person so I totally get the over preparing as a coping mechanism. As long as you aren’t creating a financial hardship you’re not hurting anyone (thatS what I tell myself). As far as craft suggestions go I love to crochet. It’s easy to pick up the basics and you can make things with only knowing the most basic stitch then learn a ones whenever your heart desires. It can be a cheap hobby if you shop the sales and don’t become what we refer to as yarn snob. I actually started it because the mindless counting of stitches is very meditative And helps With anxiety. I have brought my crochet with me for many big tests and procedures. Most libraries have groups that meet weekly too so you get to meet other people that knit and crochet. You can usually find crochet hooks at thrift store even and the red heart yarn at Walmart is good enough to get you started.check out some you tube videos Or your libraries website to see when the next class is if you are interested

Hello @BigDane looks like we Will be pretty much be going through the stages together. How is the preop diet going? I was told by the nurse that since he didn’t mention a preop diet I just needed to do a two day liquid diet but last time he had me do a week long liver shrink diet first. I’m just going to do that to be safe. The smaller the liver is the safer the surgery is with the added bonus it’s less weight to lose after.

@LadyJGrey Awesome plan to start the walking and the food logging now. They have a few apps to help with that if you aren’t aware. I like Baritastic. It’s free and pretty user friendly. Good luck with the quitting smoking. Everyone is differnt but my trick was to NOT throw out my cigarettes. I actually carried a full pack around everywhere I went with a lighter taped to the top to remind me that I didn’t want to smoke them. The worst thing to me when your craving something is to think of the craving getting worse And becoming unbearable (and knowing we have to go to the store to buy some still make that even more scary) but we give in too soon to avoid the fear of it possibly getting to that absolute worse. We are stronger than we think. I told myself that I could always wait a little while longer because they were right there if it got so bad that I couldn’t take it . Surprisingly feeling like I had them right there whenever I wanted gave me the choice which was such a sense of control that it made me realize that I was so much stronger than I gave myself credit for. Everyone is differnt but it worked for me. I’m rooting for you.

@Averdra the bariatric therapist thing is an excellent idea. Many people on here swear by them. For most people the eating and not drinking is a pretty easy lesson to learn because most people vomit if they don’t follow that rule. I was the exception who got pretty lax about that over the years so I am mindful of that as well. A tip for easily getting in uour protein once your past the phase eating stages is to cook a couple chicken breasts or cuts of fish, whatever protein and keep in fridge . Then make them into differnt things each night or just prepare several of the same meal and freeze leftovers. When it comes to variety, perhaps you can give me some tips. And to increase water try varying the temp of fluids. Warm, not hot tea and broth go down easier for some people with the added bonus that they tend to make most people feel more full. Some people even find that they prefer room temp liquids post surgery. Then there are of course flavor enhancers as a last resort (the artificial sweeteners aren’t ideal so if you can avoid them by all mean do) but they are very tasty and they are making new ones everyday. Just google sugar free drink and you will see plenty that look good. Also remember that ALL fluids count towards you goal to include soups, jello, popsicles and even yogurt if i remember correctly.

Ps. Ignore my ticket for now. I need to drag out passwords and all that to use my computer to update all that. The weight is correct but obviously I am preop and my goal weight that by Dr had for me before and now is 150’ I just put 180’ at my therapists suggestion because it was a more achievable goal I thought I could reach more easily and still be happy. Turns out I wasn’t happy enough but a story for another time.

August Surgery buddies
Hello everyone. I had gastric sleeve 3.5 years ago and I am pending revision to a SADI on August 7th. I am doing quite a bit more research this time and I’m a great deal more nervous this time. I think that’s in part due to the complexity of the surgery and its risks but more so due to the fact that I am taking this a lot more seriously this time. Hopefully that makes the difference. As a second timer the best piece of advice is to keep posting here. When I started to regain I was so embarrassed that I stopped posting here and going to love support group meetings. You can see where that got me, lol. When I finally went back to my dr he said that the sleeve is a very good surgery for a lot of people but obesity is complex and some people just need an even bigger metabolic change to be successful. So here’s to hoping that the second time is a charm.

Anyone Annoyed with the "Stop losing weight"
That’s exactly how I felt. I got down close to my doctors goal for me (18’ppunds shy) stalled there for about three months and then the hunger came back and I started to gain. If you haven’t spoken to your surgeon yet, definitely do that. They have some weight loss meds you may want to try (I couldn’t take because of other meds I’m on) and also the GLP-1 that some people are having a lot of success with (my insurance doesn’t cover but some do now). Plus there is the option of revision if/when you are ready. I am learning that it’s not super uncommon for people to have to revise the sleeve. Don’t quote me but it seems like it was 26%! Of people need revision within 3’years. Dom‘t personalize it like I did. I felt like I was such a failure that I stopped going to my follow up appointments and gained it all plus some. Hopefully they can help you before it comes to that.

Modified Duodenal Switch
Omg, that’s hilarious. I never really thought about it that way, Thank you!! Sometimes I get a little over concerned about things. I have to teeter the fine line between being too lax and worrying excessively which is hard to do with an anxiety disorder. I do plan to take both bottles with me on surgery day and ask him if I actually see him and not the PA before I leave. If not I will ask him eventually. They don’t make that higher iron one in chewable anyways so I have at least a month post surgery before I need to decide, I just wanted to get the opinions of the people who actually lived it. Does the oral iron just make you sick or not absorb or what? Is it related to surgery or something else?

Cocoa powder?
I would say it depends on how soft and how moist the brownies turn out. I suppose you could always dunk them in some milk for a few seconds to let a little absorb to soften it in terms of texture similar ti adding a gravy to a drier meat. I would probably start with a bite or two and then wait just because that’s a few ingredients that I’m guessing you’ve never had. I’m not sure about cornstarch or monkfruit (though I’ve never heard anyone complain about them) I was just told to introduce new food one at a time so that if you do have issues you know exactly what it was.
