  1. I didn’t gain any weight while in the hospital. But then again I was clearly not overly hydrated as most people are because I had to go back and get fluids. My clinic did tell me not to weigh myself for the first two weeks though and I think that was probably because of fluid and inflammation causing weight gain.
  2. I haven’t dealt with this yet but I think I would probably politely tell them that I appreciate their concern for me but am working with a doctor and nutritionist so there is no need for them to worry about my health. If they continue to push after that id probably say something along the lines of I think I will get my medical advice from the experts.
  3. I use my weight at the start of the preop diet. Which was also my highest weight so it’s kinda an easy one for me.
  4. You won’t find it at the grocery store. You have to go to a tea shop. The good news is you can probably buy just a little bit to try or try it there.
  5. I can’t believe you are still dealing with this. At least you found that warm beverages help. When you said tea you made me think of oolong tea (I think that was the name) it’s a tea that I tried for weight loss. Supposed to be an appetite suppressant. Maybe that would help?? I did lose weight on it. I just gained it back like everything else pre surgery.
  6. My wait was about 5 months. My insurance required six visits of supervised weight loss but I had already satisfied one of these visits.
  7. Just scroll down on the screen you are reading right now as you read this. WAY down, past where it says trending products, recent products, hot topics, etc and keep scrolling to where it says together we have lost…
  8. I wouldn’t stop there. At your next appointment I would let the team know so they can stop recommending that person. This is all confusing enough without being told to listen to someone who is handing out a once size fits all approach.
  9. It’s interesting to hear what people say on this. My nutritionist said to go by volume which was difficult with many foods. Like how do you squish a taco or pizza down into a cup (fresco tacos and cauliflower pizza). But does the weight of it give you much either? I have recently been going by serving size. At 7 months out I can eat almost a serving it seems of most things. I said this to the NP yesterday in fact and she said that is fine. I can eat a little more than some people at my stage but she said as long as it’s nutritious food that’s okay cause most people eventually get to one serving. I am not eating past restriction nor do I have a bigger pouch, I am just chewing it to where it goes through more efficiently she says. I still think my pouch has always been bigger but what do I know. Anyways, glad to know I was not the only one confused by the weight vs volume thing.
  10. Did you find the recipe online? Do you have a link?? It looks delicious.
  11. My fingers are crossed as well tbat it goes your way. If it does jim get pushed out though try to think of it as a chance to practice some of your post op behaviors beforehand. Many people on here have had to wait longer than they hoped and took the opportunity to lose a little weight and better prepare for post surgery. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Still crossing them that it’s sooner than later though.
  12. Does anyone know a good bariatric therapist anywhere in florida who may be willing to do telehealth appointments? I found one person so far and after two appointments I don’t feel like she is the right fit for me. Apparently they are few and far between in my area but I’m thinking post COVID maybe telehealth will work (someone said they have to be in the same state to bill insurance).
  13. I’m 7 months out and I can drink like I did pre surgery. Have been for a while now.
  14. I noticed my stomach growls when my food is digesting and it’s not because I am hungry just digesting but it’s the same as when I was hungry pre op. Maybe it’s just that?? And I mean growls like a lot and loudly.
  15. I was asked if I wanted coffee in the hospital as well. And I have been drinking the caffe latte shakes (which have caffeine) every morning ever since like one week post op.
  16. Well I have my appointment tomorrow and I got labs last week so I guess we will see if my iron is low. I have been on this vitamin for two months and I’ve been taking it with my protein shake every morning. Oops. Before that I was fine but I was taking a two a day so I got the iron from the evening one I bet.
  17. I never thought of the calcium in the shake but I can’t remember if it’s iron that doesn’t absorb because of calcium or calcium that doesn’t absorb because of iron. I know I get plenty of calcium outside of the shake but I just looked and my Protein shake does have calcium in it I need to look further into this so glad you pointed it out
  18. I would ask the surgeon about what’s best to take. There is no reason for you to go into surgery all worried about anything. Not when there are meds to help.
  19. I don’t use a cpap but I do recall that being on the list of things to bring to hospital.
  20. Eating at a set time helps. I eat at 6, 12 and 6 with snacks at 9 and 3. This means I am eating something every three hours (protein shake counts as eating here). In the beginning I set alarms to remind me to eat.
  21. For what it’s worth I stuck to my liver shrink diet 100% and my dr commented on what a good job I did to both my husband and then myself when I woke up. I had very little pain afterwards and like to think that it’s partially because my liver was shrunken down so much and out of the way that the surgery was a little easier and caused less bruising and stuff. Possibly just coincidence but I like to think my hard work was worth it. Your already past the hardest part (first couple days) you’ve got this.
  22. I second what jayew said. I do not have children (just super spoiled nieces and nephews) but I have a very easy recovery. I was tired and took lots of naps. After day two that was the only reason I even felt like I had surgery was that I napped a lot. There are lots of people who would probably say the same on here we just don’t feel the need to post about it because we don’t need any help. The people who have a tough time of it are the ones who of course need some help so you hear more from them. Fingers crossed you will have an easy recovery too.
  23. It is humanly impossible to be gaining weight on 400-450 calories. Just stick to the plan and the downward trend will pick up.
  24. I remember the feeling wanting to do everything I could to prepare but I wouldn’t stock up too much. Post op many people have taste changes especially with sweet things like the protein shakes. (I had to give away two- 12 packs because I didn’t like them post op and hubby didn’t either). Anyways, Amazon has a variety pack of the premier protein that would be good to sample shakes post op. Maybe some other brands sell variety packs as well. I wish I had just stuck to those. Then you can just have shakes delivered in whatever flavor you can tolerate.
  25. I ate a lot of ricotta bake and retried beans as well as chicken, egg and tuna salad. Mostly the ricotta bake though.
