Looking at June surgery - I hope
I agree that six weeks would be very hard to sustain if it is all liquid or very strict. Mine was not super strict. I was allowed egg whites and meat as well as low starch veggies plus yogurt and sugar free popsicles or jello. I was also allowed free foods like lettuce and pickles. There were a few other free foods but I can only remember making a lot of pickle salads. lol. Those foods were limited quantities too so I was hungry for those pickle salads. You may be able to handle doing something like that for 6 weeks if you wanted to?? It’s basically just low carb which most of have done but with stricter portion sizes than I had ever done.

How to tell when you’re near full
I was able to eat more than expected at every given stage. I never felt full unless I ate a lot more than my plan prescribed. I had to measure out how much I was expected to eat and just stop there. It took a while to get used to that but eventually I realized i would feel satisfied after a few minutes.

Help with nausea?
Do you have any other signs of dehydration such as dark urine? If so, getting IV fluids may help with the nausea quite a bit. I thought this was going to be a big deal and I would wind up back in the hospital but when I spoke to my team they arranged for me to get fluids as an out patient It was no big deal at all and I felt tons better afterwards.

Is this normal/right?
I know it seems like it would be a standard easy answer but the rule of thumb is to ask your team because so many places have so many different plans. I would try to work out the protein for the soups and see if you are close to your teams goal (your yogurt should have quite a bit too, especially if it’s Greek yogurt). If not and you don’t want to do protein shakes you could always add plain protein powder to your soups. I haven’t done it but I have read on here that there is a trick to it. The soup can’t be too hot when you mix it in I think.

Went on vacation for a week, first time since surgery - and I LOST weight!
Good for you. I would have considered no gain a huge win and losing a little is just a bonus.

Can you ever drink soda again after surgery
That makes a lot of sense.

Revision without a high enough bmi now
Well at least you have a plan. Lol

Ball of nerves
Yes there is a whole forum for revision surgeries and sleeve to bypass seems to be mentioned on here quite often because of GERD. It’s a pretty common procedure.

Revision without a high enough bmi now
Wow. That sucks. It’s sad that any insurance wouldn’t cover it and there are so many hoops with the ones that do.

Thinking of backing out
Short term post op some people experience mood swings and depression and/ or anxiety due to the hormones being out of whack from major surgery and the accelerated weight loss. But long term I think if people have issues it’s more because of meds not working as well. My dr suggested sleeve over bypass because of the medicine absorption issue that is possible with bypass but far less common with sleeve. I just kept reminding myself that LESS absorption did not mean NO absorption so maybe I would have to take a higher milligram of certain meds to get the right amount to absorb but they should still work. Or maybe I would have to try another medication but there are so many out there that something should work. There are some meds such as extended release meds that tend to cause The most issues for people. Some people are fine with them but others have to take the immediate release version twice a day. So my takeaway was Basically as long as you work closely with your doctor they should be able to make adjustments to your medication to find something that can work for you. I had one medication that you have to eat 350 calories at the time you take it so I had to switch to another Medication but other than that I have not had any issues with medications post sleeve. I have bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder and I totally get what you are saying. I was a little bit nervous the whole time but I just kept reminding myself that I went with the surgery the dr suggested and I am very compliant with my meds and responsible to go to the doctor and ask for help if I need it and there are so many meds out there that IF I had issues they would only be temporary.

Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay
They have the good drugs there so if you had hernia repair it’s probably better to be there anyways. I hear that is quite a bit more painful. Glad to hear you are on the other side and doing okay.

Revision without a high enough bmi now
I would just go see the surgeon and see what They say. For revision if it’s medically necessary your BMI shouldn’t matter. For instance if you haD sleeve and develop untreatable GERD they wouldn’t care what your BMI was to revise to bypass. I am not sure but band intolerance may make it medically necessary.

Swimming post op
I believe it was around a month for me. But best to follow your surgeon.

Can you ever drink soda again after surgery
My team said medically I can but they strongly advise against it. This is because there is a correlation between soda and weight gain (even diet soda). It hasn’t been explained yet but the correlation still exists and shows up study after study.

Food ideas
That looks delicious. Your photo reminded me of the “food before and after” thread where we can get some more ideas of what people are eating. I am more of a simple cook that likes five ingredients or less kind of recipes for everyday cooking. Anything with more than five ingredients is a special meal at our house, lol.

Newbie Here! :) SEEKING ADVICE
I think that the most important piece of advice I can give is to not compare yourself to others. Your journey will be very unique. You will lose weight at your own rate which may be faster or slower than others for a million reasons and how much weight you lose will be different as well. Just trust The process because this truly works.

How to respond when people comment on your appearance after surgery?
I have found that most people are satisfied to hear you are working with a nutritionist and exercising more. It is the truth. I mean It’s those two things that are mainly why your losing weight. It’s just easier to do those things without the hunger hormones screaming at you.

Food ideas
I don’t have any suggestions because I am the opposite of you. I don’t really like to cook but I’m getting board with the handful of things I do make so I’d love to hear everyone’s suggestions as well. The one thing I swear by of you haven’t heard of it yet is for the purée phase. It’s the ricotta bake.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)
It’s good that your able to do the protein waters as a “snack” of sort or whatever you want to call it to tide you over. Protein really does fill you up. I am over a year out and I still drink a caffe latte protein shake with caffeine for breakfast Daily and I am full till lunch. I obviously don’t have to at this point and would not if I was feeling hungry.
-
Full Liquids?!
My team didn’t have any limits on carbs or anything that early out. I strained cream of chicken soup after diluting it with milk or water and that was okay but you can buy prepared soups anywhere and strain any “chunks” out of them.

Surgery next week
Welcome and congratulations on your surgery date. Just remember during clear liquids that it’s a means to an end and Keep your eye on the prize. You’ve got this.

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)
Yep this diet was the hardest part of the process for me and I was even allowed some food. Just have to keep reminding yourself to keep your eye on the prize And take it one day at a time.

Over night stay at hospital. Yay or nay
I would ask the anesthesiologist about that. They may just need to know beforehand but it could also be a no no.
-
Kept it Quiet?
I only told my husband and best friend. Since I lost some weight I have told my mom and a couple others but for people I don’t feel that close to I just answer questions about weight loss with the diet and exercise response which is mostly true.
