  1. The better you do on that diet the better off you will be in the long run. If your liver is much smaller and out of the way there is less to maneuver around which means less probing and bruising so less pain post op. That being said I have heard people on here who have messed up a little bit and as far as I know they were okay.
  2. I did not but I was a lower BMI to start and was worried I would lose Just enough to not qualify for surgery and then gain it all back like I always do. Many people do though. Anything you lose now is just less you have to lose later. Plus it is a good chance to start practicing what you will be doing post surgery.
  3. You can do this. It’s seriously a mind thing. I am over a year out and I have protein shakes as meal supplements on occasion. For breakfast I have one daily and it actually does fill me up till lunch or I wouldn’t do it. Are you allowed popsicles. Those and jello were what made me feel like I was getting something.
  4. I second speaking to your nutritionist. I assume you will have to pay since it’s been a while but it should be worth it. I would log what you have been eating for a week or two first so she can tell you where to make changes. I do see people on here do it so it can be done.
  5. I don’t have any advice to offer either but wanted to say congratulations. You already have the best team in place to help you make the best food choices for you and baby. Just be sure to stay in close contact with them and you should be fine. Best of luck to you.
  6. It’s really just a personal decision if there is not a glaring medical reason to choose one over the other. I am on medications and worried about absorption issues of bypass affecting them so I went with sleeve but I knew that I was possibly going to lose a few less pounds than I would with bypass. I think from my research the difference in weight loss between the two surgeries was only like 5-10% of excess weight which for me ended up being just a few pounds but I was lower BMI to start. If you eat a lot of sweets however the bypass could be even better for loss because you may dump on sugar which will help you stay away from them. But not everyone dumps from sugar so that’s not guaranteed.
  7. Thank you everyone for your replies. It took some time to figure it out again but I updated it to reflect my more realistic goal. I am still going to try to lose a little more and talk to my doctor about weight loss medications but I figure whatever else I lose I will just think of that as a bonus.
  8. Hi. I am trying to update my goal weight which I need to do on my laptop. Well, somehow I got logged out and my password is not working. I tried to recover but the email still has not come after 30 minutes (I checked my junk folder). Is it because it’s past business hours? Or any technical issues going on?? Is there a phone number to contact web support?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  9. I actually think this is where my body is happy and with my meds it may be as low as I get without taking weight loss meds or doing another procedure. I wouldn’t do another procedure at this point but I am going to talk to my doctor about the meds. I am at 179 and I am 5’8” so I am a little above a “normal” BMI but I would be happy here if I knew I could maintain it. Any heavier and I will have to reassess.
  10. It may be easiest to make sure you eat before they do if you set a strict schedule. I eat at six every night. Depending on what I am having and how long it takes I start cooking at different times. He doesn’t get hungry until later so I am full when he eats. That seriously helps a lot. It still looks good but I can live without it. Edited to add that I do sit down with him while he eats and we chat, I just don’t eat what he is having. i agree with suzannethemom though that it’s important to get that family time still. However you work it.
  11. It’s just my husband and I but we basically cook our own meals and he eats all the things I would love to eat. My best tip is to eat before you cook or they eat. If you aren’t starving it isn’t as hard to resist their food.
  12. I was the same way but it’s so unnecessary. You will eat your favorite foods again. Just in smaller portions. I am a little over a year out and I can eat anything I ate pre op. I have been able to for a while now.
  13. For me the liver Shrink diet was the hardest part. That’s because I had no real issues post op. It is pretty tough for most of us though for the first few days. Then, many say it gets easier. The better you shrink your liver the less maneuvering around it they have to do so that is less pain from bruising and stuff post op. You seriously do have this. Just pick a time and start. Ideally right now.
  14. If the shakes are too thick you can dilute them with milk or water.
  15. What is your current BMI? I got down close to my goal and stalled and then gained and it was the end of my weight loss. If you aren’t close to goal though it could just be a fluctuation. A three pound gain could be anything. Small fluctuations like that happen. For me when I eat carbs especially. It’s water weight and it goes away after a couple days without carbs. Are you still tracking what you eat? If you haven’t reached your bodies happy weight or accidentally put yourself into maintenance by increasing calories it is just a fluctuation. Time will tell.
  16. I have repeating alarms on my phone for all the same things. See most of us need reminders to keep us in line.
  17. My appointment only took about 15 minutes. It seemed like after he realized that I do have a mental illness but I am aware of it and in treatment with someone else he could check that box more easily. To be honest he didn’t ask me much about my relationship with food either. Although they are supposed to make sure you do not have any untreated mental illness or food addictions. The worst thing that will happen is that they say they want to see you back a few times before they sign off on your surgery. I think it is very rare that they would flat out deny you. My advice is to try to relax and just be honest. If they feel you need a few sessions to work out your issues with food or whatever it is for your own good. Dealing with any issues they find will only make you more successful when you do have your surgery.
  18. Any old picture where you are at your higher weight will do. The point is that it’s easier to see the difference between the two different sizes when it’s a picture for some reason than it is to see in our reflection.
  19. Ooh yea protein shakes should be on your full liquids list. I doubt they will be too thick but if they are you can dilute them with water.
  20. Are you on full liquids? I was when I left the hospital as well but not everyone is. If your not it won’t kill you to miss your protein goal by a little bit for a couple of days. Some people struggle for weeks and they are ultimately okay. I wouldn’t advance the diet faster than my team suggests.
  21. If they did a leak test on me it was during surgery because I don’t remember one.
  22. I do have days when I look in the mirror and still think I look the same. I am still not as small as I would like to be but I think I see a larger person in the reflection than I should. It’s called body dysmorphia. Some people say to take a picture of yourself and put it next to a picture of yourself pre surgery and that is supposed to help. I am fine with chicken post op. I don’t like it as much but it doesn’t make me sick or anything. I never liked pork. With crystal light I used to like fruit punch as it is but post surgery it’s too sweet so I mix it with watermelon which is not as sweet and I like it that way. I just mix up a gallon which uses two packets. No I did not have my liver punctured. That is the first I have heard of that but I bet that is why we have to do the liver shrink diet to try and help reduce that happening. I’m sorry you have gone through so much. It sounds like you should soon be in the uphill swing of things though. I have heard of people liking things post surgery that they didn’t like pre op so maybe you will like other proteins that you didn’t like if you try them?? I know that I like fish a lot more than I did pre op but I did like it some before.
  23. Makes you wonder when the rules are THAT different what goes into deciding.
  24. I didn’t ask about the tub but was told to wait a month to get I to the pool. I’m guessing it’s similar.
