Today is July 18th. I've been banded just over a year. I have decent restriction, now to learn to believe the 'soft stop' - if I don't stop immediately when I feel that, I'll be sick. Spicy foods I loved have got to go. Ouch that salsa hurt.

Today's Blah-Blah-Blah...
256.5 this morning. I spent over $100 on food. Geesh, I hope I can get this figured out, the shopping for less and throwing away a lot less! I have spent at least $100 on food, most every week for the last 28 years... many of those years I was feeding 3 or sometimes 4 people. Many years ago, that was a glutton of groceries, today it is mostly the staples. Anyway, why I don't have any money? I spend soo much on food. Weird psychological hangup? I had a fill last Tuesday, a good one. Best restriction I've had since the surgery, almost 1 year ago. I pray that this feeling lasts, I'm LOVING it that I'm full by 3 - 4 bites. Hard to wrap my head around though, I want bites 5-6! Also, got to get myself off the carby crunchy snacks that seem to never get stuck. I can work harder not to buy them. Excited about the week ahead, I have plenty of low sugar foods ready to eat. Will add some exercise, and make my goal to lose 2 lbs. by next Monday.

Stuck at 260!
We are singing the same tune. I'm almost a year from bandaversary, stuck at 260 for 6 months. I am not keeping my commitment to low fat, low sugar and plenty of exercise. It will come off, you're doing what you should - keep it up. Get a fill if you need it. I'm going in 2 weeks for a fill, and a jumpstart, back to the healthy side of life.

Breast cancer and the band?
I am ahead of the diagnosis a bit, my mammogram just came back bad.. but I am wondering if any of you have had treatment for breast cancer and if you can keep the lapband while in treatment?
-
How did you decide?
The insurance company made the decision for me. I was still pondering which surgery I wanted when the approval letter came for the lap band. I went with it. I sometimes wonder if the by-pass would have been a better choice, however, I'm 62 lbs down in 8 months and hope to be 80 down in 12 months, and at goal in 24 months.

Oh boy restriction! Need some advice! :)
It seems I can eat anything - when I eat with someone else. Alone, I get stuck and sick on everything!

How well do you tolerate oatmeal?
Okay, can't wait for breakfast to try pb in my oatmeal.

Sliders Anonymous
Dairy fat and sugar are my enemies too...

Well, don't buy the queso or ice cream. Not having it in the house is a good place to start! Salsa is a good substitue for queso, and a freezy Protein shake for the ice cream.

Struggling
Thank you, both of you. Also banded in July, and also at a plateau. Desperate, I recently spent hundreds of dollars on Jenny Craig. Failing that too, and just feel like a failure. This is about more than what I put in my mouth. This is more about what I put in my head. I thank both of you for being here on this board. Amazing how what I've been looking for, is right here. I need people with similar experiences. I need to not feel like I'm fighting this alone.

ACoA's and "fixer mentality"
Yes, it does. "I'll take care of that for you" "Let me help" "Nevermind, I'll get it"

2GoodDogs and a Blog
Another dog obedience trial today, I forced myself not to be nervous! Although the price to pay for that was a quick trip to the bathroom. He did a fine job today, got his scent articles right both times, heeling and signals were nice! Then for the directed glove retrieve (which we have never missed!) I made the signal motion short and choppy and he went after glove # 3, instead of 2. Today though, instead of severe disappointment, I felt disappointed, but did not come home and nosedive into the comfort food. I thanked my dog for being such a good boy, then I slowly ate my Jenny Craig meal. Turned off the tv, and just ate slowly. So, tomorrow I'll try again at the dog show, and tomorrow I'll try again to eat right.

New here - how long does surgery take?
Just 45 minutes for me.

Bc/BS of Ga
The surgeon's office submitted as soon as I'd done all the testing. It was approved in less than 2 weeks. The surgeon's requirements: Had a sleep study, psych consult, upper GI and blood, EKG. Had to get a letter from my primary care physician that said I was healthy enough for the surgery.

Bc/BS of Ga
I have BC BS of GA, Fed employees program, BASIC option. It covered the band, the hospital and tests, less my co-pays. Everyone was a preferred provider. I think I paid $1000 to cover the surgery.

why did you go lapband over bipass?
I was leaning toward the gastric bypass as my answer. However, my paperwork got submitted to insurance while I was still agonzing over which procedure to do. The insurance company sent a letter approving the lap band, I took that as a sign, and was scheduled for surgery in 14 days! So far, I love my non-decision. I can have a revision if necessary, but no surgery will "fix" my obesity, I have to fix that myself. I eat for other reasons than simply being hungry.

Disappointed
I had my 4th fill on Dec. 3. Still, don't feel restricted. I was 266 at the surgeon's office. Went back to Jenny Craig and bought $50 of food. Today has been revelation and revelation. I eat "socially" - I eat emotionally. I eat for every reason besides being hungry. I am supposed to wait till I'm hungry to eat, but I'm not often hungry. Am I really supposed to only eat every few days? I think not. And, I really, really want a sugar free diet dr. pepper! I went to the dog obedience trial today, arrived on time, freezing cold. I waited my turn, I just new today would be a great day. We had beautiful heeling and signals, nicest job we've done yet. Then, when we get to scent discrimination he searches the pile, and searches it again. I was 15' away willing him to back up and look at the one underneath him. He didn't, he just grabbed one and brought it to me. We failed our test already. The judge told me to take it from him and finish. I was crushed... I scented the next article and sent him to find it. He did and trotted back in with it, he knew he had it right. Then he went to do some brilliant work with the directed retrieve, moving stand for examination, directed jumping. But, I was really really mad that he missed that article. We could have won! He didn't come to sit in front after the jump. I must have looked mad, and he was avoiding me. So, I stuffed my disappointment with a double cheeseburger from Wendy's. It got stuck and came back up. The large chili, also from Wendy's, went down good, and the french fries I swipped out of my friend's order... delicious! When I got home I raided the candy dish and finished the salt water taffy. The I ate the Jenny Craig chocolate cake I'd been saving. Then I started on the crackers... thought for sure I'd hurl again, but didn't. Opened a can of chicken and dumplings, and ate my fill. Gave the rest to the dogs. Tomorrow is another day. We go back to the dog show and we will try again. Maybe tomorrow I won't eat my joy if we pass, maybe tomorrow I won't eat my sorrow if we don't. I can try. I'm planning to eat B - 1 cup oatmeal L - 1 cup Jenny Craig lunch D - 1 cup Jenny Craig dinner

Post turkey day 2 and the cravings are here. I would like just a little more of that sweet sticky stuff, and more gravy ... but today, I will restrain from high fat, sugar and salt, and eat what I know will nourish my body and new healthy lifestyle. A walk would be good idea today, and it is about time I clean my cave, I mean bedroom. B - 1/2 cup grits L - 1 italian sausage link with brown mustard S - cup of soup D - jenny craig meatloaf dinner

wondering about the insurance and if you all would do it again?
Yes, I would do it again tomorrow. It was an easy surgery and recovery for me. I have had 3 fills, lost 50 lbs, in 5 months. My insurance coverage was 70/30, and fills are covered, less my co-pay. It isn't a magic anything, but it is a realistic alternative to gastric bypass surgery and a chance to free myself from morbid obesity.

188 lbs and counting
I had that agonizing decision to make too. I was thinking gastric bypass, but when I consulted the surgeon it was for lap band. I was getting close to deciding, and then the insurance went through for lap. I thought, great! My decision is made for me! I'm happy with my lap band, but I know I would have lost a lot more weight by now with the by-pass. I'll give it 2 years, and see where I end up. Then, if I need to, I'll get the by-pass. I'm going to get my weight off, whatever it takes. Obesity will NOT be the death of me.
