  1. Thank You for this thread. I usually can't read much past the first 2 pages for boredom on most threads, but am actually sad to find the end of this one. In our house Bob and Jenny rock the bedroom. Silly, huh. Most times we can't say it with a straight face. FUPA? geeesh. I try and pretend it doesn't exist. When it deflates-what happens then???? Will I have to have it "taken in"? I'd hate to trip on it... like a really sad camel-toe, or a puppies face... (fingers in ears- lalalalalala) Thanks DeLarla, please come back! I requested your catalog!
  2. One time I saran-wrapped a vehicle. Over, under, over, under, over, under. It is really funny, easy to video, and the worst consequence is making him late for work while he looks for a scissors. You know those industrial-sized rolls of wrap for store pallets? I suppose you could get an even better roll at costco. The food service wrap is more clingy. This is a BAD idea if he has a remote starter, melted plastic can catch fire. Of course there is something wonderful about pulling off a really stupid classic, like using your new roll of saran wrap on the toilet to make a urine trampoline. Eeew.
  3. C'mon, you KNOW where they put'em. :couch2:
  4. My surgeon wanted me to keep my incisions dry. I am not sure why. One of my strips came off early and the wound fell open a bit. No problem except that the new scab was wider and much deeper. It is healing well, just slowly. I bought some steri-strips but they just weren't the same. Probably nothing to worry about since my surgeon also said that we could remove them early if we had sensitivity to the adhesive. Whew... wasn't that the long way to say "don't stress and call your doc"?
  5. Me too! March first, I am sooo there! Whee, I'm gonna get a second ticker just like the cool people. ...and then...I'll take over the WORLD..hehehehe
  6. Not sure if its true or not, but since we are already "There" I heard that some GB'ers use carbon filters to neutralize odors. *shiver*
  7. Thanks Jack, I never thought of Sweet potatoes! Small amounts would help in getting the beta carotene too! Donali, thanks for writing. Most of us know a good deal about nutrition, myself included and it is wonderful to hear someone else agree with my theory that docs try to convert bandsters to the "ideal" diet by padding the rulebook. I have no intent to sabotage myself or others. Since banding my desire for empty calories has diminished and I almost always choose the high-fiber/low fat option. I just don't want to end up on a diet of poached chicken breast and tomato slices. Eeep Very glad that this thread has helped darlin. Take care y'all, Brenda
  8. http://www.inamed.com/pdf/health/94829F_LB_Patient_Book.pdf This is the link to the OLD inamed handbook. It has statistics on one of the middle-ish pages 3 years out on bandsters only. It compares successes between different levels of obesity. I hope it works, this is my first link on LBT. :nervous Wheetsin pointed out that this handbook has not been updated since 2003. That makes it horribly out of date. I'd delete it, but I am just so proud of my first little link.. Thanks Wheetsin!
  9. Hey Dawn, I wouldn't mind a little drive to Olympia once in a while, or maybe a midpoint like Tacoma. My best friend is in Vancouver and has been banded for a couple years now. Olympia is in the middle, if Peg and I ever get our act together maybe we could have a "band party" over SF/FF Coffees... Brenda
  10. Thank You Jenna! Like DeLarla said back on page one, this is a fun thread. I am Irish, so Mor-Saille means sea-willow in Gaelic. It is pronounced oddly ("Vor-sigh-ah-lee"). Most people think I am just being goofy and trying to sound french, like Marseilles. Nah, I'm much weirder than that... Brenda
  11. Happy Kuri patient here (Dr. Pedro Kuri), his new hospital is gorgeous. I had almost no discomfort and always felt well-taken-care-of while in Mexico. I think it was DeLarla that had a Kuri complication. That is the ONLY one I have ever seen. Good luck and Better health! Brenda
  12. I started at 312. Not too far into the process yet, but no regrets either. There are LOTS of Doctors, but only one You! Do what you feel is best. Brenda
  13. Want to make a wrinkled, saggy, man neck SEXY? You can, in about a month and with no surgery or expensive creams. :yo: Tan it, then show it off! People will assume you are rich, powerful, and secure with nothing but spare time. Bald too? Flaunt it. Wear polos, and tank tops with dock shoes! Wink at strangers. If you are comfortable, others will assume you have cause to be comfortable. :ip: Congratulations on your weight loss AND your chic new chick-magnet. :hail: :thumb: Brenda
  14. Housedresses are GREAT, especially if you have a higher BMI (like I do). I had a dress from "holyclothing" that was a lifesaver. A robe is important if you want to do any trotting around while in your hospital gown. I decided on my first day post-op to skip on the loose waisted pants because I had more pain sitting when there was a waistband. I think you mentioned gauze, but if you didn't, band-aids are good. Walking was a snap for me. It was the getting up and down that smarted. Especially the bending - have a floor buddy! If you will be in Mexico, remember the lotion and lipbalm. My WA hide wasn't prepared for the dryness. These are the things I wish I'd brought to hospital. Your list seems thorough and well thought-out. I am positive your experience will be a breeze. Take care, Brenda
  15. Hey Kat, just search forums for "Ortiz" and select the big thread started by Dr. Ortiz himself. Just make sure you have lots of time, 'cause it is a little bit of a read. Brenda
  16. Theres gotta be a reason why I haven't seen this posted. Probably me, just being freaky again.. OK, here goes: When I brush my teeth, I usually brush my tongue too. This makes me gag several times. TMI, right? Now to my weird question. Isn't this gagging like a reverse PB putting strain on my band site? Do you all gag, not gag, have tongue crust, or use a tongue scraper? :brushteeth: :spit: :brushteeth: :spit: :brushteeth: Thanks, Brenda
  17. If you are getting plenty of fluids and are taking a chewable multivitamin, could it be that you're not getting enough dietary fat to metabolize the Vitamin E and Vitamin A? Use a little Olive oil while cooking. The only other thing I can think of is just seasonal/climate changes. My Sis peels every winter straight through spring. Get yourself a good moisturizer and throw yourself a spa day. Take care, Brenda
  18. Nah, I paid for the fill. I only recieved .6 cc. I think it would have been cheaper if I had been able to pay by volume. I know having too much is dangerous, but... just being negative I guess. Sorry if I confused people. :nervous Thanks everyone for being out there and excited for me. Brenda
  19. Here are two of my favorite baby pics. She is two now and moves much too quickly to be bothered by Mom and her camera. Loved the pictures of everyones favorite children, thanks for this really fun thread.
  20. I have read in so many places that bandsters should not have rice, bread, potatoes, or pasta. If this is true, do experienced bandsters eat starches, and if so, what? I can see maybe airpopped popcorn or the occasional graham cracker ( I have a 2 year old). Of course, when I think about it - even if a bandster ate carbs - technically the quantity would be low (carb). Ha.
  21. I was filled yesterday for the first time. Not sure if I was nervous, but the 1.2 cc they tried to give was too much so I ended up paying for .6 cc. I am worried that this may not be enough for a long term benefit, but for right now, Yay! Last night I had some V-8. It caught and stayed in the band and I felt fully satisfied for 2 minutes or so at a time. I am still on liquids today. The instant Breakfast went down a little faster, so after a couple of hours and a big bottle of Water I switched back to the thicker V-8. I love not being hungry. Woo-Hoo. I am getting started - finally. :)
  22. I am new too, but banded. I go for my first fill tomorrow (yay) and I understand about the whole husband thing. Mine is like- "why aren't you happy? You've had the surgery." And my friends are asking me when it will start working. Want to bash them a little. Feel free to write if you want. I am pretty good at the correspondence thing. Sure we could find something to talk about. Welcome, and thanks for stopping in.
  23. A l'envers des nuages, il y a toujours un ciel. I am sorry that you are losing such a huge emotional investment. Take care, Brenda
  24. Banded: 1/16/06 Country: Mexico Doctor: Pedro Kuri Eroded: No, everything is great First fill scheduled 2/17/06 Thanks for doing this - compiling all of our data. Very interesting.
  25. I was banded 1/16. I feel only mild restriction and than mostly in the morning. I think that it is completely normal to feel nothing until you start mushies or solids. If you do, that means that you are applying pressure to a very raw area. It takes a month to heal. Also, your surgeon is requiring clear fluids for a reason. It gets easier. If you are aching for protein, I understand that there is a clear protein drink that is sold at GNC. It is supposed to be one of the better tasting even though I have not sampled it. Isopure. The fluid stages of healing are very important. You will hurt yourself if you try to rush or skip phases. Welcome to the group, you will be on purees before you know it - well almost. :welcome:
