  1. I'm in month 5 of my 6 month "waiting period" before my surgeon submits my paperwork to insurance. I'm hopeful to have RNYGB in early 2019 if all goes well. I've heard that success is considered losing 50% of your excess weight. However, I am about 120 lbs overweight and would really like to lose 100 lbs or more. Am I dreaming? Or is that attainable? I am 5' 3" and weigh about 233. I exercise daily for a minimum of 30 minutes and have every intention of sticking with the exercise, water, and nutrition plan. I just feel like I will be disappointed to only lose 60 lbs!
  2. Hi, GettinSkinnywithit. Thanks for the suggestion to call my surgeon's office. I think I will see what they say. You're right that they know all the insurance requirements. I've lost a few pounds this month and go back for my next nutrition visit in 10 days.
  3. Thanks for pisting that. I also use the Tespo vitamin dispenser and think it's great! I'll have to check out the water bottle. Hoping to ha e my RNY in early 2019
  4. I'm east of the Mississippi, in Connecticut. There are at least 2 others from CT on here.
  5. Thanks for your encouragement@mousecat88. Appreciate your input.
  6. Thanks@johnsons13. I appreciate your reply and encouragement. I'm just worried about being rejected and having to do another 6 months of diet and exercise!! You're right, though we need the extra help of surgery because we can't lose adequately on our own!
  7. The third month of my 6 month supervised diet and exercise program I gained 9 lbs! I had slacked off and was not feeling motivated and didn't weigh myself so I actually didn't know I had gained that much. I have gotten back on track and have lost 5 lbs. Will my insurance company deny me because I gained weight that month?? I have Anthem BC/BS. I've got 6 weeks left until my 6 months are up and I get submitted for approval.
  8. Jumping in here just to add that I'm pre surgery but because I have GERD and the barium swallow showed a decent amount of reflux and dismobility my surgeon won't do a sleeve for me. He says the sleeve makes GERD worse. I've heard it said on these boards that the sleeve us a high press system. Good luck with whichever procedure you choose!
  9. I have severe GERD, even with proton pump inhibitors and acid reducers, and my surgeon won't do a sleeve on me because he says the sleeve will make GERD worse.
  10. Thanks, mousecat88. And thanks to all who replied! I Do need to remember why I'm doing this. I'm frustrated by folks (psychiatrist and a friend from work) who insist I can just lose the weight through diet and exercise alone, and that I don't need the surgery. Everyone is worried that it's too drastic. I saw the surgeon today and feel a renewed motivation! Let's get rid of those comorbidities!!!
  11. Ive used CBD oil capsules and cream. It is not illegal. The capsules make me tired so I take at bedtime. Both seem to work pretty well. We get it either online or at a local tobacco shop. Online is cheaper.
  12. Thank you both for your replies and your encouragement! I feel better. I just need to remember why I began this journey.
  13. I need to get back on track. I started this journey in May with my visit to the surgeon. I had 2 support groups, visit to cardiologist, psych evaluation and was going strong. I just had my 4th nutrition visit and have 2 left before all my pre surgery requirements are complete. But. Im losing my motivation to having this surgery. I like to eat, and am afraid of the big lifestyle changes. I want to be healthy and be able to climb stairs, get rid of my diabetes and hypertension and high cholesterol, but I need to get motivated again. Anyone been through this? Any suggestions for getting back on track? Thanks!!
  14. Awesome job! Congratulations!! That is inspiring.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion. Just ordered the book!
  16. That is really helpful. Thanks for posting that.
  17. Wow, I could have written your post! I am 2 months into my 6 months of requirements. I started off wanting the bypass because I have GERD, but I take some meds for depression which may not be absorbed properly with the bypass, so in that sense the sleeve would be better. I'm so conflicted, but still leaning towards the bypass. Good luck with your decision!
  18. Clarify what, exactly? I have Anthem BC BS and I also have to be followed by the surgeon and nutritionist for 6 months, have a psych evaluation, cardiology visit, stress test, and attend two support group meetings, and have a barium swallow test. Like allwet said, it all sounds completely normal and expected. Are you getting two different sets of requirements depending on the doctor? If so, I'd go first with what your insurance requirements are. Then your bariatric surgeon shiuld do what insurance requires.
  19. I don't like Protein20, but just tried Trimino, which has 7 gm protein per bottle and it is really good.
  20. I'll be watching your responses as I am worried about telling my supervisor as well. I think she'll be negative and judgmental. I don't plan to tell coworkers but that could change after the surgery.
  21. I have a Tespo machine that uses powdered bariatric vitamins and makes it into a small "shot" to drink. Maybe that would help you. You actually dont need the machine. And can mix your own.
