  1. Hi, benny10. I'm sorry your parents are saying that nonsense. I think the truth is that being obese increases the chances of premature death and that having surgery snd losing weight and getting healthy will increase your life span. Be brave and stay strong. We're here for you!
  2. I think it really varies from company to company. Does your surgeon's office have an insurance coordinator? That person would be able to give you an idea of how long your insurance company takes. I hope it is real soon!! Hang in there.
  3. Good to know many others had the same thing. I don't look forward to going through hot flashes again, though! Once was enough!! Lol.
  4. May I ask how old you are? If you're over 40 it could be perimenopause! Of course if you're young, all bets are off. Sorry this is happening to you!
  5. Hi. I think even if you choose the sleeve you're going to need to take vitamins daily for life. Although there aren't malabsorption issues with the sleeve you can't get away with skipping the vitamins post surgery. Good luck with whichever you choose!
  6. Hi, there! I'm having RNY in either very late December or early January. No date yet. Read the post surgery forum for advice on what to expect afterwards. Cheers!
  7. Well, my husband's name is Bri for short, and we were married in 2015.
  8. There are a ton of posts that answer your questions. Just spend some time browsing through the forum or try some searches. Good luck!
  9. Have you tried one of those special light boxes? I hear they work, but may be pricey. May be cheaper than moving to Florida! :-)
  10. Just a quick thought...does your surgeon actually allow sleeve patients to take NSAIDS? Mine does not allow NSAIDs for either procedure. I rely on NSAIDs, too, and will just have to suck it up and find some other pain relief. I'm having bypass because of GERD. good luck to you! I hope you get the procedure you want.
  11. I have not. Hoping for late December or January.
  12. Your surgeon should have her/his own version of a liver reducing diet that they will want you to follow. Mine is 3 shakes, plus 2 cups raw non starchy veggies, plus a fat free yogurt or 2 hard boiled eggs. Hope thus helps.
  13. Hate to sound stupid, but what is LRD? [emoji4]
  14. Hi, there. I'm hoping for a January surgery date, but won't know for a month or so. I have one more nutrition visit then we can submit to insurance! In a way the 6 month period is going by quickly, and in another way it is dragging!! Excited for change and better health!
  15. Thanks, RHCD. Congratulations on your weight loss so far! That's awesome. All of you who replied have been an encouragement to me.
  16. Thanks, CyclicalLoser. I like your explanation and it makes good sense. We're all so different that the doctors have to downplay how much weight we could lose. And as many have said, gaining mobility, energy, better health are more important to me than a number on the scale. I just don't want to still be obese after all is said and done. I've read so many encouraging stories that I think with this new tool, hard work, and determination I will make this work!
  17. I use unsweetened vanilla Almond Milk because I cannot tolerate regular milk.
  18. CyndieRI, thanks so much for that. I'm encouraged that your weight gain in the middle didn't affect your approval! Fingers crossed.
  19. I use the Baritastic app which tracks good, water, exercise and has a section for measurements. It tells you what to measure and you can track it. The app is free.
  20. Hi, and welcome! When you look around the boards you'll find some other posts on this subject. I haven't had surgery yet, but have to go with the RNY because I have pretty significant reflux even on strong meds. My surgeon won't do the sleeve on me. The sleeve is really popular though. Do your research and read a lot, and you and your surgeon will come to the right decision for your particular circumstances. Best wishes.
  21. I have Anthem BCBS in Connecticut and have the same requirements. I'm not positive, but think they use your starting weight, and it is ok if you go below a BMI of 40 during your 6 months. Can you ask your surgeon's office? They deal with this all the time. I have the opposite problem. I gained 9 pounds in month 4!! Ive lost it again in month 5, but not sure if I'll get denied for the weight gain!!
  22. Mine is 6 months of sequential nutrition visits. I found my insurance requirements online, but also called.
  23. Thanks, MarinaGirl. I totally agree that I wouldn't be happy only losing 60 lbs and still being obese after WLS. Thanks for your encouragement and advice!
  24. That's ok, FluffyChix! I benefit from everything I read on here! Or mostly everything!! You all have been very helpful to me.
  25. Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. I feel encouraged and motivated to do my best, and stick with the plan. First snd foremost Im looking for better health, then the weight loss.
