  1. Hi, Bigpants, a fellow nutmegger here, but I live about 25 miles east of Hartford. Having my surgery at Hartford Hospital. There are a few others on here from Connecticut. Maybe they'll chime in!
  2. I have female pattern hair thinning and took biotin and all it did was cause acne (a common side effect). It did nothing for my hair. I now use Rogain (the generic from CVS) but I will have to use it forever! It works great, but you can't stop or the hair will thin again.
  3. My insurance doesn't cover the MGB. Im having RNY gastric bypass, which is covered. Glad you're so successful and congrats on the weight loss!
  4. MarinaGirl. This is really encouraging snd helpful. Do you have 3 meals a day, plus occasional snacks? Or just 3 mesls a day?
  5. I also had the home test gor sleep apnea. I had something around my chest with a battery pack, and a thin cannula type thing just inside my nostrils. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, and now have been using a CPAP for about 18 months. No problems with insurance covering everything.
  6. Challenge Starting weight: 227 Current weight lost: 20 l s Losing or maintaining weight: losing Fitness/exercise goal: 6 days a week
  7. Hi, Njgurl. I just had an ultrasound looking for gallbladder issues and can tell you that the gallbladder is on the upper right side, not left. Hope you feel better!
  8. If you take any meds bring a list of them. You may want to ask the surgeon how many surgeries s/he has performed, complication rates, and be prepared to discuss any comorbidities and GERD. Good luck! I met with my surgeon in May and was also so excited to get the process going. Next week is my final nutrition visit then they submit to insurance!!
  9. Terrific article!! Thanks for posting it. I have not yet had my RNY, and found it Very helpful!! Thank you!!
  10. Phew! Thanks, FluffyChix! I'm happy to know there will be normalcy down the road!!
  11. My team has me preparing for after bypass surgery by practicing taking small bites and chewing each one 30 times. I imagine this is because my new pouch won't be holding much food and it makes it easier to digest. My question is are we always going to have to chew food 30 times because the duodenum is bypassed thus decressing the digestion of food? Do you bypass folks who are months out tske normal nites, and chew normally? What is the effect in your digestion of having food ho straight to the jejunum. Sorry if I spelled that wrong!
  12. Do you have reflux or GERD? I am going with bypass rather than the sleeve because I have pretty significant reflux even while on meds. Also, as irrational as it seems, I don't like the fact that with the sleeve they remove most of your stomach. With bypass they leave it in, just make a separate small pouch. I guess I'm weird! Good luck with your decision.
  13. Oh! So sorry to hear that. I agree you should definitely appeal. How disappointing for you. ((Hugs))
  14. What surgery did you have? I believe in gastric bypass they don't actually remove the stomach, but bypass it, so even though it is complicated it can be reversed. Ask Matt Z. I believe he knows of someone who did have it reversed. Anyway, I was more concerned about how terribly ill these folks sounded who claim to want a reversal. They were 7 years and 16 years post surgery. I was afraid of long term complications, but i have had my fears allayed. Thanks for your post.
  15. Praying for an approval for you!!
  16. Thanks, MarinaGirl! I don't think those two who posted were "regular" posters, or had even been on the forum before. They just appeared out of nowhere, and maybe have disappeared too. I appreciate your post, and encouragement.
  17. You look awesome! What an inspiring post. Congratulations!
  18. Congrats! As a newbie RNY wannabe I love reading your posts!
  19. Thanks, Matt Z. I was pretty freaked out and don't want to get majorly ill from bypass. I do have tremendous confidence in my surgeon though. And most folks on here are really positive about the experience. Appreciate your post.
  20. Thanks, lunnah. That seems like a fairly moderate rate of loss.
  21. Twice yesterday I read posts by folks fairly far out from RNY who were experiencing illness and desired to have their surgeries reversed. I was alarmed by how sick these folks sounded. I have not yet had my RNY and am hoping for December or January. However their posts gave me pause. How often do people get seriously ill from bypass and need it reversed? Is it very rare? Thanks!
  22. That's really horrible. I feel for you, and hope you get resolution to your problems. It is quite scary for me. I haven't had surgery yet and your post was sobering. I'd like other vets to weigh in on this, too. Maybe I'm making a big mistake!
