I agree with Mikeyy. This is a big deal having bariatric surgery and you should be 100% confident in your surgeon.

So, I was diagnosed with a stricture and I can barely function because I feel like I am going to throw up at any minute. I'm having trouble tolerating liguids and I don't want to get dehydrated. Even when I sip slowly I have terrible pressure in my pouch and throat. Any tips to make this easier until I have my dilation procedure? Thanks.

Maybe you're suddenly lactose intolerant...? That would cause bowel cramps and diarrhea. Hope you feel better soon.

Only from the medication they have me on - Carafate. How many ounces of fluids are you taking in a day? Maybe you're dehydrated

Hi, Iliana00000, no, at this point I don't think I need another surgery. Just an endoscopy to stretch the stricture. I dont think you get strictures with the sleeve because they don't reattach your intestines. I hope you'll be ok. Maybe your surgeon will have some ideas tohelp you feel better.

Yes! I have exactly the same problem. I am 4 weeks out and no longer able to tolerate purees or liquids. Constantly feel like I am going to throw up. Saw my Surgeon's PA yesterday who ordered an emergency upper GI series and it turns out I have a stricture!! They are going to do an endoscopy on Tuesday to try to stretch the opening between my pouch and intestines. I had RNY gastric bypass btw. Don't wait, call surgeon's office Monday if you're not feeling better.

There was a recent thread about bad breath. One suggestion was to chew parsley. On the smelly crotch, there's a real thing called "keto crotch ". You can Google it. Not sure there is a cure.

Hi, Frustr8!! Thanks for your post. Well, I had the study done and it does not appear to be a stricture but a spasm clamping my anastomosis shut and preventing anything from getting thru. It spasms, which causes massive reflux, then opens up a bit and some liquid gets thru, then it snaps shut again like a snapping turtle!! I am waiting for my surgeon to call me to tell me what we're going to do about this problem. I've never heard of such a thing!! Maybe I should call my pouch "turtle"!!

I'm just 4 weeks post surgery and having loads of pouch pressure and nausea. Can no longer tolerate liquids or purees. Unfortunately they can't do an endoscopy because my pouch is still healing. Guess they have to wait 6 to 8 weeks post surgery to do an endoscopy so they sent me to have some sort of barium study. Waiting at the hospital now. Does anyone know if a stricture will show up on a barium test? What can they do for a stricture if they can't do an endoscopy? Do I just have to suffer for another month? Ugh!

I don't know the answer, but I take a bariatric vitamin twice a day and calcium citrate twice a day, and one B12.

Never heard of outpatient bariatric surgery! Glad it worked out well for you. I spent 2 nights in the hospital because I was not allowed anything by mouth for 24 hours. No leak test done though. Interesting how surgeons are so different!

Vivian, dud did your surgeon's office give you any guidelines on how many ounces of liquid you should aim for each day? Mine is at least 64 oz with the more the better.

Mine too. The surgeon didn't require it though.

I agree with Gradycat. It is not like they cover it but denied you. Then you could appeal. If your employer just choses chooses not to to purchase that coverage you are kind of stuck. So sorry! Maybe ask HR if they would consider adding it next time they purchase their coverage. If enough folks ask maybe they will cover it.

I had to be on a medically supervised diet for 6 months, although they did not dictate how much I had to lose. Over the 6 months I probably lost 15 pounds.
