  1. The nurse who showed me how to inject myself said it only burns if you don't give the alcohol enough time to evaporate. She was right. The only ones that hurt were when I got in a hurry. I did them for 2 weeks after surgery.
  2. This is called the slimies or foamies. It means you ate too much or too fast. It's normal, but definitely something you'd prefer to avoid.
  3. Wow, that's awful. Glad it's out and you're on the mend. Appreciate the warning!
  4. I've lost 82 lbs since my preop diet started 2-16-18. According to the charts, I would have done well to lose that by 12 months. I'm 59 years old, so I think my results are amazing. Can't speak to how well I will maintain my loss, once I get there. But I sure will work at it.
  5. I've had rectal surgery. So I'll bet that the "reverse Trendelenburg position" isn't the least dignified position I've been in in my life!
  6. I read up on various procedures for a couple of years before I made the choice. Had my surgeon recommended something else, I would have given that due consideration. However, he thought the sleeve was appropriate given my starting size and my expectations. Cost was not a factor for me. I would have hit my out-of-pocket max no matter which procedure I chose. I can say that I ruled out the balloon early. I figured that if my stomach was already distended, the balloon would help me eat less for a little while, but I'd gradually just stretch it some more to make room for what my "eyes" thought was an appropriate serving of food. Then, after 6 months, when the balloon was removed, my stomach would be even bigger than before. Also didn't want the lap-band. Had already heard of people having scarring/slippage issues. Did not consider DS, my BMI wasn't high enough to justify it. Hadn't heard about the mini-bypass until recently, so it wasn't on my radar. So, I mainly chose between RNY and VSG.
  7. Because my specific issues were excessive hunger and portion control. The sleeve addressed both of these. I wanted the ghrelin reduced and I wanted the restriction.
  8. I had 2 glasses of wine with my birthday dinner, 5 months post-op. I didn't feel that it hit me hard, but I had a designated driver, anyway. Haven't had any since. As much as I enjoy my wine, I'd rather keep my calories low right now.
  9. Congratulations!
  10. AMEN, Sister! Actually, I do buy bras online most of the time. Manufacturers assume that when a woman's got plenty of padding, a good portion of that should have gone to her b@@bs. Alas, that is not the case. Even at my highest weight, I was only a C cup, but I really needed a 44 band. Never found that. Had to make do with size 42Cs and bra extenders. But, at least I could find the 42Cs online. Don't know that I ever found them in stores.
  11. I am terribly sorry for your loss. I know the type of grief that causes physical pain and turns you inside out. I love the suggestions above about doing something that honors his memory and keeps it alive. My suggestion would be to start writing down everything you can remember about him. His sense of humor, his eccentricities, his annoying habits. Remember and record vacation memories, brother-sister teasing, ways that he was wonderful and ways that he was goofy. It's sad to say, but as time goes by, these memories become fuzzy around the edges, some will be forgotten entirely. Make a gift to your future self by collecting and saving all the memories that you can. If you are a church-goer, many churches have grief support groups and/or Stephen ministers that can offer support. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.
  12. Congrats on your re-set and hope everything goes well!
  13. On another thread, someone suggested putting a load of ashes/butts into a plastic bag. When the temptation to smoke hits you, open the bag and take a big whiff. Good luck, I know it's hard!
  14. In my experience the tailoring for men's suits is not included in the price. One thing I will grant - men's suits usually have plenty of fabric to hem the pants. Women's suits usually have very little fabric to work with, making it very difficult for tall women.
  15. Can you please be specific - which brand of bariatric vitamins you're recommending? There are so many brands and they all have different nutritional content. Thanks
  16. It can't hurt your sleeve. It's a liquid and will pass right through. Congrats on your surgery! Hope your healing goes well!
  17. Some people have more money than sense! Although, if I were paying $495 just for that stupid logo, I'd want it even bigger so that people across the room knew how much money I had to waste on ugly shirts! And those men's coats - looks like those pouty boys enlisted in the Continental Army! They have tails! Where are the George Washington wigs?
  18. Try sf jello. Don't chew well. It will slide down fine. It gives you a sense of "full" for a while.
