arthritis and weight loss surgery
I am arthritic, have been , both major kinds since age 25. I have been blessed that I have had no major flares recently. The few I have had Tylenol or Norco has handled. Funny it never really worked for me before surgery. My joints arthritis destroyed will never be perfect again, I have 2 knew replacements, had metal plates in right arm, now removed, from a FX of the humerusc9 years ago, and had to have joint at base of my right thumb removed. Now I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery. But I move smoother and at a quicker rate of speed than before my surgery. And the 165+ pounds since highest weight and 119 since surgery, both wonderful occurances in my life!. Do I regret SURGERY even with a history of Arthritis? NO NO--- A THOUSAND TIMES--- NO! Without it I potentially would be much more crippled and was not too far from being Wheelchair bound. I am sorry I cannot go full tilt at gym exercises but those my body will permit I do faithfully, water therapy is a blessing, I bike ride although I will never qualify for Pelatonia, support them from the sidelines, and do that to honor the cancer people in my family, living and dead. I can still pass out water, help in these minor ways, cheer them on! They routed through my county last year, I live 50 miles from Columbus, if they choose to come here again I will be there cheering my lungs out in sincerity! I haven't had to visit my rheumatologist, my PCP has been able to handle me. I thank my surgeon for my surgery, my PCP and other doctors for standing with me through this all and I would now feel a success story still in the making. God Bless and Watch over YOU.

Hair loss & Biotin when did you start taking it?
I take the Spring Valley(i think that's correct, so many of my over- the- counter ones at Wal-Mart). Oh shoot ,,,let me go look. I'm texting instead,of Sleeping tonight. Nope I WAS WRONG, it's Natures Bounty with the Pink label, I take 2 cgelcapc at a time, the Spring Valley was the one, the pills gave me indigestion. I had an RNY to cure GERD, do not need indigestion! How long have I taken them? Started about 10 weeks after surgery, has it worked? Well I am a redhead, we have the fewest per square inch hair follicles, I barely have thinned. Weird where I did- my bangs lost their thickness, I b justvdont sweat it, just combed them back into the chair behind. So what if I have more of a pixie than a Dutch bob, I've still got hair! And these days it comes in handy!

To Tell or NOT to Tell
@DianaP I looked up on your profile where you l7ve. I wanted to see where you lived, with such a nice group of other moms, because it doesn't seem the norm here. I will be hop8ng to hear more good things from you as your own surgery time comes and then you start your New Future! The best of everything for you and your family, at least your side. I married into such a family myself! One of their statements that still bugs me and I've known these people , most of them 50by3ars and over " So and so is so pretty in the face!" always wanted to ask : Is the REST of that person's body chopped chickenbl8ger? And. they had a habit 9fcsaying this when they knew the person in question was withinbear shot And then that aunt would say ( with fake repentance) Oh my, did you hear that? Of course SHE heard, you have a Voice as loud as a Foghorn! AAND A FEW TIMES I HAD to hold and console the child or young adult 5heir words had wounded#

Starting to feel very, very scared
And LT1968 I will celebrate my 1st Surgiversity on September 5th. And I have had a far from typical recovery, starting out, I am very old to have sought Bariatric Surgery, I was 72 years, 8 m9nths and I think 16(just counted up) days old when I received my RNY. I had sought it foe over 3 years, so yes I REALLY WANTED IT! Things started out fine , then I developed some rarer complications, had different interventions, not quite healed yet! So Hon, if anyone regretted surgery, wished they went back to the way before, it should be ME! But a funny thing happened on my way to victory--- I am not sorry. Would I go through it again? Yeah at least 85% sure I would. I started at 365+ pounds, at that point I put my Heavy little Foot down and said "You shall weigh me no more" last bit of spunk in my rapidly breaking- down body. PCP threatened I would be dead by 75, called me a Walking TimeBomb, the fact I had not developed all the diseases in my gene pool did not ensure I wouldn't. Well i might be fail8ng fast but I am a natural redhead, Mama called it Strawberry Blonde but it still is pretty red! And that and natural mid- to Old Age crabbiness, no young whelp not even one with a Medical License is going to get in my face and say "Die, dang you, die!" Since he lives in a gated community so I can't blow his house up, I shall vent my sleen by continuing to live. And a moment of clarity came! I shall seek Bariatric surgery, and I will do it to prove all my nay-sayers wrong! And it was an uphill battle, most programscaround here won't take you above 60, the majority of the rest 70, found a program , went through a program not once but twice, first time through I lost insurance coverage, after attempt #2 surgeon capriciously decided " I don't want to do your surgery!" Still have never deduced what HIS PROBLEM was, got some suspections, but I v am well rid of him ! And his home hospital, where he performed his surgeries? Embroiled in a very extensive LawSuit, quite the talk of this section of Mid-America. There was a doctor employed there, appointed himself the Death Angel & overdosed people to their death, 40 and still growing. Where will it stop? Not until the final total is reached. Oh he will be going away for a very long time when he is finally convicted. How my years is 40 times Life behind bars? Any way Thank God for getting me away from that place! I found a better surgeon at a better hospital, band although I am his oldest patient I intend to be one of the best! And tonight I finally made it below. 200 pounds, 199.4, on Bariatric Pal we call it Onederland, and I know I would never have made here without commitment and my surgery. So Thanks to all who helped, My Dr Needleman especially , he believed in me and gave me this chance! Saved my life? I bel8eve so! Oh I could go on and on singing praises to him, he is not only a skillful surgeon but a heck of a nice guy. And my new motto? THE REST OF MY LIFE WILL BE THE BEST OF MY LIFE! How much longer will I live? No person on earth knows that for certain But I do know it will be so much better! I scarcely know myself, my size of course changed, but so did my appearance. I used to have chipmunk cheeks, now I have an angular one, there is gossip , often denied by my father's people that we have Native American/First Nations ( depending whether you are American or Canadian) well hello the high cheekbones have popped out. Been covered up since babyhood but Whoops there they are! Make everyone a challenge, if you have Wikipedia on your computer or smartphone pull up Peoria people or Peoria tribe. The lady pictured there is the spitting image of my Aunt Minnie, Daddy's sister. You get out the family scrapbook, my Great- great grandfather, yes they had film that long ago, looks just like Iron Eyes Cody, an actor I believe from the Lakota tribe. Oh I have far from sufficent blood to ever be on a tribal role but I find it interesting to be maybe be more initialed to be in Ohio than the average settler family. So I have started resembling dead relatives, some of which were real foodies. It's Almost like" Hiya Mirror! Who do I look like today?" But it is rather fun and I might actually turn out pretty cute! I am definitely a Work in Progress! Fear is natural, you are entering a Brave New World, an undiscovered Land, there may or may not be signposts along the way, but I will promise you UT IS MORE THAN WORTH THE TROUBLE! Come join me on the? journey, walk with me a while. And who knows for certain we may each find??❤?

after weight loss surgery...
Recliner, finally bed, yeah wish my own bed had been adjustable, would have back to bed a lot quicker. Went from having to push myself upright out of the chair, when you have arthritis your body likes freezing in one position m And the next step was wiggling and squirming to the edge to try sitting up before you wet yourself . At 72 both Mother Nature and Father Time curse you and being the possessor of 3 kidneys, a Birthday gift from my parents gene pool, they also were also blessed? with 3 apiece. Means you produce copious urine frequently. Does come handy when a medical person demands an urine sample, never totally dry inside, even when I teeter on dehydration I can get out a teaspoon (15ml) or 2. Sometimes I move fast enough to make it to the Chamber Room, sometimes not. One of my Comical friends gave me a box of Adult Pull-ups, the laugh's on her because sometimes I do wear them! No shame, no blame, oldest Bari-patient is MY. True NAME!

Woo hoo! Onderland!

This is the amount Valerie CNP and Dr Needleman's right hand woman( & by extension Dr Needleman) set as a goal for my Weight loss. I would like and plan to get down to my own goal of 175. I comprehend these last 25 pounds may be more pokey coming off, but I HAVE COME SO FAR- I CAN'T AND WON'T STOP NOW especially now that I can see it shining ahead, that's the REAL THING not glitter someone else dropped! PRAYERS SOLICTED AND GRATEFULLY ACCEPTED!? I did it, I really did it!

And ❤caths, while not the most enjoyable way to spend a day. I have had 2 caths, mutiple ultrasounds, been punched, prodded and found out in February 2019 I have an thoracic aorta aneurysm. Luckily not enlarging or needing surgery but quite a scary thought. Well, there is anything else I can do to make you feel Better now???????

Underwear?
Can you imagine what shape you would be in if you DID require underwire for your rump area? Rather boggles the mind doesn't it!

Feeling "weepy" & sad
Yes there is no shame asking for help if you need it. The surgery can upset your emotions, make you doubt the wisdom of your surgery and even worse, make you doubt yourself. Try to find someone who knowns, understands and is willing to work with bariatric patients, we are not always the easier traditional clients but equally worthy of help. And remember, although we are your peers and not professionals, we do care, we will help if we can!

Better tasting [to me] water flavoring
And I like Nestle Splash , good flavit, no calories. We usually have Acai Grape around the house, I can even drink it warm. and usually I demand liquids chilled.

And, although unlikely, you could turn out intolerant to either of these. Start with cheap, before you opt for the more expensive milks, okay?

Pre Surgery Jitters
All minor, but that said, we all have a thing or 2 that does bother you! I thought they might laugh at me being so old, I missed my cats because my son basically "roomed in" with me, but my biggest? That my surgeon would change his mind at the last minute and WOULD NOT perform my surgery. And to me that was a date 10 times worse than death. And no, I never feared dying on the table, which at 72 I easily could have. I knew my surgeon would not let THAT happen, it would ruin his Perfect Record as well as screw up my life as well as my son's. And he also believed implictedly in Dr Needleman, so much that he is considering Bariatric Surgery for himself!
