It's a great feeling...
Same here. My therapist insists it has nothing to do with my weight loss, it's any additional confidence I have because of the weight loss, blah blah blah. I disagree with her vehemently. More people talk to me and, more importantly, they don't condescend to me.

How long did you wait before dating again?
I'm not single, but I would say that by 6 months out your eating should be mostly stabilized, and you should be able to buy some nicer clothes you can wear on your dates (without worrying about them being too big on you very shortly). As for drinking, I drank my face off last weekend, and it went about the same as it would have prior to the surgery (with the added bonus that I had a lot more energy and wasn't yawning by 10 pm).

Tespo Vitamin dispenser
Did you check with your surgeon and/or nutritionist? Mine wouldn’t let me do the patches, and part of the issue was that the vitamins were dispensed once a day instead of throughout the day, and some (such as calcium) can’t be absorbed in one sitting. Once a month sounds far too good to be true.

So Dramatic...
My wife started crying when I was being prepped for surgery. In her defense, she was 3 months pregnant at the time. The nurse handled it very well and got her to laugh. Eating a quarter of a doughnut less than a week post-op and throwing it back up. Not my drama, but one of my neighbors in the hospital had a blood sugar reading of 350 and they found an empty Coke can in their room. I heard the nurses talking about it.

For those who had temporary "buyers remorse"
Yes. It lasted from a few weeks after surgery until I started seeing real results.

I Want a Cheese Enchilada.
One thing I’ve noticed is that I can have half of anything. Half a hot dog, half a McDonalds breakfast sandwich, etc. etc. So, one day, at minimum, you’ll be able to have half an enchilada.

On the Subject of New Clothes....
I’ve been reluctant to buy clothing because I’m sick to death of having to buy smaller ones! But I have been lately because a) I have no winter clothing in my current size and b) I’m about to return to work from parental leave. I find it annoying that I need to try clothing on because I need to be mindful of how it fits (as opposed to before, when clothing was just something that covered my body and needed to be as shapeless as possible). Which means less shopping online and more shopping in stores.

Relationship issues after surgery
I highly recommend anyone who has the surgery obtains talk therapy, relationship or no relationship. You won’t know who you are any more, and you can’t work through that feeling on your own.

Insurance question
BCBS has shorter preauthorization times for everything, honestly. I needed preauthorization for a dental device to treat my sleep apnea as an alternative to a CPAP machine - it should have taken 4 to 6 weeks and it took 10 days.

How soon can i go back to work?
The recommendation was two weeks off work. I was off for a week and worked from home for another week. I do not recommend rushing back to work. If you’re not a twelve-month employee, try to do it during the summer or during a time when you otherwise have two weeks off.

Approx what BMI would waist size stabilize?
I haven't lost any weight since July, but I'm still losing inches off my waist, so I wouldn't go by BMI. I've also noticed that I'm a size 38 in Lucky jeans, a size 40 in Wrangler cargo pants, a size 42 in Old Navy cargo short, etc., etc. I don't know if this was the case prior to surgery, or if I just didn't care.

Taking Multiple Pills Post Surgery
At this point I can take 7-10 pills at a time with no issues. They range in size from my fish oil capsule (huge) to my Cozaar pill (tiny).

Mary Jane is Legal Where I Live
That’s why I’m really concerned about using MJ post-surgery. Although I’ve noticed that I don’t puke after overeating now. When I was a regular MJ user, I did find it helped with occasional nausea (say, after food poisoning), but I never had chronic nausea. I also highly doubt that’s how your surgeon wants you treating it.

Opinions on Aria scale-Looking for a good digital scale!
I’ve had the Aria for a few years and I’m happy with it.

Ups and downs...
Yes, it’s normal. What I’ve found happens is that I’ll hover around a particular number, and then one day I’ll start hovering around a number 5 pounds below that. If my Fitbit Aria is to be believed, my body fat percentage is down about 15 percentage points since the surgery.

Am I weird or is it just me
It’s a marathon, not a sprint. And if you’re not losing weight fast enough, your surgeon’s office or dietitian will tell you. Whenever I thought I wasn’t, either of the two would tell me everything looked great.

What have you been putting off?
Skydiving, ride roller coasters. When we go to Wisconsin Dells next month, I’ll be able to zipline. Kayaking on the Chicago River. When we fly to England next year, I’ll be able to sit in the middle seat next to my wife comfortably and pass our son back and forth. When we go to the beach next summer, I won’t need an enormous reinforced beach chair.

- Questions about your experience with the Sleeve
Regarding 4, if you’re looking for a hard number, at 4 months out, I watched my brother-in-law (who has weight issues of his own) load a dinner plate with pizza and wings and I thought “I don’t miss eating like that.” That was the first time I had that thought post-surgery.- Questions about your experience with the Sleeve
1. My surgeon doesn’t do the lap band and he said I wasn’t big enough to need the duodenal switch, which left me with the sleeve or gastric bypass. Reasons for not doing RNY: Didn’t want to have to give up any foods entirely. Didn’t like the idea of having my insides rearranged. My mom has Crohn’s disease and the surgeon said the sleeve is better if that ever presents itself in me. 2. No 3. Rice. My favorite meal before surgery was 10 boneless wings and 3 or 4 breadsticks from a local pizzeria - I can eat 5 boneless wings and 0 breadsticks now. Everything else is fine. 4. When my son was being born and I could sleep in the room with my wife and, later, my son, on the couch in the room, comfortably. To a lesser extent, the first time I flew on an airplane, in coach, without encroaching on my neighbor. And, next spring, when we all go to visit my wife’s family in England and I fit everywhere we go (it is not a country that is meant for big-boned people). 5. Measuring obsessively, eating protein first, drinking water.- Your Feet & Shoe Size ?
I have a a pair of shoes that used to be too small (they would pinch at the toes’ joints with the feet when I took a step) and now they fit great. BOY, was I surprised, I said “MAN, it’s nice to have an extra pair of shoes to wear when I go outside to get the MALE.” - Questions about your experience with the Sleeve
