GeTnBackuP reacted to Introversion in Vet Search
Since this forum regards those with 1+ years of experience as 'vets,' I am considered one since I am 2.5 years out.
Nonetheless, I am leery about posting in this forum because many people are not truly seeking advice. Rather, they are fishing for validation of their poor decisions. Examples include:
Snacking on nutritionally bereft junk before they hit goal (chips, Cookies, popcorn) Rigid thought processes (e.g., dichotomous thinking, "always" or "never ever again") Getting "back on track" after a massive regain without addressing the root cause. You can lose a 50-lb regain, but you'll regain it all plus more once the next crisis hits since you never addressed your emotional overeating tendencies. Losing a regain without tackling the root cause is like taking pain pills to treat a brain tumor: both tactics help the symptoms and ignore the cause. So, to avoid being shouted down by those who only want feedback that fits neatly into their worldviews, I post in other forums.

Wow I can’t believe the lack of Vet topics we have in this part of the forum. My Husband and I will be 4years VSG next weekend. When I first started researching VSG for us this was my bible. The amount of Vets that had so much good advice and were willing to share it freely. I know we all get on with our lives but I also know that we each have our own struggles and concerns.
Let’s try to be there for each other and make sure those that do pop in or comeback know that we want to help and that we appreciate them sharing their experiences.

Update: I live in Sonoma County and, as many of you know, we are experiencing devastating fires here and in surrounding counties. My surgery is scheduled for 10/17 and I’m not positive it will happen. It turns out I am not sick but my sore throat was from the smoke I hadn’t even known about yet. Prayers out to all affected by this f***ed up sh** and hopes maybe to a surgery next week...[emoji15][emoji15]

Most hospital bariatric programs have counselors, take advantage of that - you have the money. There are many problems regarding relationships that you have had that are definitely about self esteem. You have to like yourself and be the real you - not the reactionary you - which is how you are presenting by the venting you have posted.
The boards are here for all that support when you need to vent, but we can't fix it for you.
I think you know what to do.
I am 5'2" and weigh 222 and surgery is in two weeks.

So, a few things, in no particular order -
Your BMI based upon height and weight is generally one of the most significant criteria. So if you weigh 210 and are 5'2" - your BMI would be 38.4, which would qualify under most insurance policies. (Generally over 35 will get you covered if you have coverage in your plan for bariatric surgery). But if you are 5'7 - that makes your BMI 32.9 which might be too low for surgery - so knowing your BMI and what your insurance plans requirements are is the biggest factor.
Second - losing weight is not going to change how your father or your mother in law treat you. Losing weight is not about changing them, its about making changes for you. Your father's comments and anger will still be directed at you. Your mother in law will still treat you the way she does because your husband has never stepped up and told her that she cannot treat his wife like that. (I was married to a guy like that - we got divorced. Easiest 160 pounds I ever lost.)
Your relationship with your husband appears to have issues that have nothing to do with your weight. It sounds to me like you have a lot of work to do on yourself. From what I am reading, it appears you have some self-esteem issues which need to be worked out and bariatric surgery isn't going to fix those.
You have to go into this for the right reasons - and part of that is getting your head right about why you were overweight to begin with. Then you need to drill down and do the hard work on yourself.
I had VSG one year ago. I now weight less than when my husband married me. Am I thinking of leaving him? Absolutely not. Why? Because I love him and he loves me and we work on our relationship every day. I have my own work I need to do - I still see myself as the fat girl I once was.
Please find a counselor to work on yourself before you head toward surgery. If your head isn't in the right place, it will not work. It's not magic. It is a tool which requires commitment for the rest of your life.
I wish you luck and peace.

Crazy, that happened so fast, I got approved in 3 days and scheduled for the following month. I was just praying for a date before December 31st so my OOP didn't start all over again. It doesn't seem real and I feel like I forgot everything I've been studying about the last six months and have a gazillion questions again LOL
I think I was authorized for 1 day in the hospital. Seriously, is that possible, one day? I go in at 5am for check in, paperwork and surgery. Then recovery, an overnight and then they ship me out? I had my gall bladder out last November and was in for three days.
Is it really that fast and in and out? It kind of freaks me out that most of my stomach is going to get cut out but they're sending me off on my drugged up merry way so soon ??!!

I'm sorry this is happening to you. You don't deserve it. When people verbally attack you, have you considered attacking back? What if you said something like, "By saying what you're saying, you're hurting me. You're making this worse." Make them understand their words have an impact.
I enjoy confrontation & recognize this approach isn't for everyone. Good luck!

My doc doesn’t require a pre op diet but he did tell me to lose 10-15 pounds last month. I don’t know if that was to actually lose or to see if I was committed enough. I did the liquid diet and lost 13.5 pounds and gained two back. He’s fine with it all and well surgery is in NINE days girl. We got this

I did the Bariatric Fusion liver reduction diet. I had a few roasted chick and broccoli cheat days mixed in. Lots of broth, Jello and tropical popsicles, black coffee. I struggled some but after a few days I did fine, I think mind and body just got used to it. I think it’s a good idea to prepare ourselves mentally for what is to come.

After reading all of the horror stories about our tastebuds changing I thought holy cow, what if I end up hating these things post op!!!! Yikes!!! Hang in there, hopefully it’ll get better for you...gotta get that Protein in!!!

GeTnBackuP reacted to TheNewMrsR in Anyone with a low BMI (30-33) had sleeve surgery or will be?
This right here! Nearly identical to my story. My lap band was removed in Feb 2017 after I had it 8 years. My revision to sleeve is on Nov. 1, 2017. My BMI got down to 27 the first 2 years with the lap band but due to many issues including one surgery to repair it 5 years ago my weight crept up about a 10-14 pounds a year. My BMI is now about 37ish. A lot of people would look at me and think I should not need something as drastic as WLS but I don't want to go back to what I was. I have tried everything and just can't do it on my own. Good luck on your journey!

You will be able to eat, that is a wls myth.
I enjoy a wide variety of foods, I am also not happy because I was not prepared for the realization that this was just a 6 month head start. My healing went too well. I wanted it to be hard, I wanted to be able to go all day without being hungry, I wanted to be disgusted by the sight of food, I wanted to be 9 month out and still only able to get 2oz. down. None of that happened for me, my long term success is now 100% related to my relationship with food.
That is what we all need to focus on before, and during the honeymoon phase.
    Good luck on your surgery!
