I had an easier recovery with RNY vs VSG as well but did experience stricture (easily resolved) early on. GERD was resolved almost immediately. Not much hair loss but that’s really individual based. Constipation is always a concern but that’s what stool softeners are for and fully expect to need assistance with that long term. It’s been 4 yrs since revision (6 since VSG) and once you get into a routine life feels really normal.

I thought I was the only one who loves very dark chocolate!

My moment was being diagnosed with a rare ish condition that was mainly caused by obesity. After a week of painful tests, I began to research and came up with the list of options for my condition (I still have the digital sticky note). Bariactric surgery was the most unexpected and appealing option. It honestly wasn’t even on my radar. I think I really decided the moment I wrote it down but I went to the consultations with the other specialist to confirm what I really wanted.

I had a rough recovery from VSG (a solid 2 weeks of strong pain) and the revision was much easier (maybe 3 days of mild pain) Honestly the only thing I remember being harder was bathroom issues (constipation/frequent urination) immediately post op.

Homemade Pancakes. I only had 1 which is 1/6th the calories tracked This is my first time using Greek yogurt in pancakes and I think this is my favorite way to make them. I remember being a child and watching my brother make pancakes from scratch for everyone and now understanding it’s a labor of love (because it’s easier to buy frozen) but getting the “these are amazing” comments are priceless. Now if could only get everyone to enjoy kale salad with me… Doubtful

When I was being converted from VSG to RNY my surgeon said I had a lot of scar tissue. It caused the surgery time to be extended but he said he took his time and got it all. It didn’t impact the quality of my WLS just added extra time in the OR.
