WHY are people voting for McCain?
People have been predicting the end of the world for centuries...and we are still here. I'm sure there will be many people with their sandwich boards wondering around dazed yelling "The end is near!" I just don't understand people who are arrogant enough to assume they can predict the end of the world, or translate verses written thousand of years ago and say they know exactly what God meant. I have heard the word "anti christ" thrown around down here. I heard that about Bill Clinton too, when I was 11. In fact. My southern baptist preacher of a principal made the entire school get down on their knees so he could pray over the intercom that Clinton wouldn't win. Guess what. He did. Guess what? The world didn't end. I think, once again, it is arrogant even if you DO believe that their is an anti christ to assume he comes from America. I for one am excited that Obama won, because he was the closer canidate to my own beliefs. I do like McCain, and if he would have won, you wouldn't have seen me predicting the end of it all. Then again I would never assume I was qualified to do that. Eight years ago I would have voted for McCain, but he let his campaign managers ruin him, and then he picked Palin *shudder* You do have to admit that the first Non white president is a big deal, whether you like him or not. I think if you can't celebrate the president, I'm glad people can celebrate that one hurdle has been passed for America and now doors will be opened. There are many more hurdles in the way. But I am happy I am alive, old enough to vote, and able to witness this historic moment. I don't think that McCain would have won no matter what color he was, I think too many people were angry at the Republican party. I think McCain could have been a good president, especially eight years ago. I wish that he would have won that primary, not Bush...then again you can't blame that on me, I wasn't allowed to vote in that primary. Go America!

Is anyone else freaking out about prop 8
It's passing. It's not official, but it looks really bad. It's tragic. Honestly, it won in Florida...I expected it too, really. But In california? I don't mind the voting, I really don't. It's the lies and propaganda that the prop hate people used. I am a little heart broken today. I'm sitting at work, trying to be positive, but losing CA like that is a big blow for equality. I have been watching the prop 8 commercials yes and no for a month now everyday. My gf kept telling to just stop watching them but I couldn't. I knew that Prop 8's commercials using logic and equality, were not a match for the tactics the Prop 8 people were using. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcMPaH21d2w]YouTube - Vote Yes On Prop 8...that's a rap![/ame] Using there children to spread this nonsense. It just makes me sick, and all their lies, it's worked prop 8 is going to pass and I have to stop typing now or I'm going to cry.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
So.....if the sociologists use the terms pansexual / bisexual synonymously, what group of people favor the term "pansexual"? Well...There are two genders, and some don't fit in either. It's complicated. So pretty much I just accept whatever someone wants to call themselves (if they feel the need to label at all) Some people are really neither male or female, and sometimes that extends to people that beyond transgenders...it's actually a really big spectrum. And really hard to explain if you haven't seen it. I don't even know where to begin. A bisexual goes usually would go for a man or a woman...a pansexual goes for a maybe a man, maybe a woman, maybe all the things in between. Patty, I appreciate the apology. The thing is I don't believe it is a sin. So while I appreciate your tolerance. Saying God would hate the sin and not the sinner still bothers me. But, I would rather have a dissaproving tolerance than someone throwing stones at me and calling me a pervert, so for now I'll take it. I don't personally believe in the literal translation of the bible. I believe many things were put inside that book to encourage population growth to make a stronger country. I have had too many history classes to believe that men have had no control over what was placed in the bible. I am who I am. Being gay is not a choice, but for whoever thinks that, well...You have never had to come out, you have never had to struggle with the choice of living miserable and dishonest, or coming to terms and accepting yourself then struggling to get your family and friends to accept you too. ...and your not gay. How would you really know what it's like? You can't. So I don't expect you to understand and I forgive you. Your wrong...but I forgive you, and God does too. It's okay to be wrong. I guess that's my own version of dissaproving tolerance. Once again, thanks for apologizing that you offended. I know that people don't know the harm they cause with statements like that.

Brand new here and really angered by...
They voted on gay marriage 8 years ago and it was voted against, but four judges overruled it. Public opinion has changed alot since then and now it is about 50/50. 8 years ago it was not. I really don't mind the voting. It's the changing of the constitution that really gets me, because the reason it was overturned was "baning" marriage for anyone was found unconstitutional according to california's constitution...so now they want to change the constitution. Honestly, for my interest. I would like a federal ban on federal bans against anyone getting married. But, since I don't want federal bans against anyone getting married I guess the government should GTFO of the marriage business or let it be determined by the state. The thing is most of the money and even the movement where started by out of state interest groups. They focused on california because of the overturning so they want to scream oppression. Straight, white, people screaming about oppression. My favorite.

I haven't seen the banners but... Proposition 8 is something that a these mormons (that don't live in california) somehow sneaked on the presidential ballet to reverse the decision to allow Gay marriage in california. The thing is they are not just reversing the decision, they are changing the constitution of california to define marriage as being only between a man and a woman. They were basically ignored at first so it grew rapidly because noone believed it would fly in CA. Well they got Massive Massive donations from churches and business out of state and the movement spread. I do mean massive amounts of money. They are using deceiving misleading tactics, and commercial ads. Signs that just say things such as Proposition 8 = Free Speech Protect your family vote yes on 8 Or the ones that do admit that it is about gay marriage insist that if gay marriage is allowed it will be taught in school. That churches who refuse to marry a gay couple will lose be sued or lose government funding, again, not true. It's really sad. I have been watching it with horror. It is such a huge step backwards led by people who don't even live in the state.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
A lot of conspiracy minded people would not, I imagine. I like the idea too. Obviously what we have been doing doesn't work that great.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
I kind of don't hate McCain. I think he would be a much much better president than our previous one, at least. He's still not getting my vote, but... I liked him better five years ago. What do you not like about him? Just curious.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
This is me hugging you (((susan))) Beth. I feel very strongly about this issue, obviously. Having so much personal experience of the pain that even seemingly non malicous comments that can be made. I think I just wanted people to know that they do hurt people. What she said offended me, but I'm used to it...I did get through my coming out. It is the people who live their whole lives miserable because they can't stand who they are because of the things they have been taught, and the boy who kills himself because he can't deal with the fact that he is gay when his church teaches him he is evil and will burn in hell, I get upset because of the drug and alcohol use in the gay community- especially in the south- because they are taught to hate themselves. That God hates them. I know that I came across harsh, but you can't be nice about things like that. Or at least I can't about this particular issue. It's too dear to me.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
That is a really hard situation to be in JWRN. I am sure he is so thankful for you being there for him when he needed you. I know how difficult that situation can be, for you, your brother, and your parents. I'm glad you all made it through. Some people never really recover. Have you ever read "Prayers for Bobby" ? It's heart breaking...but for me, it was life changing.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
I don't follow you. Not being rude, Just not seeing why he would burn his bible. I've never burned a bible either. I own one. Doesn't mean I believe everything in it, but I think that might be another discussion.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
I am very familar with the verses. The bible has many such things in it that make no sense. I don't think anyone has done as much research in this subject as someone who grew up southern baptist, in louisiana, from a very conservative family, and who also happens to be gay. I have read the bible many times over and found a lot of things not to do, that are common today. I won't take anyone down that road, it was mine. But I did struggle, a lot. I shouldn't have. It was society I was struggling against. I am who I am. I am God's child. I am comfortable with that. now. But hearing things like the comments she made while I was growing up is what made life so hard coming into terms with myself. I don't wish that on anyone, and I will stop it from happening to all the younger people that are like me.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
She didn't direct them at one person, she made a offensive (very very very offensive) statement towards many people. It was a bigoted statement, and I called it out. I didn't insult her intelligence. You can be smart and ignorant. I have a right to stand up for myself. I have to stand up to the discrimination so that people know that those outdated, wrong ideas are hurting people. Not just the gays that some people are so against, but they are spreading the ignorance and hatred and that needs to be stopped. How would you feel if your brother read those statements? How would you feel if someone called your brother an abomination. I hope you wouldn't condon that. I am sure you woudn't. I was raised southern baptist by a very conservative family. Background is a factor, but not an excuse, nor is it a reason to deny someone their rights. This hate doesn't need to be taught or spread.
-
WHY are people voting for McCain?
She called me an abomination. This is not about right or left. This is about treating people with basic human dignity. What she said was ignorant. Is she ignorant, I don't know her so I can't say, but that comment was pure bigotry and/or ignorance.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
FURTHER MORE!!! I did not "PICK" to be who I am. I do not choose anything but to accept myself and love myself and do no harm to others. I treat people fairly, I donate to charities, I gave up my time and my little bit of money to the shelters during both Katrina and Gustav. I care deeply for everyone around me. I haven't failed at anything in life. I have a wonderful family, an amazing, intelligent partner, I am an English Major (obviously I take more time with my grammer and spelling at school), I paint, I sing. I am proud of who I am and what I have accomplished in life. Infact I only have two problems....1. Weight, and 2. Prejudice, ignorant people I'm taking care of one now, and the other will have to take care of themselves.

WHY are people voting for McCain?
I think anyone who believes the crap that you just typed is a bigot. Or maybe just uneducated, if I felt like being nice. Whether I agree or disagree with abortion, I have great respect for anti choice people. I understand that in your minds, you are protecting someone. I have made it very clear that while I may not agree with making abortion illegal, I respect beliefs. Gadgetlady especially really believes what she is saying and I think it comes from a good place inside her heart. It's the homosexual comment that makes you look like a fool. You take the two vague bible verses on homosexuality from a book that has been corrupted so many human hands that it is almost unrecognizable and use it to spread your hate on society. That statement you have made shows your true colors. I can ignore this crap, usually. I do often, because I live in a country where someone is allowed to hate. I am allowed to love (not get married though, because that would corrupt marriage right? Like straight people that have been married twelve times keep it sacred? OR Las Vegas drive through weddings. No it's the gays that will destroy marriage)...but not right now when Proposition hate or 8 if you will is corrupting this important election. Get off my back, our backs, and mind your own business. Tell me how me having sex, me getting married is hurting you. Look, I won't even accidently get pregnant so that you can taunt me if I couldn't take care of the baby and call me a "Murderer" and such. I am the ultimate safe sex. I know who I am, and I am not a abomination. I know my own relationship with God and I am happy and content. I wish people like the ones who take the time to call others an abomination and the ones that start hate filled things like proposition 8 would maybe work on being a little happier too, so they could stop trying to spread their misery on people who aren't hurting them by living there life the way God made them. And Keep your personal beliefs off and out of my body, thank you very much.

Givin' up the ice cream
I had icecream yesterday. Just one serving and I didn't want anymore afterwards...but then. I didn't feel too bad. I didn't really feel guilty. It was like a treat and then I put the rest up.

It's a dreary Monday morning - let's chat
Well I got a few trick or treaters, I dressed up. Then we left and went to a bar and had two drinks (Me and my little sister did, Marcie drove) then we went home and watched scary movies til we passed out. Saturday we went walking and made a great salad. Sunday we went walking around the board walk and ate sushi. I'm obsessed with sushi now. I also spent too much money this weekend. I like to shop too much.
