  1. Hello welcome, I am from Philly too, born and raised, now livinn in delaware. I have had my band for over 5 monhs and have lost 55 pounds. I am considered a low bmi bander. I made the best decision of my life. I had no problem losing weight, just keeping it off. I lost 80 punds on Atkins 2 years ago. There are some really good doctors in Philly. I met a coupe on my journey, but for insurance reasons had surgery in Delaware With CHRIAS. One doctor I met worked out of Fitzgerald Mercy in darby, he was really good and thorough. You can find a list of doctors on lapband.com. I am a nurse and I just recently did a research paper on weight loss surgery and Type 2 diabetes, in oner 90% of cases, type 2 diabetes goes into remission. Good luck on your decision.
  2. Hello welcome you will learn so much here that the doctors dont tell you
  3. Onederland!!!!I did it after 5 months and 3 fills. I am now officially under 200 hundred pound!!!!!!
  4. Im a nurse and we usually open the capsule and sprinkle it on applesauce for the patients who have trouble swallowing. If its time released ask your Doc if its ok
  5. I try to keep it low carb, atkins southbeach etc. this really works for me. I am a junk food junkie too. I try to give myself treats to reward myself. If you continue eating it your weight loss will be slowed. Its so hard to give up these things, but I had to tell my self that i didnt go through surgery to keep eating those things. for breakfast i usually eat a scrambled egg and 2 turkey link sausages, lunch 2 pieces of turkey breast lunch meat and a 1/2 slice of cheese, and dineer a piece of protein and some veggies.
  6. shes probaly lying, they usually are.
  7. i am so happy to read this. I lost over 80 pounds on low carb but of course i gained it back. i have lost 50 pound thanks to my band and low carbs. Whem I let my band control portions my weight loss slows to about 2 pounds a week. I only have 4.lbs to onederland and I hope I make it by Monday. Low carb is the way to go!
  8. large blizzard from dairyqueen, now can only eat 1/4 of it
  9. take some saltine crackers, you can eat them in the mushie stage, ans now i eat sunflower seeds when everybody else is snacking
  10. Because I want to get my sexxxxy back!
  11. crackers saved my life, when I were so hungry and needed something to chew. My nutrionist gave me the suggestion
  12. FIRST go get your fills. Without them its going to be a struggle, if you have a tire without air its not going to work properly. Maybe you can see a nutrionist it has to be one closer than your doctor. My nutrionist works alongside the wls doctors and know so much about lapband and gastric. They also usually have more time to sit and talk over food concerns. You have your tool, so use it.
  13. thanks i have been at stand still going to the store now
  14. I am a mother of 6, so I know what you mean. I didnt get fat until my 5.th child 7 years ago, my oldest is 21. what I love about the lapband is that yes you may be able to lose the weight. But I dont put it back on. In the past I did lose easily, but after a binge or a bad weekend the 5 pounds were back on. We all have second thoughts, but as heart disease runs in my family, I didnt want my youngest children not to have a mom.
  15. Try to cut back on carbs and eat lean protein, bajed chicken and vegetables works for me. We all have fell off dont beat yourself up
  16. I am a mother of 6, and after surgery for a day or two they all had to help. I have a 7 and 11 also. Im sure the 11 year old can heat up some pre-cooked meals in the microwave for a day or two if you pre-cook them. If you are pre-diabetes then you need to help yourself. men sometimes are reluctant because of fear, such as if you dont make it out of surgery, or they may believe that you wil leave them when you get skinny. Do what you have to do for you. If you are not healthy who is going to take care of your children? Do it for yourself not how tour husband may feel.
  17. I have a realize band, this is my third fill in 4 months. I started feeling some restriction at my second. I now have my third fill and i am eating so much less. Chicken is really hard for me sometimes, but i now can actually see how the lap band is supposed to work.
  18. alot of people look at fat people as lazy. I had never been over weight, i am the mother of 6 children. After there births I just went back down to 140-150 pounds. When I had my daughter at the age of 30 I gained so much weight and could not lose it. I had never been overweight my whole adult life, but now I am. I have lost 40 pounds in 2 months and I am never looking back. Do what is best for you and dont worry. When I started my lap band journey I was in nursing school. I had my whole class telling me not to do it, so talk about pressure. I made my own!!!! decision and am now living with a lapband.
  19. I would not worry about it because if it were just about being lazy or not, why is he even big now? do what you are supposed to do. mark my words he will come back later and ask questions about the lap band. friends who told me I didnt need it, now are interested since I am losing weight.
  20. When I first got my surgery 3 months ago I would wake up like 2 or 3 a.m. so hungry. I would have 2 drink some milk or protein drink. I would feel so famished as if all my food was used up. I started drinking a protein drink before I went to bed. It finally went away, Maybe you can talk to the nutrtionist that saw you before surgery. Mine is right next door to my doctor and is always helpful about food choices, pb, constipation issues or whatever.
