Are We ready for a Black President?
Nope. Doesn't work. Conservatives (by that I mean, uh, me) only care about out-of-wedlock births when the tax dollar has to support the mother/ child. Having said that, I'm not jazzed about Palin as a VP pick. Personally, I think McCain just threw away the election. I'd have loved to see Romney (with his strength in economics and business) or somebody with impressive energy credentials. PS- I'm a free thinker, registered independant who doesn't swallow whole what Obama is saying, either. The election just got a whole lot more "lesser of two evils" for me. I think I'm still voting energy.

Oh, you'd like to know that, wouldn't you, Mac.....Well I'm not telling. It's what makes me a dark mysterious type.

Are We ready for a Black President?
Oh, I'm not ruling out McCain or the republicans yet. Here is the heart of the matter, BJean (IMO)...Wealth didn't draw me to the Republican party (heck, I'm a registered independent), although I have voted republican 3 of the last 5 elections. To me, it's the basic theory of government. Republicans generally believe in less federal government and more states' rights (Democrats the opposite). Because republicans generally believe in less government regulation, some wealthy business types that benefit from less regulation support them. That (and certain economic theories, ie trickle down) have led to the perception that the republican party is for "the rich". By and large, the democrats want to support a lot of worthwhile populations and programs. That's fantastic....but they (generally) want to raise taxes to pay for these programs. Example (an extreme one, I'll concede): I'm a little reluctant to think that my tax dollars in Texas might go to pay for a sex change operation for some dude in California. Note I'm not saying that I don't want the dude to get the operation....I'm saying I don't want to pay for it. Now if the citizens of California vote to pay for such a surgery for their citizens, I'm cool with that. I believe that the less power and intrusion the government has into our lives, the better (in theory, I'm really more of a libertarian, but our current two party system has killed every other ideaology). Having said that, I might very well vote democrat. I haven't decided yet. If I do vote democrat, it won't be because I'm not rich, or because I have a grudge against Bush or his administration, but because we desperately need to bite the bullet now and change our dependence on foreign oil by 10 years time. Sorry for the novel-length post...can you tell I'm a bit bored at work? lol

Strange Question
Probably. A lot of what you'll be able to eat varies from person to person. I myself can eat almost anything, as long as I take teeny tiny bites and eat slowly....Having said that, doughy foods are the most likely to give me problems. Only through trial and error will you be able to find out what you can and cannot tolerate. Just pick healthier foods, take small bites, eat slowly, don't drink with meals, and quit eating when you are no longer hungry...these are the "golden rules" of the lapband.

Update to my previous post: Because I'm an IMDB nerd, I looked up some info...First, I misspelled. The show (and character's name) was Enos, not Ennis. Second, the catchphrase was "Grits and greens ride again". Sadly, I am the loser you think I am.

Are We ready for a Black President?
Wow.....although I remain independant, I will say that Obama gave a fantastic speech. He really knocked it out of the park. I liked his aggressive energy stance, and that's the key issue for me (since I believe that energy has led directly to the downturn of the economy).

Ah yes, but were you hard core enough to watch Ennis' spin off TV show? I was. I don't remember the name of the show, but I do remember the "soundbyte" was grits and greens or something like that. Ennis was magically transformed from an idiot bumpkin that wrecked around 1200 squad cars to a skillfully-driving cop that solved every case every week with the help of his partner....that leaves me to conclude that either 1) Roscoe was holding Ennis back, or 2) Daisy had waaaaaay more of an effect on Ennis than I originally thought.

OMG.......I'd forgotten all about Lulu......Leslie, do you remember offhand the names of the "cousins" that replaced Bo and Luke? I can't remember. I could always IMDB it, but.....I'm pretty lazy.

Did an older kid get to play "Uncle Jesse"? I think it'd be awesome to have a kid pretend to be a moonshiner.

This has been done to death
I guess what leaves me aghast is the confessional tone of these types of posts: Hi, I feel awful and really guilty. I was banded 8.15.08 and my doc has me on mushies. Well tonight I did something terrible. I killed a man. With a trident. Then I quickly left the scene after planting false evidence that would make it look as though my mom did the killing. Anybody else go through something like this?

Why? I personally like these pictures. To me, it serves to humanize the folks that post here. I think that's why we all have the ability to "personalize" our posts, via avatars and signatures.

Eh, I don't want that show to filmed. I want the show where the violent felons are placed in the desert to fight it out Road Warrior style. That's what I want to see....wholesome entertainment.

And if it could be filmed, it would make the greatest. reality show. television. program. ever.

I think maybe y'all are confusing the "before and after" pics thread in the general area with the "photo" tab at the top of the page. The photo section is just that....photos. Some people want to show off family, pets, whatever. Now if you want to look exclusively at inspirational "before and after" photos, on the main page there is a section called "general laband surgery discussion". Enter there and you'll see the "Before & After" pic thread. I have yet to see pets and kids much in that thread.
