  1. i don't even drink a lot of soda or beer...but i find myself thinking, should i have a beer before i can't? i know i'm crazy...i didn't get this big without a few compulsions though...
  2. what foods are you choosing to eat before surgery that they have said you can't have after sugery? anybody planning on a special last supper kinda thing before pre-op diet? i have many ideas running thru my head...thinking about a big ribeye, corn on the cob, pineapple...etc...but have not planned anything yet...but i have to hurry and decide, cause i go on my 10 day clear liquid preop diet sept 1st....or am i weird, and nobody else is pondering on such a thing?
  3. i have to start my pre-op diet september 1st...a guy i work with went to the same doc and told me the pre-op diet...(i get the packet monday) consisted of clear liquids and cottage cheese....10 days before surgery, then liquids 3 weeks after surgery...he said that after a few days of clear liquids, cottage cheese tastes sooo good...i am dreading it because, i just don't want to mess it up...
  4. oh wow, you are right there at the final countdown...i am excited for you!
  5. i have those same fears...plus i keep putting myself down...like for example: i have defended the many reasons i can't lose weight to so many people for so many years...now i find myself having to defend me to me....and i too worry what a failure i will be if this doesn't work....or what if i only lose 20 pounds in a year??? but then i just have to have faith...hope i wasn't too negative or too honest about my feelings...it comes and goes... surgery september 11th
  6. i am excited but terrified at the same time...if i did not have diabetes, high blood pressure, pcos, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea...i don't know if i would do it...meaning i have been fat all my life, but i want to be healthy so badly...tired of watching life from the sidelines...and i think it's also good for people who don't have all of the comorbidities, yet... as a tool of prevention...but for me personally i am only doing this to hopefully get rid of health probs and hopefully get pregnant...have infertility issues as well that i am hoping losing the weight will cure...having a lot of emotional issues and questions popping up, so this is going to be quite the journey...
  7. i am having surgery september 11th...going back to work october 9th...i was so glad they are letting me off the whole month...i am having hiatal hernia repair as well...don't know how bad that is, but i am a nurse, and i was scared with all the walking and pulling, and lifting that it would make the port area hurt...but i will be getting off the liquids right after i go back to work...so i like that...our support group meetings have had a variety of time off...most being shorter time if it's office work and no lifting. high risk jobs, like a prison guard or psych ward, (in case someone hits or kicks them in the belly)...they get 4-6 weeks off...i had a terrible time with my GB surgery...took 3-4 weeks for me to quit hurting...but i went back to work 2 weeks afterwards, so did not want to take a chance...
  8. when i went to my dietary group meeting...they mentioned Vitalady website that had flavored Protein powders that you could buy in samples for $0.99 ea. that you can mix with Water or milk, and they also mentioned the Liquid Protein bullet... i ordered the bullets in 3 flavors, (orange, grape, an blue rasberry)...because they have 45 grams of protein in each one...going to get the flavored powders, ordered chewable, liquid, and sublingual Vitamins, plus have Flinstones...got Calcium and vit D3, vit b complex, and one more i can't remember...also have a whey protein jug, and a powder called greens first to help get my fruit and veges in while i am on liquids...but have gotten nothing else cause they moved my date up...so i have to get busy. i have to be on 10 day liquid preop diet...then stay on liquids 1st 3 weeks, so over a month of liquids for me, that's why i have really focused on stocking up on that stuff 1st...there are so many awesome ideas that i never even thought of, thanks for the ideas..... surgery date september 11 starting weight: 262 current weight: 250 personal goal: 170
  9. started feb 21, with 1st consultation...have had to have EGD, Gallbladder removed, psych evaluation, dietary consult, support group meetings every month, keep a 6 month food journal, 6 month exercise journal, and 6 monthly weigh ins......and finally i got the call yesterday...september 11....johnson city, tn, with dr. hodge...it seemed like it was going to take forever when i started, but having to do all this stuff monthly made it fly by....i am excited, and terrified all at the same time...i don't feel prepared for some reason....well, i would say part of it is the fact that they said it would be mid to end october, and then all of a sudden it's like, less than 3 weeks away...i am also getting a hiatal hernia repair when i have the lapband...anybody know how you feel after one of those? i have no clue...congrats to everyone on their surgery dates.... starting weight: 262 current weight: 250 my personal goal: 170
  10. finally got my date after 6 months of jumping thru insurance hoops...taken by surprise...was told it would probably be end of october...found out today it would be september 11...have excitement...but mostly fear...nervousness...wondering if i can remember everything i am supposed to do and not supposed to do....well anyway, i start my liquid diet sept 1....for 10 days....woohoo! on my way...
  11. i completely agree with you, i just thought this part was a little funny...and i will tell you why...because in todays society, the only people it's politically correct (and i say this with thick sarcasm) to insult are overweight people and poor southerners...so when you say "I am not racist...It's hard for me to believe there are still proud racist out there that have all their teeth and can afford a new car." i have to remind you for someone who can't afford dentures and a new car...that's kind of insulting to suggest they are automatically a proud racist...i know a lot of good folks with no teeth and bad credit that would not say a harsh word against anybody no matter what race they are...but i don't think you meant it that way...just found it amusing...no sarcasm intended...

my mom whipped and spanked...there is a difference...she used her hand, fly swat, and switch to spank...and used the belt to whip...(if it was the switch, we always had to go pick it and bring it to her, longest walk , ever!) the punishment was never immediate (she explained later when we were older) because she never wanted to be mad when we got a whipping...she always cooled off first...and i did live in MS and now TN, so always, the bible belt...i don't feel like i suffered any child abuse whatsoever...i respected my mom and still do. i always felt that my mom had rules and boundaries because she loved me...and my whippings were few and far between...she was consistent with punishment...and only gave it when needed...but i also think that most, not all, kids i see out in public screaming and kicking throwing their temper tantrums, and i am not talking about babies....and teens disrespecting adults, etc., come from 2 things...no spankings or even fear of whippings..and/or that usually both parents are having to work now to survive and so they don't get to spend as much time with their kids so they don't want to be the bad guy and punish the kids or they are too tired to do it...this comes from personal observation with my friends and family that have to work...not saying it is everone...but i do not and will never support gov't telling me how to raise my kids...if they are being abused, that is already illegal, and those people will find a way to abuse their kids whether they ban spanking or not...sorry so long but personal topic... my mom was abused as a child, physically and mentally... there is a huge difference in whippings, and abuse...this subject always reminds me of Bucky Covington's song, A Different World...it descibes how i grew up...and i guess i asscoiate better days with back then and me and all my friends got whippin's...
  13. let me know about the consult...i have not posted in a while either...i had so much wait time...i had my EGD and had my gallbladder out...and July 30 is my actual meeting with the surgeon and last weigh in...i have to have the rest of my paperwork turned in by July 23...then on the 30th Dr. hodge will schedule my surgery...they say it takes about a month to get the insurance on board then they are approx. one month behind scedule so we're probably looking at the end of sept. or first part of oct....so hope everyone is doing well...
  14. woohoo!!! they excused me from jury duty!!! i was so afraid it would make me miss my meetings or appts, causing the insurance co. to make me wiat even longer than the 6 mo, wait... hi leosmom, i loved Dr. Hodge...he was very pleasant and attentive....he is doing my EGD 5/2 and the choley 5/16....i do have the 6 mo.wait and list of requirements to follow thru with so they will allow the surgery...do you have the 6 mo. wait? if u do , you could start your appts maybe get your meetings started or what ever they want you to do during the waiting period....later, nay
  15. hello everybody, well, my 2nd appt was wednesday, 26th...i got to meet the surgeon, Dr. Hodge. the only reason he met with me was to tell me i have a gallstone and have to have my gallbladder removed...i really did not want to hear that...he gave me the choice of doing it before or during the banding...i chose to do it separately just to minimze the risk for infection. so i have to do EGD may 2nd and gallbladder may 16th....now i have another problem...i just got a summons for jury duty!!!!!! i am freaking out a little cause i am worried that they won't excuse me and it will interfere with my surgical procedures or my support group meetings...not to mention all the time i am already going to have to miss from work...my insurance requires these support meetings and weigh ins for 6 months before i can be approved....i sent an email to the jury people about all of the circumstances but have heard nothing back yet....freakin out a little bit...thanks for letting me vent, nay highest-262 250 1st visit 243 2nd visit
  16. hey, if it makes you feel better, i have Dr. Hodge, but i have heard really great things about Dr. W...and he had a month longer waiting list than Hodge....he taught Hodge the procedure from what i understand....now what i have heard also, is that hodge has a better bedside manner...but to each his own....i think you will be fine with either one of those guys....i work with a lot of nurses that have let both doctors perform surgical procedures on them, so heard good about both...hope this helps a little, nay
  17. thanks for all of your answers...my doctor does not do the sleeve, and i don't know if my insurance covers it...if it does i think i would rather do the sleeve, just because of the complications that i have read about...and the idea of something being in me is freakin' me out somewhat....but it may be my only option....but i will be doing some more research and prayin....thanks
  18. and....is the reports based on older models of the lap band? and the newer bands not as likely to cause long term problems? just want someone to explain it to me...thanks
  19. how did you choose between lap band and the gastric sleeve? i was set on the lap band, until i read news reports about the problems people have long term with the band after 5-10 years...now i am worried...can you tell me what was the deciding factor for you? thanks
  20. hey, i have my 1st appt today...i am nervous....but with my insurance i have to weigh in for at least 6 months...i was wondering about the psychologist visit??? i am worried that i will say the wrong thing....does everyone have to go to a seminar? i have seen that on a lot of pages...they don't have any close by where i live....so i will have to travel a little if you have to go....wish me luck, and back at ya....
  21. have my 1st consultation appt with Dr. Michael Hodge in Johnson City, TN on Feb. 18, 2008...just wondering if anyone has dealt with cariten insurance that could give me a time line or what to expect....? thanks, nay ht:5'4" current wt: 262 current size: 20w-pants 22/2XX-shirts
  22. hey, i am from Kingsport, and I am waiting to see Dr. Hodge for my procedure....anything you can tell me will be awesome....i am nervous but feel like with some information i will relax a little...i know my insurance has a minimum 6mo. wait with wt loss before it will proceed, but that is all i know...what did you think of Dr. Hodge? thanks nay
  23. hey, i am new as well...i am still waiting on my consult, so i thought i would do some reading and see what everyone had to say....nay
