  1. Welcome aboard! Look forward to seeing you around the boards:)
  2. Anyone who knows me would tell you I didn't and still do not give a rat's hoo hah what others think of me. It doesn't really matter and as my mother always said to me... "no one walks in your shoes but you" She is right, no one will deal with what I deal with and if anyone wants to be taking my inventory and "checking me" they might want to a take a look at themselves first. This surgery was for me! I love it, I wouldn't change it and I am never more proud than I am when I weigh myself and have the small non scale victories that I do. And honestly if anyone, and I mean anyone had said something negative to me prior to this surgery I would smile sweetly and tell them quite frankly it is none of their business  That being said, do this for you, educate yourself and be confident in the decision you make either way  Blessings to you!
  3. Hi, I suggest calling your Surgeon first and secondly I had something like that happen exactly three weeks after my surgery! I had costochondritis, because it is so hard for me to explain I have included the description below, I thought I was having a heart attack and ended up in the emergency room, but better safe than sorry! Definition Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone (sternum). It causes sharp pain in the costosternal joint — where your ribs and breastbone are joined by rubbery cartilage. Pain caused by costochondritis may mimic that of a heart attack or other heart conditions. Your doctor might refer to costochondritis by other names, including chest wall pain, costosternal syndrome and costosternal chondrodynia. When the pain of costochondritis is accompanied by swelling, it's referred to as Tietze syndrome. Most cases of costochondritis have no apparent cause. In these cases, treatment focuses on easing your pain while you wait for costochondritis to resolve on its own.
  4. I think you did fine, it is not up to us to be anyone's preacher, teacher or keeper - unless they ask and we are willing to be those things to them. I have found in many parts of life that it just isn't up to me to understand everything and it isn't up to me to make sure everyone else understands everything Congratulations on your weight loss, you are obviously working hard and taking good care of yourself! Barbie
  5. Ugh, pre-op was so hard for me but you make it through and it doesn't seem so bad after wards. Good luck to you!
  6. I agree with RestlessMonkey, and you will never be sure until they see you, poke and prod at you :cursing: I understand pain around the port, I had a port revision due to a problem with pain that I had with mine. Barbie
  7. Disclaimer... its my blog, it isn't alway nice and some times I get cranky lol I will not name names, I will not be specific but there is a person who I came across today who is not only nasty and mean but clearly uneducated in regards to the lap band. How dare you criticize others? Where do you get off telling others what they should do? You are not perfect or otherwise would you be here with the rest of us? Would you have a weight problem? Hell no, your fat ass is here with us - get use to it. Plenty of us do the best we can and this site is a god send for us and if you cannot find the good in it get off the forum and don't let the door hit you in the ass. Thank you and I feel better now

  9. Good luck to you :cursing: This site is full of great information and wonderful people who are more than happy to help you :cursing: Welcome! Barbie
  10. Thank you SandieLaw, I ate a bit more today but of course that is because I was trying to lay off the medication. I will set my alarm tomorrow on my computer at work and try to get small amounts in. Take care :tongue2:
  11. Quite frankly I would be a bit ticked off, if she is being insensitive because of her own issues she should keep them to herself - she is not in business of complaining but of the helping profession. :tongue2: now that being said I would be pro- active and frank with her, ask her if there is something going on that she needs to discuss as you are feeling like she is not being supportive and you need her to be - particularly because she is a patient advocate! <--------key word here! If you don't have luck that route then I would consider speaking to someone else who has some clout in the office. I guess this riled me up as I know what a struggle it was get my insurance to pay and what a long hard road it was to get my band - I hate to see anyone in a position that makes them sad or frustrated. Barbie
  12. Hi Lucy! I am glad to see I wasn't alone in the concern of whether the band was in or not after surgery  You and I are quite close for surgery dates, I was banded June 16th. You are doing fabulous on your weight loss! Hope to see you around the boards
  13. Hi there  Call your doctor ASAP! Seriously, I wouldn't even think twice, call and tell him or her what you told us! Let us know what happens and keep in touch! Barbie
  14.:thumbup::thumbup: GloryBee123 that is fantastic! Congratulations to you! Woohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :w00t::cool2::w00t::tt2::w00t::woot:
  15. Good morning and welcome  For me lap band surgery was the best option, I started at 226 lbs and my surgeon didn't feel that gastric bypass would be the ideal surgery for me. Now, I do have an Aunt and her daughter who have both had Gastric Bypass and it was the best surgery for them. I think it really comes down to what you qualify for and what you feel most comfortable with. Good luck on your journey, ask lots of questions as I am always learning new things from the wonderful people on this forum
  16. The only thing that truly scared me and made me worry, was that I wouldn't actually get to have the band, that they would go inside and my liver hadn't shrunk - nothing about actually having the band scared me, not being able to eat the same way didn't bother me in the least. The absolute first thing I asked when I came out surgery was "Did they put my band in" Mind you I was drugged up so it might have been slurred when I asked lol, the nurse couldn't believe that was my first concern ! Barbie
  17. Yes! My email notification has stopped as well - so glad I am not alone! Any answers out there?
  18. thank you Lisa, please keep in touch and let me know what ends up happening! Take care, Barbie
  19. Hi there  I tell everyone and anyone who has asked! It keeps me accountable to be honest - mind you this is just me and it is my nature to share... not everyone feels this way and it is ok! I am honest when asked because I know what it is like to be on the other end and if I can help just one person understand this surgery (particularly if they want to have it and are afraid to ask about it) then I am a better person for it. An example of this is the other night when I was brought to the Emergency Room for my ovarian cyst I had an internal ultra sound done, the woman who did it was pleasant and very quiet (I was doped up on morphine but never quiet lol) she looked at my stomach where my scars are curiously and I blurted out "I had lap band surgery!" Guess what? Her face changed, she smiled and told me she is thinking of having surgery for Lap Band! It was great to see her smile and to hear her questions - I felt like I helped in some small way.
  20. LOL, I have not had any dreams like that but I think I would like to! Great job on your weight loss and go have a bite of cake!
  21. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I had not been told about the hormones messing up my appetite, he did say I would affect my mood of course and I had a very large cyst as well about a year and a half or so ago - when they removed it my emotions were likened to those of someone who was post postpartum! Thank you again, I had only been thinking it was the pain killers and you are right - not having an appetite is clearly not the worst thing lol!

Hi Mr. Blog - I am tired but unable to sleep, drugged up from the meds, my lower pelvic area is still painful from the ovarian cyst - the doctor says "lets wait and see" The last time we waited to see I ended up having emergency surgery. I mean honestly - I got to see the internal ultra sound (twice, once at E.R. and once at surgeons office) and there is a bit of blood leaking, but that stupid cyst just isn't big enough yet to worry about... now I know these guys can seal back up and your body will eventually reabsorb them, but then again what if I have what happened before happen again? Ok, done whining - I guess, it just isn't like me to be whine like this lol, I think the combination of pain killers and the extra hormones from the cyst (it is pushing lots of those out right now) is really affecting my well being

  24. Over and over again I enjoy reading your posts and I think you are very honest and clear when expressing yourself! Also I think you rock and are an inspiration to myself and so many others - so what if you weren't the typical weight loss success story? (you really have defied the average) You have done what many of us can't wait to do and it is great to have you on this board sharing your successes and doling out your tough love! I only hope some day I get asked to speak lol - now that would be a feat!
