  1. My surgeon always does my fills and unfills. I have only been banded 9 months and have had about as many fills/unfills. One time there was another surgeon at the office and they were both busy. The other surgeon came in to give me a fill and my surgeon walked in and asked what he was doing, if he had read my chart, and told him how much to fill.
  2. How many calories with skim milk? Thanks for the info!
  3. Griz Girl, I had the exact same thing happen.........pain, reflux, unable to swallow solids (2 months), difficulty keeping shakes down and then eventually unable to swallow and hold Water. All my symptoms went away when I got unfilled. My doc put about half the fill back in the next week and I'm scheduled to a slight fill on the 14th. I decided to let my poor swollen stoma rest too. It has been a week and I have already put on about 5 lbs but I have to believe some of it is water as I was quite dehydrated. I felt sooooo weak. Thanks for posting cuz I keep wondering if I had a slip. They did the barium swallow/xray and said all was well though.
  4. WOw! I am so sorry to hear about the problems your surgeon has caused. I am also sorry (and somewhat pissed) to hear about how you were treated after your discharge. Where are the ethics???? My prayers are with you as you get your new band or your old one repositioned. I don't understand why the surgery would be high risk now? Did they explain? It isn't considered high risk initially? Keep us posted, ok?
  5. Hey, I had my last fill 3 months ago, lost 30 lbs and then my band tightened up so much I had to go get an unfill. My doc said that this just happens sometimes to some people. Others only lose restriction as they lose weight. I let mine stay too tight until I was in intolerable back pain. Then they had to take all the fill out. Better to get a cc or two out right away. I have put on 5 pounds but it sure feels good to be able to eat and not hurt.
  6. Careful for leg cramps and/or brain fog. I heard from a health instructor that these can happen if one is in ketosis.
  7. A collegue said she had it done before she was at goal and by the time she got to goal she had another mini roll over her scar. She had to have another tummy tuck.
  8. I am proud to say that after 9 months of being banded, I have no desire for brownies or "breaded" stuff. Your friend probably thinks your surgery gave you super will power immediately.
  9. In the 80's I took a health class in college and our instructor told us that being in "ketosis" (little or no carbs) negatively impacts the brain and can give you leg cramps.
  10. My doc said that getting tighter restriction from flying is physically impossible.
  11. Hey there all. As usual I was at work (teaching summer school) and folks I haven't seen for a year commented on my weight loss. Today one teacher's aide told me that her girlfriend had WLS and that her local burn center will pay for tummy tucks if you donate your skin. Kind of weird but I think that even if I have to pay for my TT I'd like to donate my extra skin to burn victims...............I'll investigate it and post my findings in a new thread. Anyone have info???
  12. Ditto..........don't like her, she is arrogant and she may have been better off spending her money on therapy/social skills training instead of weight loss...........okay, maybe both, she sure could afford it. I still think she isn't very "easy on the eyes"...........the surgery did nothing for that big ass head of hers.
  13. Chicken and bread are definitely out for me. Funyuns I can handle and have them once every other week with no problem. Not a good food but when I was having problems they were the only thing I could eat that wasn't sucked through a straw.
  14. Special Ed teacher -------- emotionally challenged teens at a middle school.
  15. I didn't really get any comments from collegues at work until I lost 45-50 pounds. I think sometimes people don't "see it" until you are at a weight "they" approve of. I wondered the same thing------why hasn't anyone noticed? Then I thought "maybe cuz I'm still not at my goal". I don't know. What happened on your vacation would bother me..........I say put up some pics so we can give you feedback.
  16. Dr. Owens is my surgeon and does all my fills/unfills etc. He is awesome and has seen me on emergencies and is always a soft spoken sweetheart!
  17. Hey there, I am in Chula Vista!
  18. scary thought........."we don't know if any of us will have our bands in 20 years"..........so true though. I could never afford a new band once I retire.
  19. This happened to me a few times. My doc gave me a complete unfill and then refilled me a few days later. The last time it happened was last week. I was in intense pain, vomitting up foamy bubbles and unable to keep even water down. Never wait to call your doc if you can't even keep liquids down ----- it will only get worse and you don't need to suffer like that. I got so weak it was hard to even walk across the room.
  20. I sometimes take vicodin and soma for back pain. I chop the pills up quite fine and then swallow them a few pieces at a time.
  21. I tell anyone who asks how I lost weight.
  22. I just type in cambridgediet.com and a website comes up that will give you all the info on the product. I am in the process of becoming a distributor but still have paperwork to do. For first time buyers they have a good deal on 1 months worth of the product. They give an extra can of the powder and also a variety sample of the nutrition bars (if you can have that). I have used it off and on for about 3 years and have been using it religiously since I was banded last Sept.
  23. Cambridge! It is sooo yummy when blended with crushed ice. I even prefer it to a regular milkshake!
