How long after surgery before returning to work?
I had surgery on Wed. afternoon and was back at work on Monday.

Is this just a stage?
Yep. I am about 25 pounds from where I think I want to end up and I have just sort of been "maintaining". For me, my fatness kept me "invisible" and now people at work are constantly talking to me about the weight loss. I appreciate it and know they are just being supportive but there is a part of me that wants to run and hide behind something. Like a timid bunny although to know me, one would never picture me that way. Interesting.

Once Banded, How Much Weight Did You Lose In The First 2 Months?
I lost and gained the same 20 pounds until I got a my fourth fill. Right now I am losing nothing and have even gained about 7 pounds. I had to have an unfill due to being too tight and now I am getting filled a half cc at a time which is giving almost no restriction. We all vary so much that it is hard to compare. In all I have lost over 50 pounds so I am happy with that. I am definitely in the "turtle" club.

Muscle pain - any opinions?
Hey Stitchy, Did you ever have this pre-band? How is your fill and are you able to eat? I spent months on pain pills and then finally had an unfill which cut the neck and back pain in half, allowing me to stop the pain pills almost entirely. I had back issue before the band but when my fill was too tight it made it worse. Just a thought. Meanwhile, you are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you feel better real soon. Darla

TT vs Body Lift
My surgeon said he thinks he can get my insurance to pay for most of it. Anyone else have their insurance pick up the tab?
-
I may be sorry for asking this..........
I'd do it again too. I've lost about 60 lbs and the only complications are 2 overfills. I am sort of "stuck" now but also realize I should excersize.

Dr. C Question
I empathize with you. It is sooo frustrating. I went on so many diets and if I eat more that 800 calls a day, I GAIN.........no matter what the diet is. Some of us just can't metabolize the calories. I don't have answers and am so grateful Dr. C is here for us. Take care, Darla

Taking Meds With Band
Check with pharmacist to make sure you can split the pills. I get a pill splitter and chop them quite fine. If I am having trouble swallowing, i have a pill crusher that i use and then just mix them with my protein shake or yogurt.

Lactose-Free Protein Drink suggestions
Cambridge has a lactose free product made from soy. It is quite economical (about $145.00 per month). It lasts even longer if you don't have 3 shakes a day. I like the taste and all the yummy recipes and I think thats why its the only thing I could ever stick with. I am a distributor but am not really active in it right now. I could help you out if you are interested, pm me. Darla

TT vs Body Lift
Have you had PS? Are you gonna? I thought I would just need a TT but my surgeon said I might need a body lift. I'm going to do some research but thought I'd run by y'all first. Darla

PS before getting to goal?
My surgeon also does PS, he said wait until I am at goal. Oh well, so much for the short cut. I know what needs to be "tucked" would be about 10 lbs of weight gone.

Can the band tear loose
Yep. If you don't take care of it right away, you could get some swelling which could lead to needing a complete unfill for several weeks, then going back for a fill later. Until you can get to the dr., stay on liquids. You can mix slim fast shakes to make hot chocolate (not real good during the summer). Continue to get your water in, slow small sips. I just went through this and because I was losing weight, tried to just wait it out and ended up dehydrated and needing a complete unfill. I just got another fill (gained 7 lbs). You'll be fine but please don't wait, it ends up being more time consuming and expensive.

To all teachers.... need some help.
Hey there, Be sure and let parents know that you will be teaching subjects that adhere to your state standards. For example, "We'll travel back in time to witness the Greek myths in action" (for history). I teach 6-8 grades, special ed but most of my kids are at grade level they just have behavior problems. Touch on a bulleted list of math concepts, reading, and writing as well. I subscribe to edhelper.com for lessons at the touch of the finger stuff. I'll check some of my books for a intro letter. Best to ya! Darla

I do'nt have anyone else to talk to....
WOw! I think it is great that you have an appt to talk to someone. If that person (after a few sessions) doesn't seem to help, try another. Talk to girlfriends, journal about your feelings. Is your mother in law disabled? If not, let her know that you are just not available right now. She can ask her son (your hubby) for favors. He is in grad school which I know is demanding but your job and your kids are like having two jobs. I am a special ed teacher so I know what parents have on their plate as far as caring for their kids. Until you can make other employment arrangements, take time for you. Even if it is a 20 minute soak in the tub. Buy a daily meditation book (Women who do too much is a good one) and read it each morning. I have sooo been where you are and I know it is painful. It won't always be like this. It will pass and things will get better. While you are in it, however, you must have some coping strategies. Medication works for some, counseling, and the other things listed on t his thread. Please let us know how you are doing and hang in there, ok?
