  2. I had a port infection the week after my surgery. They gave me 10 days of antibiotic and I was fine. Just call your doctor right away so you can start on the medicine. Good Luck.
  3. I had my first fill two weeks ago and felt restriction for a day or so. sometmes it seems depending on what food I eat, I have more restriction. I only received .8 in my 4 cc band. I can't wait for my next appointment to get another fill. Some days I feel very frustrated because I feel really hungry and can eat quite a bit.
  4. why do they fill so little each time? Is there a standard that doctors usually follow for filling the band.
  5. I had my first fill today .8 My doctor said I have a 4 cc band. I have to go back in 6 weeks and if I need another fill, I can get one. The doctor said my weight loss starts today.... i'm so excited.
  6. I'm so glad for this posting. I was banded on 11/26 and this past week I have been so hungry I feel as if I don't have a band anymore. I can eat anything but I have some sense left and have been making I think better choices then I use to. I also had a piece of chocolate during christmas and a piece of cake. The good news was it was only one piece and I left the rest in the box. My first fill is Friday the 4th and I can't wait. It's very scarey to be this hungry. I'm also afraid of what weight I may have gained this past week. I can't wait to go back to work, being home is hard.
  7. Like you I am getting more hungry by the day. I was banded on 11/26. I had Turkey, Stuffing, Green Bean Cassarole & Sweet Potato - about 1 or 2 tablespoons of each. I dont' feel bad about that but I know the foods are high in fat. I wont' eat like that everyday. For dinner tonight I used the turkey and made some turkey salad with onions. I'm scheduled to have my first fill on 1/4 and will be happy to feel restriction after a few bites again. It astonishes me that I can get down the food and feel ok but know inside I can still eat and it will fit. But it's good to be back in the 2's again.
  8. I was banded on 11/26 and have a little restriction but over the past week I have been hungry. I filled my plate with 1 tablespoon of everything and ate almost all. I don't feel guilty because I can't have consumed that many calories being that I ate a little of this and that. I'm noticing when I eat more solids I am full longer. I'm weaning away from the pudding & Soups now because they don't do anything for me. My plate consisted of: Turkey, Sweet Potato, Stuffing, Green Bean Cassarole. I didn't eat much of the stuffing, maybe 1/2 teaspoon (it had sausages) I feel o.k. today. No problems getting the turkey down.
  9. I have a question for Cagstorm, what are you eating? I had my surgery on 11/26 and am really hungry these days... also very nervous. I don't think i've lost anything this week since I went from mushies to food.
  10. I'm looking for a local support group. Does anyone know of any support groups that meet in Monmouth County or the surrounding areas?
  11. I was so happy when I got back into the 2's... funny how my standards changed from when I was younger. I started around 320 now i'm 292. My next goal is: 250. One day i'm hoping to be 165.
  12. I felt exactly the same way. I was banded on 11/26. I was reading everyone's posts up until I had to leave for the hospital. I was more nervous after reading. Here I am 3 weeks later, 24 lbs lighter and on my way. My doctor told me, not to worry about the surgery but worry about what will happen to me if I don't do the surgery. That hit home. Good luck to you, i'm sure you'll do fine.
  13. Are port infections common. I was under the impression they were and easily corrected with antibiotics. I had an infection just 3 days after surgery which cleared up in a week with the antibiotics. I've been reading about people getting infections once they get a fill. Is that common as well?
  14. I survived. They offered soup or salad and a main dish. I had the cheese & Ale soup, I only had about a 1/4 cup and I was full. When the pasta came, I played with it so it looked like I was eating and then the waitress wrapped it up when she noticed I really wasn't eating. My husband had a good dinner last night. The soup was so thick that it worked out for me. I'm on my 3rd week and the doctor said I can start solids next week. Does anyone know how it works with chicken, turkey etc. I'm afraid to try them. I tried the fish and I was fine.
  15. I've been banded two weeks, tomorrow is my office holiday party. I was on liquids the first week but starving so my doctor put me on mushies and all has been fine. Tomorrow is my office holiday party and it's a sit down lunch. The choices are: Pasta, chicken or beef. What do I choose. Can I choose pasta and cut it up real small and eat. Please help???? I'm nervous. :help:
  16. I understand what your feeling, i'm 11 days out and 2 days ago I received the go ahead to start puree foods which has been great. I ate 1/2 an egg and was full. I also had an infection in my port on day 3 and was on antibiotics until yesterday.... my gift is a yeast infection... I was very depressed for two days, now i'm feeling much better and excitement has set in. I've only lost about 16 lbs but my bloating is gone. Hang in there, you will be fine.
  17. The nutritionist started me on puree yesterday. I was so happy to eat an egg. Anyway, 1 egg filled me up and I felt great. So far so good. The nutritionist said when people start to feel hungry then the swelling is down and as long as they call her, she will start them on the next phase of eating. Good Luck.
  18. I'm going crazy. Yesterday & Today have been very difficult since I'm feeling very hungry. I have a call in to the Nutritionist at my Doctors office to see when I can start Mushies. I was hoping to atleast have some farina even if I made it thinner but i'm worried about the milk, even though I'll use fat free they say some people get bad stomach aches from the milk. My family is saying, oh, great you lost 16 lbs and i'm like, easy to do when you don't eat...... I too had the illusion that the band would allow me to eat but I'd fill up and be satisfied for 4 hours. I hear it gets better when your on week 4.
  19. My doctors said I can have up to 2 protein drinks a day which are very filling. I have been eating sugar free/fat free jello & puddings. I also can't wait to get to mushies. I explained to the doctor that I was really hungry but they said it's in my head I can't be hungry. Has anyone else been told that? Is it true?
  20. My hunger is still here but I'm coping. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning. I'm finding that I feel light headed and weak even with my Isopure 40 g protein shake. Does anyone have any other additional protein ideas? Should I drink the entire shake in the morning? I've been nursing it for the day.
  21. My doctors put me on liquid Augmentum 875 - 3 1/2 teaspoons twice a day. It's a bit much to take but it beats crushing the pills and taking them. My port was red & hot to the touch, it's much better now and I started the medicine on Thursday Night. If you think you have an infection you shouldn't wait. Good Luck.
  22. I had my surgery Monday 11/26 and my problem is the energy. I don't have any. Sleeping is still a problem but i've been reading the threads and it looks like that changes after a few weeks. I haven't taken any pain meds but have the liquid tylenol just in case i need it. The gas pains were only bad on day 3 & 4 for me so that will get better. Good Luck.
  23. I was banded on Monday 11/26/07. I'm having a tough time, lack of energy but I would like to start walking. How soon can I get out there to walk? How much should I be doing?
