  1. ziahmama, u brought up some points that really hit home. Today I saw one of the parents at my school and she has lost a lot of weight in the past 11mos. Well she used to shaped like Hottentot Venus. Small waist big butt and hips. A lot of men would drool. But she was overweight non the less. Now she is small and very curvy. I commented on how good she looked and to keep up the good work. Well, she asked me privately if she was losing too much weight because people, including her in-laws would make comments like she didn't need to lose anymore etc ( u know the type) So this is what I told her: Look, there are two types of people that will comment on your weight. The ones that are sincere and the ones that are nosy. Now when your feet are swollen and you have sleep apnea and wake up choking where are the nosy people then? Look, for those that want to know what u r doing and just being nosy its none of their business. I don't care if you cut out your stomach and laid it on a table -that's your business. So this is what you tell them : you are doing, jenny craig, la weightloss, weightwatchers whatever. Have them running around town spending money on programs and looking stupid trying to figure u out . But whatever u r doing be proud and u don't owe anyone an explanation.
  2. :ohmy:I am so sorry that you are having such a bad experience with your hair situation. When I talk about weaves and extensions it's just to make light of a serious and hurtful situation. I hope that things will get better-it sounds like you are on the right track to getting your hair healthy. Keep us updated on your progress.
  3. Sorry I meant to direct that question to curvesincali since we were talking about yacky hair-oops.
  4. Claim that you will be a success story. Always tell your self that and work hard towards your goal. Congrats!
  5. I am a high school assistant principal. My plan is to sip on protein shakes on the drive to work and close my office door when I get ready to eat.
  6. I have sopped the idea around with a few people but I haven't said anything in the last few months. I have confirmed my surgery with my dh, a good friend who has had wls, and the wonderful people on this forum.
  7. lol It was fate that brought u to us! So now u have to catch up on a lot of reading.
  8. Great job pandagirl:thumbup:
  9. Hi San! It's great to meet another Bhamian on the forum. I am using Dr. Schmitt @ sve. I am sure your approval will come through soon. Listen, don't worry about those statistics, there are a lot of successful banders that are WOC (did u see Sheila's album?) I am claiming success and victory over all of this fatty watty!:wink2:
  10. I know Mobile very well, especially Orange Beach:laugh:
  11. ROFLMAO:lol::hurray::party: Now I do have to agree with you on that. Like my girl Whitney Houston says "hell to tha nawl".
  12. Ladies, Thank you so much for responding to this thread. It really helps to get things off your chest. I wish I could share this experience with my mom. She really spoils me to death. I want her to nurse me when i come back from the surgery and help prepare my liquids or mushies:tongue_smilie: It just hurts that I won't have her support. I have , however, come to terms with the idea that she will not be there for me during this process. I understand why: in her mind wls=death. She has already experienced the loss of a child. My mind is made up. This body that I am living is feels like a fat suit. I truly feel like it doesn't belong to me. So I am determined to get rid of it.
  13. Welcome ladies! I am so excited that you decided to join our group. I am amazed at how fast we are growing! You will meet great friends here and find outstanding support.
  14. I am definitely going to start treating my incisions early on..
  15. I have read about the pe-op diets that some people have to do before surgery. My docs office did not mention one when they scheduled by surgery. Actually y preop visit is not until the friday before my surgery (surgery in on a tues.) I am thinking, from what I have read that I will have to do a 24 hr diet. Why is it that some docs require different lengths to their pre-op diets?
  16. dinner (sushi:tt2:). now my mom starts talking about this dead cousin and her bypass. Then she starts talking about my aunt's friend and her bypass and the complications that followed. So I said... People have to do what's best for them and when they run into problems then we have to support them. Not beat them up about what they should not have done. Then she replied: Well commom sense would tell them not to do something that could kill them. So I said: Being fat could kill them. (I can smell somethings up, she doesn't give up that easily) Now I am on my way out the door with my teenage niece who by the way has been overweight since she was a little girl and my mother starts talking about how she is worried about me and how they were looking at old pics of me and my uncle commented that "april used to be a slim jim". So I was like: Ohh this is what this is about. She was like: I am just worried. How about ordering nutrisystem and trying that: Is it too expensive? I'll pay for it. Now how do I feel? That's the very reason I am not telling my family about my band (just my dh). Especially my mother. First of all she doesn't have a clue about wls, only what she has heard. She is as strong willed as I am so I could never make her understand the band. I refuse to let someone piss on my hopes. So she can go ahead and order me the nutrisysytem. All I need to know is: How can I resell it on e-bay?Holla! (In my best Tyra Banks voice)
  17. I second that! Congrats girl, keep up the good work.
  18. I did the six mos. supervised diet beginning in Dec. I was told by my surgeon's office not to lose a single pound (bmi was barely 40 w/no co morbidities). So the true food addict, emotional eater that I am actually GAINED weight on my 6 mos diet (approx 20lbs!) So, to answer your question I have had many last suppers:biggrin2: Now I do plan to eat some specific things before my Sept. surgery that I may not be able to tolerate for a while like :drumroll: Sushi and plum wine yummmmmm and some general tso chicken and oh thai chicken noodle bowl yeah that's it:tt1: Have a round of sangria for me!
  19. Hi ya'll, how many days r u planning to take off from work after your surgery? My surgery is scheduled for Tues. Sept 9th. I have taken off the 9-12. That gives me 4 work days and 2 weekend days before work the following Monday. So that is a total of 6 days. Is that enough time? I am also off on the Monday before surgery for labor day. I have heard of people taking less time but I think the doc is going to fix a hiatal hernia during the surgery also(is anyone else getting a dual procedure?) so I wanted to be on the safe side.
  20. Thanks Tally, I can't wait to get that little band around my big stomach!
  21. Thanks ya'll, I am glad u like the siggie. We should do a roll call thread for Banded in September 08. I be the list is gonna grow as we get into the month of August.
  22. I have bc bs. My info was mailed to them on July 2nd or 3rd. The review board received the info on July 15th and I was approved on July 22nd. Not bad considering that they lost some of my documentation in their mail room and I had to resubmit those particular items. Also I was told that it could take 4-6 weeks but it actually took about 2.5 weeks.
  23. "Forgive them Father for they know not what they do"-J. Christ Now here I go: We can't control what people say or do to us. We can only control our response. After all of the hard work that u have done, don't allow anyone to :cursing:with your confidence. You have gotten some great advice here. From one extreme to the other. I say there is a time to be classy and there is a time to show your assy. Do whatever makes you feel good!
  24. Hi there! I was just approved a few days ago by bcbs alabama. I had to complete the six mos supervised diet before it could be submitted.
