  1. can i eat breakfast? what should i expect? i'm freaking out here!!! ahhhhhhhh
  2. I hope Rachele does great with this surgery and I wish her all the best. However, I do have to point out that even though the DS has such great stats as far as weight loss goes, the death rate is so high that it's not performed as wide-span as the band.
  3. My doc told me that if I couldn't stay on the liquid diet then I could have one small low fat meal a day. So I had alot of soup and 1 meal per day except the day before surgery where I just had pure liquids! Anyways, I don't think it really matter b/c the girl in the waiting room told me she had fajitas and maragritas the night b4 surgery. Don't worry that you cheated - it's hard to go hungry. Don't start thinking you won't be able to do the liquids after surgery b/c after surgery you don't even feel like eating and it's much easier!
  4. I felt a little depressed that I felt like crap the 1st few days but once I saw the scale going down down down I got more up up up!!!
  5. and you can blend soup - maybe not chicken but I blended the cream of broccoli - yummm
  6. Keri says: "I am also losing quite a bit from the boobage area. Stomach is still hanging on for all it is worth." DITTO FOR ME!
  7. You will be fine - this is surgery, it takes 6 weeks to heal! I felt like crap too and was crying alot and fighting with my hubby for no reason,,,, it's depressing to hurt and be bed ridden. I could hardly get down more than a 2 oz cup of water the 1st few days. Just do what I did - rent the entire season of Desperate Housewives and just watch that and sleep for a few days! Also, get up and walk, go outside and walk, getting outside is crucial for mental health, and walking is crucial to feeling better after being banded. It will get better and a month from now when you see the weight you've lost and you feel energetic and your clothes fit better and you can eat real food again you'll forget about the fact that the surgery sucked!
  8. I know it was a typo but it made me laugh my you know what off when I read " Although I hate everything that crossed my path in the last month, except for small children"
  9. I can eat 1 1/2 - 2 cups food. I can eat what I did pre-band basically. I was worried about a slip but everyone says it's normal before a fill. I hope that's true.
  10. Ok, I just saw the article that Kirstie Alley told Oprah she topped the scales at 219 ---- Ok, I'm sorry but if I topped at 245, she was WAY over 219!!!!!
  11. I mean I wish the candy would make my stomach hurt - unfortunatley I have no problems eating many of the fun size candies left from Halloween - and then when they were finally gone my husband bought more b/c they were 1/2 price (does he not understand by now that I CANNOT control myself - he even told me he "noticed I've been eating more sweets lately" - what am I supposed to do when he brings home the Reeses mix?!?!?! If I could control myself I wouldn't have had to get a band in the 1st place.) anyways, off my tangent. Is there a reason carbonation hurts when I drink it?
  12. Ok, I am one of the few people on here that is allowed to have carbonation. My doctor said I could have it 4 weeks after surgery. I have tried 3 times to have a bit of soda and after 1-2 sips my stomach immediatley hurts. I did fine without it for 4 weeks and I decided I would have it only if I really wanted it, but now I never want it b/c I know it will cause a tummy ache. I just thinks it's ironic that I'm allowed to have it and I physically cannot drink it, while others are not supposed to have it and can't stop drinking it. Now if I could only have this problem with candy,,,,,,,
  13. same thing here - so ready for my fill next week!
  14. I am anti-Curves. The price is ok - 30 bucks per month (I signed up when they had a free sign up time) and you have to sign a yr contract. My problem with it was that your body gets used to the wrokout before the year is up and you never push yourself any harder and it stops working kind of. I quit exersizing for the year before I got my band and now I walk and increase distance and pace once a week. Your body needs to be pushed to get a good workout. WIth Curves you will just stay stagnant. Don't get me wrong - any workout is better than none, and Curves is fun, but if you are serious about it, You need a routine where you can mix it up and push yourself more or your body will just adapt and stay where it is. Curves offers no outlet for mixing up the routine.
  15. Just do what I do and drown those feelings in alchohol instead of food! Just kidding - sortof, I really do that sometimes but don't worry - I'm no alchoholic - just someone who is human because I get stressed sometimes. I have come to realize with the band you have to find another outlet. Exersize, a bubble bath, a bottle of wine - whatever you need to help you thru those rough days! Good luck!
  16. Ok, here I was yesterday whining about how I haven't lost anymore weight, how I can eat almost a full meal, how I've been eating Halloween candy, etc and how I can't wait for my 1st fill next week. I've been avoiding the scales b/c of all the things mentioned above and I finally weighed in this morning and it was 228. Down 2 more pounds. How does this happen when I am eating hardly anything and my weight loss stalls and then I eat candy and more food and I lost 2 pounds. I am going to try not to ? it and just be happy. Also, I have been walking almost everyday so that probably helps! Anwyays, I am still going to get a fill. I can eat about 1 and 2/3 cup of food at a meal and I would like to be eating about 1 cup.
  17. I'm in my 3rd and last year of law school - whoo hoo! I only have class 3 days a week so I missed about 5 days of school getting banded. I told everyone at school and my professors because I don't care what anyone thinks and I would rather people know the truth then spread rumors (which happens alot in a small law school). I just bring my lunch - they have a fridge we can store our stuff. Anyways, I am so ready to be done with this school stuff and get out in the real world,,,, of course, I have to take that pesky bar exam in July...grrrrrrrr.................
  18. I heard they take all your fill out before putting a new fill in (or at least that's what they are supposed to do ) so I would think you could easily get an unfill. Also, they unfill you if you get pregnant I've heard. Why are you sick of your band?
  19. I used Dr. Barker in Dallas. www.drwbarker.com He was great, and he had done tons of bands, and he is a laproscopic expert and does the laproscopic bypass.
  20. Ok, now I can basically eat what I did before (maybe slightly less) and I find myself just shoveling it in b/c I can. I am so frustrated now. Why can I eat like this? Then I worry that I've hurt my band somehow lioke stretching or something. I get my 1st fill in 9 days and I'm so ready! Hopefully they won't say I've dislocated my band from eating too much!
  21. umm yeah, I had to give myself an enema 3 days after surgery. It sucked but I have been fine and regular since then!
  22. Not to start a controversy - I have heard WONDERFUL things about Dr. Jaysalleen, but D Magazine is not really a good basis for rating someone. At least in the Legal community, people pay for and solicit those D magazine polls.
  23. I used Dr. Barker in Dallas and I LOVE HIM!!! I went to him originally b/c he was the cheapest but I ended up using him b/c he is so caring. He has called me from his home to answer questions for me, offered to give me his cell #, sqeezed me in for an appointment, etc. He does the surgery at 5 different places, and I picked the cheapest which was Vista Surgery Hospital in Garland. The total cost for everything was $12,600. Fills are 100 each but my insurance covers them (I don't get that....) so I just have to pay 30 for a fill. Vista was great and the staff was fantastic and so attentive! Anyways, self pay sucks but Dr. Barker was the cheapest I found in the Dallas area. Also, if you do have insurance, remember that when getting fills b/c they can bill your fill as an x-ray so your insurance will pay it. Send me a private message if you ever want to talk about anything in more detail. Good luck!
  24. I'm glad I saw it - It makes me feel better about the fact that I can eat alot b/c I haven't been filled yet. When you see the band w/ no fill it doesn't look like it would restrict much.
  25. My doc says most people have no restriction before a fill but I am getting worried b/c I can eat more and more everyday. Today I had 1/3 cup egg salad for breakfast, an egg salad sandwich and a few cheetos for lunch, 3 cookies in the afternoon, and 1 1/2 cups spagetti and a small spoon of green beans. This seems like about 4/5 of what I could eat pre-band. I'm sure I just need a fill but I am so worried about slippage, stretched pouch, etc. Did anyone else eat almost as much as pre-band before a fill?
