Weirdest Restriction
Im oppopsite - I cant eat breakfast, lunch is ok, and I'm wide open at night! My 1st few bites of the day are always hard. I'm also opposite from most women on here who are locked down when they have thier periods - my period opended my band like a floodgate (it sucked that it was so open over Xmas week when there was all this crap to eat around all the time)

Help..
I'm only 26 and all the docs I've talked to including my PCP ever said about me having band surgery at my age was that its good to see someone getting a grip on the problem now instead of dying early and being fat by whole life. I say go for it if you've read everything on this wesbite, done research, and believe the band is for you.

Why do you have a scar???
plus, I always ask my hubby if the scars bother him and he says guys dont think about that when you are naked - they are looking a little bit further up at your you know whats!

Why do you have a scar???
any type of laproscopuc surgery leaves the same scars basically, so just say you had some laproscopy and leaveit at that!

awful RNY story...
I have no idea what her pre-op was but I asked my mom for more details and apparently she had a friend sneak the pizza in for her - that friend must feel pretty darn bad!!!

I've been denied surgery...
Once again, my doc and many others do not require a physch eval so you could pick a doc like that and you won't have to have one at all.

good way to get calcium
Ok, you have convinced me that Viactin is ok - but those Adora chocolates are so dang yummy I might have to stick with them!

please help, banded yesterday
I really think walking as much as you can and getting up and around helps. I felt that way to but then 4 days later I was back at work. You'll be fine!

Revised poll - for people who have had thier bands 2 years or more.
Trish - vote when you find out what's going on. I hope everything is ok! Did you gt banded in Mexico?

Revised poll - for people who have had thier bands 2 years or more.
Ok, I am revising the Mexico v US problems poll so we can evaluate people who have been banded for 2 years or more.

port placements
Mine is about 3 inches over and 3 inches up from my belly button. If I eat too much it hurts - I think b/c my tummy is sticking out and the port has to stretch a little.

Hungry? With the band?!
usually I don't get hungry between meals but I just got hungry and ate a few nuts - that was PLENTY enought to fill me right back up. Pre-band I would eat a "snack" around 4 that was basically another meal.

Pre/Post Op Must Have list
I didn't use any Gas X ever - I hardly had any gas pains. Anyways, the stuff I got before hand for post-op was lots of liquids to drink, popsicles, an enema (my 1st post-op bowel movement was hell on earth and it would have been easier if I had just resigned myself to the enema earlier), rent movies to lay in bed and watch. That's all I can think of. Oh, and breath mints - the liquid diet makes your breath stinky!

to fill or not fill - that's my ?
Whoo HOO in the 2's Duckie! Good for you! My next mini goal is to be in ONE-derland at my graduation!

Just a Curious Newbie going to start my journey
I think it would help to have someone around for a few days after surgery just to help you out, but it's not absolutley necessary. The recovery is not too bad at all - I was back at work in 4 days. I slept pretty much 24-7 the 1st 1-2 days, got up and walked when I could. Anyways, welcome to LBT - you will find tons of info here and if you have a specific ? just ask! Good luck!

good way to get calcium
Good to know about the Viactin - its just some things I have kind of a 6th sense about and I don't even try. I swear, I look at some things and I just have a gut feeling that it ain't going down!

Overeating/slippage
I have only had pizza 2 times since banding and it's been thin crust veggie so that's probably not so bad. But yeah, we bandsters should prolly avoid pizza generally.

to fill or not fill - that's my ?
I really dont eat too much junk -its just I feel that junk is all I've had this last week b/c of Xmas. I have only lost 2-3 lbs since 2 weeks after my surgery. So that's only 2-3 lbs in the past 2 months. I am going to get another small fill, I have resolved to start inputting my food on fitday.com, and I just signed up for water aerobics and hubby and I are going to go play tennis tonight. I think I need a mental adjustment as well as a band adjustment!

awful RNY story...
I was reading that thread about how someone slipped a day after SX b/c they ate steak and it reminded me of this AWFUL story I heard. My mom's friend's friend had a RNY and the NIGHT after her surgery she ordered pizza to her hospital room, ate a bunch of it, it made a staple pop out, and the staple went thru her blood and into her heart and she died. I know that's a really awful story - but it's a good reminder for the newbies that you MUST give your body a chance to heal after surgery. You will be able to eat again, but stick to liquids and mushies like your doc says until you heal.

good way to get calcium
I have discovered a great way to get extra calcium! I am scared those Viactin chews will get gunked up in my band b/c they are so chewy. Now some place makes these chocolates called Adora Calcium chocolates and they have dark chocolate (which they sayd one peice of dark chocolate a day is good for you b/c of the antioxidants). Anyways, just passing along info on a great find!

Overeating/slippage
My doc says 99% of people feel no restriction after they heal and before thier 1st fill. I was the same way. I can eat 1 peice pizza now plus maybe 2 chicken wings, and I've had 2 fills already. You sound like me - you prolly just a need a few fills and you'll be fine! Also, I don't know about you but 3 peices pizza is great considering pre-band I could eat 5-6 peices plus cinnamon sticks!

to fill or not fill - that's my ?
thanks ALOT! that was a great read!

to fill or not fill - that's my ?
I am pondering getting another fill. In some ways I want one b/c I can eat 1 - 1 1/2 cups food at a time. But in other ways I don't want one b/c I can't eat chicken (gets stuck) so I'm always eating ground beef, veggies, pasta and salad. I am not doing the protein 1st thing and I am eating alot of crap (candy, crackers, etc). I think a fill might help me eat less, but then again, does it really matter if I'm eating less if I'm eating crap b/c I can;t get chicken down?

Pay for the band! Poll!
I paid $12,600 total. I financed 5k and paid for the rest from savings. I think that's a pretty good price for a US doc. My insurance pays for fills but not the surgery - what is that about???
-
Have a recommendation for self-pay in Dallas/Ft Worth area?
I highly reccomend Dr Barker - www.drwbarker.com - He did my surgery at Vista in Garland and the peopl ethere were really nice. Who9le thing was $12,600
