finallyfree101 reacted to Pkdvm in Pre op
There seems to be a lot of variation in duration and type of pre op diets, but as I'm on day 2 of mine I can tell you what I'm doing. I have 3-4 shakes a day made with a Protein Powder that has 100-200 calories/serving and 5 grams or less of fat/sugar/carbs and over 15 grams of Protein. I can mix it with water/skim milk/ unsweetened almond milk and am also permitted to add fresh fruit. For dinner I'm supposed to have a meal with 4 oz of lean protein/1/2 c. starch/1 c. cooked veggies(Not peas, corn or lima beans). I am allowed raw veggies to snack on.
I'm not going to lie, today was tough, especially when I had to go grocery shopping. Other folks say it gets easier after the first 4 days and I'm counting on that!
    Good luck to you!

And of course eggs! Egg white omelets. Poached eggs. Etc
I did do scrambled once but u like those well done and did not go down well. If you can make them 'wet' then you'll be great
I didn't have problems with chicken at all. Just add a little chicken stock and blend it up

Well I would be really careful with chicken, I heard it was hard to digest and for me it was very hard too. Everytime i ate chicken i had a stomach ache so I would stay away from it for a few weeks. By the way CONGRATS on 7 weeks! WOW I couldn't do liquid that long lol. I would suggest fish but stay away for salmon very fatty. Try cheese yougurt (plain) cottage cheese ricotta cheese was good too. Start off really soft. As for the Vitamins BE CAREFUL and make sure you take them on a full stomach. I got so sick at first from them. Also spread them out don't take them all at once. I hope this helps a little
    Erica GOOD LUCK!

    7 weeks?!?
    Wow god bless you
During purée I ate cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken and pork and turkey in my cuisinart and added liquids to make it a little purée
The pork I gotta say I added BBQ Sauce just a little so I could get the taste.

Mine was the 7th. Lost 10 lbs preop. And 10 after.
After the surgery was feeling OK but uncomfortable. Don't think I stayed awake for more than 5 minutes at a time.
I had dry mouth and not being able to drink for 24 hours was extremely hard.
They gave me shots for no nausea
I walked a few hours later. Getting out of the bed was harder then the walking. Shoulder really hurt, and now my other shoulder hurts.
Thank g-d by day 4 I was already feeling better, getting out of the house to walk around the block, taking care of the kids, doing basic computer work ..
Now a week later, I have slight pain from the incision area and some stomach tightness through out the day, but otherwise I'm basically back to myself. Spent Saturday at synagogue, walking there, then Sunday took kids to the park (I did watch them from the bench most of the time). I do feel winded easily and overall tired but not too bad. Also I can now sleep on my stomach but have to turn over and lay down gently.
It's hard to get in the liquids and Protein and really annoying to constantly wait the 5 minutes. Can't see doing that for the rest of my life but. ..
I'm allowed to have plain fat free yogurts, cream of wheat, milk, juice, broth, Jello, fat free sugar free pudding and Popsicles. And of course Protein shakes.
I totally crave the broth, home made chicken Soup, but I get full so fast. And by the time I get to the 5th bite the Soup is cold.
One last thing before I finish this long post, in my opinion it's physically and emotionally important to have someone with u. My husband helped so much

I'm so excited to see this thread up! I too had my surgery on July 2. My pre-surgery weight was 260. I am so happy to report that to date ( and I weigh myself daily), I am down 12lbs! I couldn't be more thrilled. I have my first post-op dr visit tomorrow. I've been feeling relatively fine other than being pretty sore and my stomach is still swollen. I am also finally starting to gain some energy. I was so weak all week long. Today is the first day that I felt like I could actually do some light housework. But, of course I over did it and now my stomach is really sore tonight. So, I guess I will have to take it one day at a time.
At any rate, congrats to all of the July 2014 sleevers and I am looking forward to staying in touch!

I work for a fortune 100 company and manage a department of 150 people. Neither I nor HR can handle any return to work notes from doctors since we make hiring and firing decisions. The notes have to go straight to our leave of absence team. You should double check with another source. Likely your boss is just misinformed on the policy.

My note only said that I had to be off for a certain period of time and did not even say I had surgery. I do not believe they need anything more than that but you should check with your HR dept

    Hi Amarie,

It is your personal business what type of surgery you are having. I don't feel your boss has to know. I told my boss that I was having a surgical procedure and I would need 2 weeks off. I provided human resources with appropriate doctor excuse but it didn't say anything about diagnosis or why I was having surgery. It just listed how much time I needed and was signed by surgeon. Good luck on your surgery.

Hey, y'all, from Mississippi. A week ago on July 7 I went to meet my dr and sign consents. I'd been jumping through all the hoops since October and had hoped to have this done the end of May since I teach at an elementary school. Dr said it looked like August for surgery....that wouldn't work because I go back to school Aug 1 and wouldn't be able to take off. That would push surgery to Thanksgiving. Dr rearranged some things and came in and said we were looking at Thursday!!! I considered that the best birthday present EVER!!! (July 7 was my birthday) Not much time for my "food funeral" though, because I had to do Clear Liquids from Wednesday-on. Great procedure, with no pain or gas pains. Started walking as soon as I got back from recovery. Already sick of broths and really looking forward to day 7 when I can add something new!!!
Thankful that I found this group

Hi! New to this forum. Had my surgery on July 7th. Didn't have any issues with nausea. Lucky I guess. Down 42 pounds. 20 on pre op diet.
For those questioning doing this... I just got to pull out my skinnier guy clothes and I gotta say, playing pretty pretty princess was fun!
I guess everyone recovers different. Only needed pain meds at night up till last night. Did get a fever of 101 night before last and the shaking was not fun with the soreness. I hospital for 3 days. Going into work tomorrow for a few hours. Hope that goes well. Then back to work on Monday.
If you haven't found sugar free popcicles, leave for the store now:)

@@tfowler I think you are doing great! My surgeon allows cream Soups on the pre-op diet, so I don't know if you should feel bad about Tomato or potato Soups.< /p>
I have been doing two shakes a day and a good healthy lunch or dinner for the past few months, just because I knew that sooner or later my pre-op diet would kick in and I didn't want it to sneak up on me. So far in the past two months just doing this I have lost 20lbs. I knew I could lose weight doing this, but the problem in the past has been when I stop doing the diet. Now, because of this surgery, I know that I will be successful at keeping the weight off.
I have been calling my mom everyday going, hey my surgery is coming up! I am so excited!! I'm like a kid waiting for christmas! We are almost there! YAY!

I so commend you for your honesty. My surgery is on July 14th my surgeon didn't give me a preop diet but I decided I would start a liquid diet today for Breakfast and lunch. I NEVER wake up hungry and this morning bc my mind knew I could not eat I felt as if I was starving. I had a Protein Shake with 2 powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury scoops and still felt hungry. Even now as I sit at my desk at work I have my water with Mio flavor added to it. All I am thinking about is food! I feel bad that this is so hard and never knew my relationship with food was as intense as it is...boy am I in for a rude awakening in the start of this journey....
I wish us all luck on our journey, AGAIN I KNOW WE CAN DO THIS!

Thanks for the responses! It will be nice having a group to encourage and be encouraged by. I'm very new to the forum and haven't quite figured everything out yet, but I'll get there.
A bit about me...I'm a 33 year-old female. I've been overweight pretty much my whole life. I've known for a long time that my weight has kept me from a lot of things--e.g., social interactions, career opportunities, etc. Mostly, it's the perception. I'm not a fat, lazy, unorganized person who only cares about food, but that's how people perceive me. It bothered me to the point that I started looking into having surgery last year, but I wanted so desperately to do it on my own. I'd done it before. Back when I was 24, I lost about 60 pounds. I wasn't extremely thin, but I was a lot healthier than I am now. But my mom always told me that my body would start to retaliate after I turned 30, and she was right. Losing weight on my own was nowhere as easy for me as it had been when I was younger. So...here I am. I am ready. Don't get me wrong; I'm nervous about my 3-week liquid diet that will begin on Monday, nervous about how well I will handle the pain (I am a big baby, I know!), and how well I will adjust to learning to eat the right way as opposed to the marathon eating sessions I've experienced in the past. I am ready for this; I just need some encouragement. My family is quite supportive and excited for me, but it would be nice to share these experiences with a few others who will know exactly what I'm talking about. I know that when I read posts from people who post from the hospital and consecutively the following weeks, those posts are the most informative because it gives me a good idea of what to expect.
Anyway, thank you again for joining me on this chosen path. It won't be easy, but it will be rewarding. I refuse to be a victim of my weight.

This is exactly how I feel. I will be 25 on July 10th. I have been overweight/obese since I was 12. I have struggled and never gotten below 220. I am tired of this battle. Time for me to use this tool that is available and make the most of it! I completely agree with you... I will not be a victim of my weight! I love that!

my surgery was on Monday. I stayed over night in the hospital and got home at about 8 last night. After the surgery and pretty Much all yesterday I was pain free. The nurses said at 24 hours post op is when you feel the most pain and they were definitely right. And as much as you're not going to want to you have to walk walk walk! It's the only thing that has helped me today. Good luck to everyone who is having surgery this month! It's all worth it!!

I love that all of you are doing so well, we have one heck of a hot "topic" here...lol....
I am on day 2 of liquid diet, and yesterday was horrid, I was so hungry, but I kept busy.
The bad part is, my kids noticed the freezer popsicles were melted, so I checked, and my whole fridge was warm....ughhhhhh.... .
I will tell you that it is not fun to rummage through food you CANT have, and try to figure out what is bad and what isn't....it was like a herroin attic bagging up the goods, but can't have it.......IT SUCKED!!!!!
    But I did it
Today has been so much easier, and I have had to mess with the kitchen stuff to get it all cleaned up today too....12 more days to go on this...(not counting today )
Just thought I would share my first day on liquids...
BIG (((HUGS))) to everyone...hope all is well!!!!!

finallyfree101 reacted to Luigi5144 in Anxiety about upcoming surgery...is this a good idea?
I think the anxiety is healthy to an extent. to me, it means you are taking this surgery and the new lifestyle changes that come with it very seriously. You're looking reality square in the eyes. But, as you already know from being a Mama, life is unpredictable. You can't worry about things that you have no control over. You look at the risks, the probabilities and plan around those. Talk to the dr about flying home alone. I was told by my dr to have some back up for parenting for the first few days home. And, if the anxiety is getting so bad that it's impairing your daily life, maybe ask for something to take.

I'm sorry that they're putting you thru this. With a BMI of 45 + the co-morbidities I am very surprised you were not approved. I strongly recommend you appeal thru your surgeon if possible; they can do a peer-to-peer meeting where your physician can work with insurance drs. There are obesity advocacy attorneys who can help as well, Lindstrom is popular here. wlsappeals. com. ( Not affiliated)
