1 week until 3 week post-op diet, any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I would love any suggestions this group can offer about what to eat during the soft food phase. I will start my pureed and soft foods next week and I am really nervous. I've been on liquids for 7 weeks and feel pretty good but want to make sure I get enough Protein and Vitamins without upsetting my stomach or causing nausea. I'm used to eating at the same time every day and not ingesting solid food. I will start Vitamins next week too and would like suggestions and ideas about how to cook, prepare and eat foods that will not hurt my new tummy. Any ideas would be helpful????

7 weeks?!?

Wow god bless you

During purée I ate cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken and pork and turkey in my cuisinart and added liquids to make it a little purée

The pork I gotta say I added BBQ Sauce just a little so I could get the taste.

Well I would be really careful with chicken, I heard it was hard to digest and for me it was very hard too. Everytime i ate chicken i had a stomach ache so I would stay away from it for a few weeks. By the way CONGRATS on 7 weeks! WOW I couldn't do liquid that long lol. I would suggest fish but stay away for salmon very fatty. Try cheese yougurt (plain) cottage cheese ricotta cheese was good too. Start off really soft. As for the Vitamins BE CAREFUL and make sure you take them on a full stomach. I got so sick at first from them. Also spread them out don't take them all at once. I hope this helps a little :)

Erica GOOD LUCK!

And of course eggs! Egg white omelets. Poached eggs. Etc

I did do scrambled once but u like those well done and did not go down well. If you can make them 'wet' then you'll be great

I didn't have problems with chicken at all. Just add a little chicken stock and blend it up

Very helpful! Thank you, any advice will help. I over think things, not always a bad thing, but I crave fish and chicken but someone had an open can of fish at costco and I couldn't handle it.

I started easy with plain fage greek yogurt and mashed avocado. mashed sweet potatoe too. Poached egg which is the easiest to digest. Also organic baby food to re introduce chicken and turkey. My Dr also said soft white fish mashed up. Butternut squash Soup and unsweetened apple sauce (I add vanilla Protein powder and cinnamon). Enjoy

I am in the soft stage now. I'm drinking 2 premier Proteins a day so I get my Protein. I'm eating green Beans or mashed potatoes with a little gravy for meals. My NUT said this is the only stage that she allows KFC mashed potatoes and gravy because the intake is so little. Im only getting about 500 calories a day.

I started with eggs, but now added mashed potatoes, refried Beans, really soft carrots or green beans, cottage cheese, soft fruit with no skin ( more mushy fruit)

I'm on the soft diet now. I've been able to eat salmon burgers, tuna, eggs, banana, yogurt, mashed potatoes... weirdly apple sauce doesn't agree with me. Chicken really doesn't agree with me. I bought unflavored Protein powder which really great to add mashed potatoes or Soups to increase the protein content.

Amazingly, chicken, turkey and beef has agreed with me! I'm a bit reluctant to try pork just yet but I have plenty of time. I was at soft foods by week 2 (I literally only ate oatmeal for the puree' stage because that was just gross). Week 4 is when I'm allowed to eat regular foods (3 days away!!).

You just have to go into everything slowly because all of our bodies and reactions to food are different. Good luck on your soft food phase!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
