    Seriously Depressed

Part of this process for me is being very cognitive of my emotions as it relates to food and my environment. I have felt depressed as well and really have no reason to be. I do know that making poor choices in the past filled in those gaps. Now I really need to think it through and make a better choice for me. Your nutritionist and Dr should be able to help too. Good luck to you.
  2. Take your time reintroducing foods, you will know almost immediately what you can tolerate. I loved this phase and really started to learn to read labels and change my cooking habits. Favorite meal I learned on this forum was crab bisque and the family loved it too. I also felt my energy come back once I weaned back on regular and soft foods and started weighing 2 times a week instead of daily and never noticed a stall.
  3. This was the post I was looking for. I have the same questions. I feel like I'm relearning to cook and don't really have a clue. I love to cook Soups all the time so my favorite thing to make now is a crab bisque, I also like snack foods so I chop a lot of veggies for my day time Snacks, cheese and turkey. I would love to learn to cook lean fish and kim chi and make a zucchini Pasta from scratch. I would love t hear what others are making? Thanks for posting. I do not want to fall into old habits.

    Time off of work?

I have a desk job and only took a long weekend holiday 4 days July 3rd was my sleeve date and I went back to work the following Monday. It depends on how well you recover and handle post-op changes. I had no problems and was very fortunate. Good Luck
  5. I think if you could break it down into mg per meal you would be better off. My Dr. said the chewy bariatric vitamins are fine but I wasn't supposed to start until week 4. so I take my B-12 in the morning and then my Iron pill on an empty stomach this is about 6: 30 am when I go to work. Then Breakfast at 8 with my first 500 mg calcium citrate chew. I have 3 of those a day with each meal. At the end of the day I take my multivitamin since this one seems to make me a little nauseas. I hope this helps.
  6. Interesting topic! I was told it flushes the nutrients out of your system but I think all of the above are true. after eating I go and keep busy for an hour so not to think about it. It is a hard new habit for sure.

    Bariatricpal scared me shitless

You should take what you need and leave the rest! for sure, there are a lot of people who need to vent and very few people that have complications. I have not had any complications or issues and I had surgery on July 3rd. No issues for me, I am not saying there are not risks or those individuals didn't follow the rules. Just keep on track and pay attention to your body as you go through phases. I followed the rules my Dr. gave me and researched the risks and new that the risk for me not having it was much higher. Good luck, it's okay to be nervous.

    Nurtrition Goals

That's funny I just updated my fitness pal for my 6- 8 week goals. I would like to hear what others are doing too? My instructions were to keep a 60 to 80 Protein balance and low carbs. so I put my protein goals at 60 % into my app which is way higher than it should be but it keeps my carbs at about 25% and my fats under 15%. it's not an exact science. My calorie intake increased from 800 to 1000 and will go up again in 2 weeks. curious about other responses though. there is a bariatric food pyramid as well.

    told my mom

Telling my mom was very hard but I had to. At first it was hard some negative talk and then sabotage and now it's better our relationship had to change for me to be healthier. Now We talk about books and music and even TV and that I'm happy. Not an easy thing to do. I would have kept it quiet but it would have been difficult to explain why I'm not cooking for everyone during the holidays this year. empower your choices if you don't tell mom there is good reason.

    Gastric sleeve

Hi there, I can tell you every day it get's better. I had mine done July 3rd and I sometimes forget that I had surgery. Once your body starts to adjust and your timing for food, Protein and Water is in sync and walking you will be amazed at how well you've adjusted. Good luck, it's a journey and I am loving every minute of my new learning and taking care of me.

    Chefs? Avid home cooks?

I am learning all new recipes, and it is challenging. It's kind of fun to learn new dishes though and my taste testers seem to enjoy it!

    Does anyone regret it?

I'm only in 3 1/2 weeks but have not been this happy in a very long time. I understand your concern about divorce, they say it's like 75% but, if you are truly happy with the one your with and they support your choice the 2 of you will be fine! It would take a heck of a lot for me to even think about leaving my man, he's the most supportive man I've ever met. I hope you make the right decision for you. Good luck!
  13. Guacamole or just seasoned avocado for sure, with green Chile hot sauce and soft laughing cow cheese melted on top of refried Beans. I'm still reintroducing, so I can't wait for some humus and I am going to have to try crab bisque, any recipes lipstiklady ?

    Vitamin truth please!

I did some research and honestly you will probably spend a little less on Vitamins once you can tolerate pills again. When you buy the chewable or dissolvable they are a little more, I spent about $90 for my first month supply, with shipping. They are absorbed better than pills. Still worth it because I don't spend money on going out to eat and going for drinks anymore.

    suggestions

I'm just starting this phase today as well, I'm curious about some ideas! I'm going to try pureed meat tomorrow with some marinade. That's all I can think of for now, but I will share as I learn more. So far no problems with reintroduction of food. There has to be more than what is on my list.
  16. I'm going to have to check that out! thanks. My experience at the mall yesterday was like being in a foreign country and unable to speak the language, seriously. I live in a small town of 6,000 people and when I travel for Dr. appointment I shop! I went automatically to the Woman's section of Macy's good ole' stand by and the clothes were so cute but nothing I liked fit, so I figured it was time to venture to the "regular," sizes and I was sooooo confused! I haven't been in those sections for a very long time. I went to find my size and they were all picked over and very few options, unless I wanted to spend $80.00 for a pair of pants, eeeek! Not to wear for 4 weeks, not going to happen! More to my point, I took all my clothing that no longer fit, to the local consignment stores and since Friday they have already sold 8 of 75 items. I earn 50% and can buy my clothes there until I'm down to goal. These aren't just thrift store quality they have really nice clothing, Just another option.

    liquid phase is depressing

I am on week 7 of protein, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Hang in there. maybe switch to an unflavoted isopure or uninjury and add in a mix of flavored proteins. my go too id homr made unsweetened almond coconut milk with instant decaf and protein served very cold. Good luck

    Liquid consumption

I was told to have 5 protein shakes a day and water is supposed to be 48 to 64 oz in addition.
  21. Go to a couple healthfood stores, most smaller stores offer samples! I did this and it really helped! I went to all of them and sampled for a week before deciding! The premeir protein are good too!

    One week post opt...questions

Oh yes, this is a weird sensation, the first few days I could feel everything I was drinking especially the Protein. I just kept on a schedule and limit to 4 oz at first. That does fade, I think it's because our stomachs are still healing. I hiccup now when I'm full and don't have that weird sensation after 3 weeks. I start soft food tomorrow so we'll see! Good luck to you!
