  1. Thank you for posting about costco.....a number of years ago I picked up some at $5/pound.....but haven't seen it that low in a long time....I have put them in yogurt as mentioned, but let it sit for awhile so they aren't so seedy.
  2. Good luck, hope it all works out for you!
  3. I'm just getting online tonight.....hope it all went well and that you are doing well.
  4. Welcome!!!! Best wishes on this journey.
  5. Good luck.....I think mine will be submitted in 17 days.....but who's counting? LOL
  6. Welcome to the group! The people here are so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! Good luck!
  7. I was given my packet of paperwork from my surgeon's office, and was told once I completed these appointments to call them.....I've always had to have doctor's offices make the initial calls, so I was a little uncomfortable about this (but my insurance doesn't require referrals, so maybe that's why) Thought it'd take forever......it's 2 months later, and I have my last appointment in a couple of weeks.....don't know where the time went. The only thing I didn't see listed was a cardiologist's clearance....I had to do that.....Good luck!
  8. I am choosing the VSG over RNY/DS because my sibling had RNY, and has horrific malapsorption issues, has to get hooked up to an IV to fill in the nutritional gap.....this doesn't happen to everyone, but I worry because our genetics are so close....plus I'm not comfortable with getting parts rerouted What WLS has your surgeon suggested? Good luck whatever you decide!
  9. Welcome, and good luck on your journey. Six months seems like a long time, but it'll fly by. Like someone mentioned, peruse the message board...ask questions. I did pick up the big book on the gastric sleeve.....I think if I had a tablet, I'd prefer to have a download rather than the physical book.....that book is BIG.....the tablet would be easier to cart around, and less conspicuous to read in public, since I'm keeping my WLS quiet......Good luck!
  10. You'll do great......sending cyber {{hugs}}} your way!
  11. I don't even have a date yet, and I'm anxious! LOL The gal that did my pysch eval said she'd be concerned if patients didn't have concerns before having the procedure. Good luck!
  12. I thought you were going to say you'd see him in hell LOL Did he specialize in WLS, obesity, etc? Mine specializes in WLS...She gave me some helpful information.....I would definintely see her if I needed support after surgery.
  13. If you have a walgreens nearby, they may have a 4 pack of the Premier shakes (so you can try them without getting a ton from costco,e tc.)....they aren't bad. I liked the
  14. I have no words of wisdom....I'm pre-op.....but just wanted to say welcome!
  15. One word of advice, please don't say you are having your gallbladder out......in some cases VSG'ers have to have that surgery later on.......that would be a bit difficult to explain if you told them you already had it out......Good luck whatever you decide (I'll keep it to myself, and haven't a clue what to tell people either)
  16. I'm so sorry you have to defend your decision....Some days I want to tell my sister, and some days I don't.....Luckily my husband supports me & is agreeable to keeping mum about it most days [{{wink}}} (he wants me to talk to his mom who is a Nurse....but that defeats the purpose of not talking to people about it LOL) Thank goodness for this website.....Good luck hon!
  17. My understanding is twelve days of Optifast (protein shakes), then 2 days of clear liquids....can't wait! LOL And he expects a 20 pound weight loss....yowsa!
  18. About 2/3 of the way through for me........It'll take about 12 weeks to complete my insurance required appointments/tests......that goes back to the initial informational session to the last NUT appointment (I need 3 for the insurance)....I had to wait for availability for the initial endoscopy consultation, then waited another 2 or 3 weeks before they could schedule the procedure.... They told me I will be there for about 2 hours, but the procedure itself would only take about 2 minutes.....crazy! My surgeon didn't give me an order of what appointment to do first, etc......so I just called and made them as quickly as I could.. Good luck! Just a side note: I have to be at their office at 1:15 p.m. and Istop eating/drinking by 9 a.m.....no other dietary restrictions.
  19. Congratulations.......and thank you for sharing, your post is encouraging for us pre-ops!
  20. And something I found interesting about the pre-op diet.....we all know it's to shrink that liver since they surgeons will be working underneath.....however, the PA last night said it's also to see if patients will follow the diet......because they find the people who follow the pre-op diet are more successful after having WLS....thought that was interesting, hadn't heard that before. Enjoy your day!
  21. Went to the pre-op class last night at the hospital....its feeling a little more real.,....still have 3 more weeks of appointments to finish up. Mostly that class was a review of what I've learned through online/books......but there were a few specific questions pertaining to me that they were able to answer. I started this process April 9th by going to an informational session................and the time has just flown.........When I made my reservation for last night's class, it seemed sooooo far away... Hubby & I had a heart to heart talk last week and discussed pros/cons of WLS---after our discussion, I finally stopped making myself crazy over WLS....I was making myself absolutely nuts until laying everything out.....can't remember who suggested doing a list of pros/cons, but thank you! [although after the class, I think hubby is getting cold feet about this whole thing....he nearly passed out in class]
  22. I just realized today is your day....hope all went well!
  23. That's great! I am so anxious to get through this pre-op stuff and get approved (thinking positively). [Gayle, good luck tomorrow]
  24. I'm so glad I'm not alone....and kudos to those brave souls who bared it all to their loved ones. My husband knows, and one sibling.......still on the fence about telling the rest of my family....DH wanted me to discuss it with his mom who's a nurse, but as you put perfectly, I don't want people to focus on what's on my plate, how much I've lost, etc. and forbid him to mention it to his family either (yup, I'm the enforcer in the family LOL) people are going to talk, regardless....if it's not about weight (too big, too small), it's about something else......so this is something else I'm not handing to them on a platter LOL Thank you all for your input!
