Geminidrive got a reaction from vegasrn27 in carbonation?
My surgeon says no carbonation. (See below.)
Why? In short: The gas in the drink comes out and expands your stomach like a balloon. Your new stomach pouch can be stretched out over time if you drink carbonated beverages after your surgery. What’s more, carbonated beverages – like soda pop, ginger ale, sparkling cider and even tonic Water – increase hunger and contribute to weight regain.
In general, any drink that lists carbonated Water as an ingredient – with or without added flavoring – is on the forbidden list. But this doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to tap water and coffee. Zero-calorie, zero-fizz fruit-flavored waters, such as Fruit2O, are great alternatives for weight-loss surgery patients. You can also try fruit-based “ades”, like lemonade and orangeade. And powdered, sugarless soft drink mixes, like Crystal Light, Wyler’s Light Drink powders, and sugar free Kool-Aid, are all fine as well.
Sadly, it’s not just soda that’s off the menu. Despite its high Vitamin content, fruit juice is a no-go for gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy patients as well. The high sugar content in juice may lead to dumping (and no fruit smoothie is worth that!). And, for anyone who has had weight loss surgery, the fact that most fruit juices are high in calories can cause a major setback when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight. As an alternative, consider beverages flavored with artificial sweeteners, such as Splenda or TruVia, which is made from stevia plant extract. Green tea is not only refreshing, but also good for your health, and there’s not a calorie in sight. The same goes for herbal tea.
In the end, however, it’s always going to be better for you to drink plenty of pure water, and to avoid drinking fluids for 30 minutes before or after a meal so you don’t flush food through your stomach pouch. By follow these few simple tips you can help keep your pouch happy, your body hydrated, and your weight right where you want it!

Geminidrive got a reaction from READY4CHANGE2013 in QUESTION: What made you decide to be sleeved OVER gastric bypass?
I only entertained the sleeve and Band, when I initially decided on surgery I thought I would do the band, but after my due diligence, the sleeve was the best choice. Thus far, no pain, no nausea, and no regrets.

Geminidrive got a reaction from MsBriteEyez in Anyone had surgery and was alone afterwards.
Do you have neighbors or co-workers that can check on you? I live alone, but my brothers live about 1 hour away. My ex-boyfriend checked on me along with my neighbors. I was fine, no pain, no nausea. Just make sure someone checks on you.

Geminidrive reacted to iggychic in Super Low Complication Rates Red Flag?
I SHOULD HAVE ADDED THAT I TOTALLY GET WHY PEOPLE GO TO MX AND HAVE NO ISSUES WITH THAT, BUT THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION IS THAT REPORTING REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT WHAT THEY ARE IN OTHER COUNTRIES (SOME ARE WORSE AND SOME ARE BETTER). SO THAT DATA IS JUST NOT VIABLE. IT'S LITERALLY WHATEVER THE DOC WANTS TO SAY! I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T BELIEVE A DOC WHO SAID THEY HAD A 100% COMPLICATION FREE RECORD BECAUSE THERE ARE COMPLICATIONS THAT ARE NATURAL AND OUT OF THEIR CONTROL THAT JUST HAVE TO HAPPEN EVENTUALLY. THAT WOULD BE A DOC I WOULD AVOID FRANKLY BECAUSE THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE LYING AND IN THAT CASE YOU DON'T KNOW IF THEY'RE LYING A LITTLE OR A LOT!
BTW...MY KEYPAD SEEMS TO BE BROKEN AND I CAN'T GET THE DANGED CAPS OFF! I'M TRAVELING SO I'LL FIX AT HOME, BUT I WANTED TO LET YA KNOW I WASN'T "SHOUTING" VIA CAPS LOL

I was not required to do a pre-op diet. FYI, I had no pain, no gas, no complications post surgery.

Geminidrive got a reaction from want2clessofme in Did you keep your surgery a secret?
We do need to educate people about the surgery. Perhaps it is easier for us to have the surgery, after all we are all having this because sometimes it is damn near impossible to lose the weight after trying other methods and darn it we need to tell the naysayers this. Sometimes a little courage goes a long way!

I told everyone. Why not, it's not a secret. People need to be educated, so If I can educate one person then I'm happy. I have received such a positive response. Co-workers sent me cookbooks, exercise sites, gifted personal trainer consultation and continue to encourage me. I must admit that I'm not the type that leans on anyone for support or need a cheerleader, I typically fly solo, but it's nice to know that others are care.

I don't think so. I had my surgery 10/8 and have lost 64 lbs, I don't think that is slow.

Geminidrive got a reaction from k-rose60 in Not a good day :(
I found after about 2 weeks I couldn't take the chewable vitamins, they made me nauseous. I had to change the Vitamins. I also found out that I can't drink anything cold in the morning, I have to warm up my stomach with tea or room temperature drink.

Geminidrive got a reaction from TakeCareGirl in Friend jealous or unsupportive, or both?
The only way you will know is if you ask her. It seems to me every time someone doesn't acknowledge something we are doing there is an automatic assumption that jealousy is the motive, perhaps it's just indifference. When we put too much stock in what others think of our journey we give them too much power. Ask her or this will continue to annoy you. Good luck!

It's hard to get any doctor to see you after another dr has operated on you. I don't see it being just a Mexico surgeon thing. I wouldn't let her worry you. Write down everything pros and cons and make the best decision for you.

Oh boy, who doesn't completely understand you on this one. My surgery is 2/12. I am very protective of myself emotionally so I really hid it from everyone until I had my surgery date. I only told my partner and my mom early on because... well, it's my partner and my mom! Anyhoo... they are scared and in being scared for my well being... they come across as being not very supportive. I get it. So I haven't really had anyone to REALLY talk to about it. Until one of my co-workers was very interested and expressed to me how hard she knows it must be and wanted to know everything. It was the most I've spoken out loud about this surgery and.... It felt so good! And now... I'm going to go write her a thank you card to tell her how much that meant to me. Changing39.. I hope you can find someone like this!

Absolutely, I go out to eat, it just requires more preparation.
*Drink Water on the way to the restaurant to make sure I get in my Water before the meal
    * Check out the menu before I visit the restaurant to make a healthy choice
*Less is more, less food to eat more time to engage with friends/family
*Food is still good, just less and healthier choices

Geminidrive reacted to Lilee84 in Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
I smell a muddy troll... No doctor in their right mind would sleeve someone with only 20# to lose, and at two weeks out your sleeve can barely tolerate Water and Protein Shakes, let alone alcohol. If this is what you do for entertainment is start drama on a site intended to support those who need it I feel sorry for you.

If you can't abstain from alcohol long enough to let yourself lose weight and heal, then how will you control yourself when it comes to food? Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Your surgeon must be losing marbles, because I don't know what surgeon in their right mind would approve alcohol consumption LESS than a MONTH out. It seems as if you weren't and still aren't in the right mindset for this journey. If you didn't want people coming at you like you have, then you shouldn't of posted something that sounds so incredibly ignorant. To come on here and boldly say that you're less than a month out and enjoying alcohol is bound to attract negative comments.
