Bizarre trend?
First let me say I do not regret this surgery, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I can understand if someone has regrets because of complications, to me that's a natural response. But for the life of me I cannot understand the regrets due to not being able to gorge themselves with food. Why did they have the surgery? The whole concept is to stop you from eating huge amounts of food -- it's like a smoker trying to smoke with a nicotine patch on... it just doesn't make sense! I feel like saying it's not the surgery that's the problem it's you!

successful preop diet- why surgery?
Losing weight was not the issue...maintaining that weight loss was the issue for me. I have lost over 100 lbs with Weight Watchers, diet and personal trainer and each time I gained it all and then some back! I had this surgery to stop the yo-yo dieting!

Discovered the secret to enjoying Protein Drinks
I had to switch to protein bars post op -- I couldn't even look at a shake without gagging...

How much did you lose on preop diet?
I lost 50lbs. I started 3 months before surgery, I followed a high protein/ low carb program from the NUT. 3 weeks before surgery I switched to 2 protein shakes and 4oz lean protein and veg for dinner. Yes I stuck to it 100%, I really wanted this surgery, I started at 338 lbs and was just so done with being unhealthy!

Sleeve date set
I was told to give up carbonation before surgery. I bought a small blender from amazon that I used for the shakes, do yourself a favor try a few now, because it does take some time to find one that you will like. I went with unjury chocolate splendor, you can buy sample sized packs from their website. Good luck!

Bread? Salad?
I was told to wait over 4 months for salad, as for bread my surgeon does not recommend it until you reach goal. Bread is my downfall so I will keep the heck away from it!

eating to much
Relax! What's done is done.. Are you still on the soft stage? Planning should prevent events like your McMuffin Meltdown! Bring Snacks to work, string cheese, Protein shakes, Greek yogurt. Try to have a shake before you leave work, so your not "starving" when you pass McDonald's. Try to remember why you had this surgery in the first place, eating crap like McDonald's is not going to help you achieve your goal of weight loss. Don't wait until you are a breaking point to eat. You can do this, you just have to plan ahead for success!

Uggh! Discouragement From VA Bariatric Coordinator on Mexico Sleeve
Wow, good for you! Stick to your guns and do what's best for you. It's more than obvious that you have done your research -- forget the VA person's negativity and do what you have to do! Good Luck!
