I had tried making Protein off Eggface's Blog before, and was so not happy with it. I tried to split it up into different little containers and freeze. I didn't want to have to thaw out a whole batch to eat some of it. Ended up having to falling out of my freeze, uneven melting, etc. So I gave up on it. That was until another another sleever told me "oh, I just pour mine in popsicle molds". Holy S**T, I said to myself, how come I never thought of that.
So if you are having trouble with protein ice cream or storing it, try freezing it in popsicle molds. Then you just pop out one at a time. Portion Control and a nice yummy, creamy treat!!

I was sleeved March 19 by Dr. Lee Schmitt at St. Vincents. It was such a great experience. I have lost 50 pounds so far. Slow and steady. It has given me control yet I am still able to enjoy food and life more with each passing month.

Silly Phylly got a reaction from Need-a-Sleeve in Roll Call Nurses Being Sleeved ...........
I am a nurse/anatomy/biology teacher. Have struggled with weight all of my adult life, as many other family members on my mom's side. Thanks mama! Nevertheless I have made up my mind and I am going to break this cycle of food addiction and weight gain once and for all. I am getting the ball rolling to have gastric sleeve surgery. As a nurse, it is the only surgery that makes sense to me. Complications seem to be much less and there is really no altering of the alimentary canal. Keeping things flowing the way God intended just makes good sense! Portion and hunger control is what I am after and this seems to be what is going to be right for me. Have conference in a week and pray that my insurance will cooperate. I am already on metformin and have other health issues directly related to the weight. So, all of you praying people out there please add me to your list! I want and need this so bad, not only for myself, but my family as well! Have a new grandbaby and want to be able to take her camping and hiking in the future without MeMe having a stroke along the trail! By the way, hubby is excited that I may actually get his cute little wife back! He didn't say it, but I can sure tell!

During my first visit with my surgeon, he mentioned that he will sometimes dialate the esophagus during the sleeve procedure if he feels it's necessary. You can ask your surgeon, but it seems to be common.

First of all, tell your husband to put down the burger. That is not very helpful to eat it right in front of you. Secondly, in this case, I would say it is head hunger, a craving. It looks good, it smells good, you want to taste it. If you say you are feeling full, then it is your head playing games with you.
I do feel hungry, and I think others do as well. But I can tell you it is not the same as before surgery, and it is usually after I have not eaten for 5 plus hours. I DO still have head hunger and cravings though and that is the toughest part to overcome with surgery. You can have your stomach cut out, but not your brain, and your brain accounts for a big portion as to why you gained weight in the first place. And honestly, my taste buds have not changed. chocolate to me tastes just as good now as it did before. Everyone is different though, and many say that when they actually eat the burger, fried, pizza, chocolate, whatever, it doesn't taste as good.
I do agree about the PPI's (proton pump inhibitors). Sometimes excess acid production can feel like a rumbly tummy, so make sure you talk to your doctor about it.

i haven't been sleeved yet but another poster put this up and it stuck with me. search for "Preops: Ppis Are Important!" She says alot of things and addresses hunger and the use of PPIs.
    Hope it helps. Good luck.

I kinda feel the same, now it seems harder to get to the O. Still getting there usually ...just not as easy I also had read all the post about how they turned into sex maniacs and thought BOY we're in trouble bc I was before LOL. But I do think I'm going to do the saliva hormone testing, been thinking about that for awhile just need to make time to do it at my local pharmacy who performs the test. I fugure my body's went thru some major changes pretty fast so maybe it will all level out SOOONNN!!!

I understand. I was just saying that it may.... without knowing exactly what someone is or is not taking. Just saying. Just giving my $.02 and take it for what it's worth. Everyone is different.
I would much rather be doing stuff lol than picking weeds... I think it's important to look at things that affect your partner as well. If not it may/may not lead to other issues. Think about it as important to them even if it's not to you. Not judging or being an ass, just saying.
Probably should have never even commented on this one...
    Lesson learned.

I think it's a bad idea to ever sabotage yourself to get what you want. That being said, drink the Water before, leave your shooed on, pockets full of change, etc. the metformin IS enough for BCBS in most cases. I know several people approved as pre-diabetic.

Talk to a high risk OB before stopping any meds. Stopping either the Cymbalta or Oxy suddenly could actually be dangerous for you and the baby. Many women take opiate pain meds throughout pregnancy if absolutely needed. The baby will just have to be monitored for a few days. Congrats!

Hello all! This is my first Forum topic. I've been reading your posts and so forth for over a year while mentally preparing to take this step. I'm still scared as hell, but excited too as I know that surgery is the right tool for me. I'll be starting orientation with Richmond Kaiser in a couple of days. So anyone reading this from my neck of the hoods please introduce yourself, I need as much support as possible.
Anywho, on to the question. I've recently acquired a juicer and find juicing to be super delicious and healthy. I'm wondering if anyone out there has used juicing to get some of the nutrients we need after surgery or is it a no no? I've noticed that sometimes the juices I make can be super sweet (Beets, carrots, apple, and parsley juice this morning was like drinking candy! Yummy!).
Thanks for reading. Can't wait to read your responses.

Hi Natty and welcome to VST. After surgery, the primary focus of your diet will be getting in sufficient Protein and eating lower in carbs. I would imagine juice is very carb heavy. However, that being said, I don't worry too much about how many carbs I eat. I eat such a little amout of food now that, by virtue of eating a lot of protein, my carb count doesn't get that high. I don't see why you couldn't incorporate a Protein Powder into your juices. I wouldn't just juice without protein powder though because that is just liquid calories without our VSG'ers most important nutrient, protein. Best of luck to you on your journey.

Today I went to the mall and tried on a pair of 14 jeans and they fit!!! I'm a very slow loser this being my 5th month after surgery and only losing 56 lbs. I was so excited to finally see something that was uplifting! I was a size 20 down to a 14. Time to get motivated!

Thank you all for your speedy responses. It is 6 am now and I haven't been able to get to sleep yet. It has been a long time since I have been pregnant and I am afraid to close my eyes and wake up to find that it was all a dream. I do see a pain specialist and I have an appointment with him on the 7th. I am also on Cymbalta, so that will need to be discussed with my PCP as well. Those are the 2 I am worried about. I have been taking 2 Multivitamins for women since I had my surgery. Plus the Calcium, B12, and D. I am guessing a NUT means a nutritionist? I have been seeing my OB/GYN for the past 20 years and he is very aware of my high risk situation. I am healthier now than I have ever been in my adult life. I am sure they will get my in right away, once the office opens on Monday. This is the down side of finding out it is positive on a Friday night!
