Average calorie intake
I will be 5 weeks post op on thursday and my average is in the low 600's. I think i have hit 700 1 time since i have been sleeved. My fluid intake is pretty low too, around 35 ounces or so. My weight loss has been slow and i was stalled for almost 2 weeks but i am back to losing and i am down 19 lbs post surgery with a total of 44 lbs since my journey began almost a year ago.

Question- In the hospital
I did not have that problem. I personally would ask the Dr. if he is not scheduled to see you have them put a call in.

Support needed, 5 days post op!
Week 1 was pretty hard for me and i was ALWAYS hungry! I was only taking otc pepcid. At my first post op appointment I mentioned it to the Dr and he started me on a prescription strength Prevacid. Well guess what the hunger pangs are gone! At my appoinment last week he told me to take the prescription in the am and to take a pepcid at night. Becuase i have noticed that by 5 or 6 pm i start feeling alot of reflux. Talk to your Dr. at your appointment. As far as Vitamins, I take gummy vitamins and they dont bother me 1 bit. I feel like i am eating gummy bears (sort of satisfies the sweet tooth) And then i also take the B12 which if you really want you can have your PCP give you a monthly shot instead. I also take Vitamin D3 and Biotin (wanna make sure my hair doesnt fall out). I will be 5 weeks post op on thursday and like the other posters said before It does get better, easier, and it becomes a no brainer! Good luck to you!

Questions About Hair Loss and Highlights...3 months post-op
I am a hair dresser and frankly the worse thing that can happen from highlights is that your hair may become brittle/ dry. It wont fall off but if left in your hair longer then needed your hair will become gummy and sort of disintigrate. This can happen to anyone whether they had surgery or not.

pain question
use your heating pad! Sometimes the Gas-x doesnt relieve the gas pain from the gas that is pumped into you during surgery. Heating pad really helps!

Average weight loss 1 month
I am 4 weeks out and have lost a total of 14 lbs. I am a light weight and agree with JP69. The less you have to lose the slower it comes off, as per my surgeon. I have dropped 2 jean sizes though!

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most painful, how severe was your pain? right after surgery i would say around an 8 but by 6-8 hours post op i would say around a 4 Was this pain attributed to gas? gas pains didnt really start until day 3 post op Was this your first surgery/abdominal surgery? no. Had gall bladder and appendix out in '09 in 2 seperate surgeries. Were you nervous/scared prior to surgery? nope Was your surgery performed in a hospital or Surgical center. Hospital How many days were you in the hospital? 24 hours Was your surgery in the US? Yes in NJ What type of support did you receive post-op at home? my kids and hubby but i really didnt need any help. I was able to get up and make my own meals and by day 3 post op i was making dinner for my family Hope that helps!

Shrimp and Tilapia?
after 2 weeks if you are on a soft stage you should be able to eat any flaky white fish. Tilapia, red snapper, and flounder are all great tasting flaky white fishes.

I was told at my last appt I really can't lose any weight(bmi 40) during my 6 month trial
I was actually denied twice. The first time because they sent my paperwork in after only 3 months on the diet. Although Aetna has a 3 month supervised diet my specific plan required 6 months. The second time I was denied because there were some descrepencies in my medical notes. They required 5 years worth of weight history. in 2 of the years the assistants in my pcp put down that i was 5'6 when i was really 5'3. So at 5'6 my bmi was under the 35 mark. So i basically sent them a letter and made a timeline of every piece of paper that i was submitting. They also required a list of all the diets i had been on in 5 years. My letter was a little on the snarky side and bam i was approved a month after sending it.

I too was in your boat but i had about 20 lbs to play with. I just lost the minimal weight i could or stayed the same. I had to maintain my weight for 2 months while we went through the Appeal process. I was finally approved on Christmas Eve and had Surgery on January 9th. Good luck to you!

Do any low BMI-ers regret having the surgery?
My BMI the morning of my surgery was a 36.0 @ 5'3 203 lbs. Although i am only 11 days post op i can't imagine not having the surgery. I like everyone else have done every diet there probably is and i did lose weight but it always came back, so as far as your question about doing it on my own? Been there done that! I know that with this surgery i will never weigh 200+ lbs again. So even though it may be too early for me to regret it I personally can't see myself regretting it at any stage.

Need some advice
Maybe the coffee gave you heartburn?

Need some advice
Dont think so. Because Milk of Magnesium is also good for heart burn. I too was sleeved on the 8th. My question to you is did you get cramps when you took the milk of magnesium... I am having the same problem and right now i am taking mirolax but it hasnt done anything to me yet. Not sure how much longer i can wait!

The journey has just begun...

Just starting the process abd i have a question..
IF you can get a letter from your PCP stating that he/she feels its medically necessary its extra brownie points in your corner. The More Dr's you get on your side the better.

frustrated
I too was sleeved on the 9th. How long were you in the hospital? I think that makes a big difference. I have noticed that people that had a 2 day or more hospital stay had more iv's. then i did. I only had an over night stay. I only gained 5 lbs from the iv's some people i have talked to have gained anywhere from 8-15 lbs during the hospital stay. And dont forget once you stop retaining all that Water the lbs will fly off you. It's too soon to be discouraged! I am happier then a pig rolling in $&(# that i am finally sleeved. I know in a couple of months i will have forgotten about all the gas pain, sharting myself (yes i trusted a fart), The horrible swallow test! and in the end it will be all worth it! good luck to you!

If you had to compare.....
I had my gall bladder out in 2009 and just got the sleeve 5 days ago. I would say the pain for the sleeve was easier.
