Is Sleeve Success Possible Without Exercise?
Yes you can lose and maintain without exercise but you will have to restrict your calories and monitor your daily caloric intake. When we exercise it burns the calories that we eat so with our wt. loss surgery, we are losing wt. rapidly in the begining because we are not consuming the calories we need to. Our bodies are surviving on the huge fat levels we have on them now. After awhile when we start eating more calories, for most people it is 9 months, this is when it gets more difficult to lose wt. and we have to fight to lose one lb. We then have to increase our exercise or not eat as much calories to keep losing. Exercises helps so much to maintain our wt. and fat loss because what you eat today will get burned off tomorrow when you exercise. In your case you will have to continue eating lower calorie foods in order not to gain wt if you don't exercise. In addition, exercise can be adjusted because of your bad knees. Try exercising with your body wts. and maybe using a chair to modify your exercise you can work up a sweat or not so sweat by doing dips, shoulder raises, push up's on your knees in the house. Maybe a circuit training routine of your fav exercises or chair aerobics. Exercise is not needed to lose the wt. but think about what it is doing for your heart, lungs and brains, we should all exercise not just to lose wt. but our bodies love to move and exercise. Good luck to you.

Dumped... 2 Weeks Pre-Op
Thank God you didn't marry him. I bet you had it in the back of your mind that this would happen, bet you weren't even surprised. You said it in your third sentence and it is OK to be afraid. We have ups and downs in life and learn and grow from them. Let this be a lesson learned and choose wiser the next time around. Good luck to you now time to focus on YOU.

Longest Stall Yet
I agree, I've been fighting mine for two months now. I keep going up and down with the same 5lbs so frustrating. I am an exercise machine and watch what I eat. so this too shall pass.

My Suffering After Vsg, Worried, And Scared.
I agree with grannyk 100%. You need to eat for energy and nutrition just like you have to put gas into your car in order for it to drive, you also need food-protien to make your body run and function properly. Food-supplements is fuel to your body so you have to eat and take your vitamins daily. It takes some investment like someone said buy a timer, but a juicer to drink fresh juices which is full of vit and minerals your body needs. When you are out and about with no food on hand stop at wendy's for some healthy chili. Bring some cheese or nuts with you for a snack, etc. Good luck and again it is time for you to take the time to eat properly to invest in your health.

Family Issues
It would be great to have their support but you husband's support is all you need. Drive on and I wish you luck.

Loose Skin
Exercise, exercise, exercise, wt. lifting, body toning classes, push ups and light wts. to tone the upper body. In addition, lunges all types and squats for your legs. Like someone mentioned above It also depends on your genetics, where you store your body fat and your age. I am 45 started out at 250 now 179 and I have no issues with loose skin. Good luck to you.

Spin Bike
Yes it can burn up to 800 cal per class depending on the level and intensity of your workout session.

Spin Bike
My fav workout session. I sometimes spin alone with my ipod if my gym is not having a class. After a while your butt will get used to it and you will ride without that gel seat just fine. Happy losing.

Why Must I Sabotage Myself?
Judy you will be OK just remember that food is not your friend so you will have to break up with him/her in the near future. If you have this problem when you are sleeved then you will have a big issue with your food addiction and it will be time to panic/worry. It is still possible to get in 1700 with your new sleeve also if you eat foods like cheesecake and ice cream, what we call slider foods. Yes you can gobble up a 1/2 gallon of ice cream in one sitting so be careful.

Four Months Out-- Appetite Back And Gaining Weight
Do you have an exercise program? I know that for me it helps with the wt. loss and maintenance. I eat what I want because I know that I will work it off the next day. If I reach a stall and I watch what I eat, (not too much sweets, starches, etc) I know I will lose eventually. In addition, I don't count carbs and I do use real sugar in my coffee if I want without a problem. From what I know and read, it is difficult to maintain and lose our wt. without an exercise program and most people who are successful workout most days of the week. Good luck to you and I hope you fiind the key soon.

I Wish I Could See The Difference!
You are doing great and take pics to measure your progress. This has helped me a lot because I still see myself as the person on the left of my avatar eventhough I am smaller than the photo on the right in the dress. So when I get to a stall like I am now 180, it was 177 last week, I just look at the photo and know that I am still losing.

Arms!
I do good old fashioned push up's and pull-ups. You can first start on your knees and as you progress move on to full push up's. For pull up's I use the pull up machine at the gym. In addition I use smaller wts. 10 lbs for overhead press to work the shoulders as well as arms. Small wts like Lissa said can define your arms.

Dr. Oz On Tv Right Now Promoting Gastric Bipass Surgery
I like Dr. Oz one of his shows was discussing celiac disease, gluten intolerance and allergies. His show helped me discover that I was allergic to wheat/gluten products. He has a lot of good information from a Dr's point of view and I appreciate that.

How Much Should I Be Working Out?
My opinion, 30 min is not enough and 5 min upper body wts is also not enough. Recommend as others have said at least 45-60 min of cardio most days of the week and wt. lifting 15-30 min three days per week. Try to do some leg work like (squats/lunges) to tone up the legs and glutes. Good luck to you and you are doing great.

2Nd Thoughts
It's normal to feel nervous and have second thoughts. You will also change your relationship with food after having 80% of your tummy removed, you won't have the ability to eat huge meals at one time. And for some people like myself, I forget to eat sometimes and I just don't want to eat because I'm not hungry. I now eat for nutrition because I have to eat to remain healthy and nourished. As for making healthy meals, you can do it because you will have to plan your meals like some one else stated (at first liquids, then puree foods, then soft foods, etc). During that time you will be surprised what you can prepare at home (like healthy chili's, stews in the crock pot and learning the best foods with protien (beans, eggs, cottage cheese and such). This is a learning process and you will do great, see you on the loser's bench.

Water Wait Gain
Remember that we also have international people on here and English is their second language. I usually look at the name and realize that they are not from the US. The few that I find full of misspellings and difficult to read I usually don't comment.

My Stupid Question #2 -- Good Calories Bad Calories
Honestly, I don't count calories (and I know I should). I am in the habit of eating what I want, and when I want it, I also work out daily. If I happen to eat ice cream or frozen yougurt or baked whatever, I know I will burn it off the next day. I work out every day for at least 60 min so I know that what ever I eat, I will burn it off during my next workout session. Calories in calories out, bottom line, too easy.
