I was very fortunate. I chose to tell only a few family members and close friends, but each and every one of them were very supportive. I deliberately chose not to tell the people who I knew would be negative.
I have one friend, in particular, who was heavier than I was and after hearing me talk about my upcoming surgery and the reasons I chose to have WLS, she even had surgery herself, five weeks after I did. So, now, we walk together and support each other like only someone who has gone through this process can.

I can relate to your doctor apt. accept with my situation I remember in elementary school, everyone was lined up in the gym, they would call your name, you would go to the nurse, standing there in front of the scale, you would get weighed in front of your entire grade, then have it spoken very loudly to the assistant writing the total down for each student, why she couldn't have just sat by the nurse, but the whole class would know what you weighed, now mind you even though I was taller than most in my class, it didn't matter, my classmates just heard the amount, so then the teasing would start and the staring and the talking about you quietly to someone else as you walked by, I lived this every year til junior high, and the physical fitness tests, well I won't even go there, everyone knows what happens there in gym class when the heavy kid can't do anything. Thanks for sharing.

Sharpie I won't lie, I got stuck several times the first couple of days. In the end, I had to treat it like a fill, not being able to eat solids in the morning, taking very small bites and waiting. Once I did that I was fine.

I agree whole heartedly with Kime - Good luck to you finding a new doctor, find one who cares and will treat you right! Seems like the last one has definitely put a bad taste in your mouth, and you need to be surrounded by supportive people, doctors and nurses included.

First off, this isn't negitive, but this is what I would do. Sit down honestly and write out- bullited what you have done- food, exercise, ect. Go to a nutritionist, get their take, a WLS NUT is worth their weight in gold. They have a lot of insight into how our bodies work and absorb/not absorb things.
PCOS does make a huge diffrence. My BFF has it and her doc would not even consider the band, but said bypass was her best bet. However, now, while the weight is gone, she is having HORRIBLE aborption issues and is sickly because of it. Find another doctor, one who understands the effects of PCOS. Get there advice and research the heck out of it.
Some with PCOS do great with the band, so do great with bypass- I have a former classmate that has lost very little with bypass and has PCOS. So it is really dependant on the person.
Good luck and hold your head high. If you are honest about what you have done, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Keep fighting for your health.

You can do this. You have identified where your problems are and are beginning to work on them.

Could you hang out in town, do a little shopping? Take a book, go to the park and read? Take your camera and find something interesting, go to the zoo? Just thought if you are there that early, you could find something fun to do, and if you have a problem, head back to the office before your long drive home. Or even a night over? Good luck! You will do fine!

People can be so insensitive! I order soup when I go out and ask for a side plate to share with my husband...one or two bites on the side plate, no comments
Why did your pouch dilate? Mine did, just slightly last year when my stoma just closed up, almost completely with very little fill. Since a complete unfill in June, I'm still dealing with band damage to my esophagus. Eating is a pain.
Sorry you're dealing with this, I hope removal goes smoothly, hugs!

Don't ever give up on yourself. I got the band at 61 1/2 and it is the best thing I have done for me and the rest of the world. I can move. I eat in restaurants many times a week and have no problems. Tonight I had salmon from the children's menu and brought 1/2 home. I had lunch with a high school friend last week and did great. I just don't like breakfast out. I did go on Sunday with MIL and 2 of my grandsons and had 1 piece of toast because I had a shake at home.
Have fun with the girls and your husband and enjoy life. I am from Boston and last week sucked here, enjoy yourself!!!!!!!!! Now call the girls for a night out and order smart.

On my left arm I have the scripture John 6:66-69 tattooed as a reminder when being a Christian is really hard, in the end it is the only game in town so I might as well keep moving forward. I think that I am coming to a similar mindset with the band. I have made my decision, and one day I might fail, but today is not that day.
