I confess that I too, think about food way too much, but I know Im not really hungry.
I confess, because of number 1, that I am totally addicted to sunflower seeds
I confess that I drink caffeinated coffee everyday, but add Unjury unflavored to it.
I confess that since I quit smoking in December, I still think about smokes everyday. (prolly explains #2)
I confess I eat chocolate once in a while, but I think that is why I DON'T eat it everyday.
I confess that I USED to get upset about missing my old eating habits, but now Im proud of the fact that I don't give a crap about it anymore
I confess that I lie to my husband when he wants to go out to eat and I don't. I tell him I don't feel like it. The truth is, I have better things to do than to sit and watch him and the boys make 5 trips to the buffet.
I confess that I am secretly amused when my husband eats a big plate of carbs and fat... I just think "Keep going skinny man, one day you wont fit into that chair".
I confess that I am proud of the fact that I am forty something and getting physically fit. I make sure everyone in the house knows I just came from the gym.
I confess that I looked in the mirror way too much today, the first day I have worn size 14s.

My surgery was last Monday. I took two weeks off. Glad I did. Getting bored but get whiped out just showering. I think women have a hard time taking time to heal themselves.

As I read these I was trying to think of not one but which tramatic embarrassing moment to post. Then I realized it still hurts to bad to think about so my mind couldnt come up with the worst. People who have never been 'obese' DO NOT know how something weightwise as young as 7 sticks with you for the rest of your life. Being 41 I still feel like crying when I think of what Ive been through and not being as large as some others I cant imagine shat theyve been through. It literally breaks my heart. After you go through this surgery and change how do you react to overweigt people who have not had it? Do you gave pity for them? Guilt you could get it and not them? Im only in my 3rd week but still getting through the emotional part of it. Glad Im not where I was but afraid of where Im going. Does this make sense and did you go through it too?

I have a lifetime of stories that remind that the one thing more mortifying then feeling invisible because you are fat is feeling like everyone is laughing at you--because you're fat. I started writing some of my personal stories down and what is sad, is that I can remember the names of each one of those jerk bags...but can't remember the names of many of the countless people who have treated me with unsolicited acts of kindness. I hate that I have allocated so much emotional space to those merciless monsters.
But, I wanted to end on a light note-->the bigger your a$$ is/was the more of it there is for all the bullies to kiss.

Full liquid ten days prior is to shrink your liver and prevent "last supper" prior to cutting open. I have a very careful Dr. I also have a place with zero deaths from surgery. I did and will continue to do every single thing they tell me to do. I like being alive.

I actually considered bypass last year when I started seriously looking into all this, but in the end decided bypass as compared to the sleeve was the "easy way out." I too have friends who've had RNY who have put a lot of the weight back on. I had myself convinced that my eating habits were not "that bad," and that my digestive system was just "too efficient," and that bypass would fix that. After plenty of research and soul-searching, I figured if I wasn't willing to do work on MY end, and instead rely on malabsorption for all my losses, that I would not be better off. I also decided the different (and lifelong!) malnutrition risks with each bypass procedure were just not worth it. Very happy with my decision. And down 56 pounds...

Also, I've seen a list of "equivalents to lbs lost" shared often on the good ole world wide web. Here's what the equivalent is for 40 lbs lost:
40 pounds = a 5-gallon bottle of Water or an average human leg
Granted, it sounds nutty but can we stop for a second and think.. a human leg!!!! Or how much a 5-gallon jug of Water would weigh!? That's permanently off from your body - nothing to sneeze at!

Let's try to get some perspective here.
When was the last time you lost 40lbs?
How tall are you? What was your start weight?
Even if your weightloss dropped to 1/2 the rate it has been, you will have lost 100lbs by your 1 year mark.
How much exercise are you getting?
And be aware, a big part of your emotional state right now is because you are losing weight. All that fat that is coming off is releasing more estrogen into your system
    You are doing just fine.
Can you do better? Maybe, that is really up to you.
Don't try to make this a race, this is a life thing.

The best bit of advice I can give is to go and get some cheap, loose, comfortable dresses. Fortunately I have a Lane Bryant outlet nearby and picked up 2 on clearance. The only things I can wear. Anything on waist hurts.
Second bit of advice- get an Ahh Bra.
Third- make sure you talk openly with your partner about their fears. They may be afraid you will leave when you get skinny.
Had surgery on Aug 6th. Doing well. Keep your eye on the prize. Crazy how fast the weight comes off.

I am appalled that people are allowed to have surgery without information. The place I went to had six months of taking classes, attending support groups and reviewing then signing off on information sheets. I wondered why the death across the country is so high but not one at the place I go to and now I know. Come on people, you are responsible for your own success. Why did you do this to begin with? Yes, it's hard but it's temporary. Every day is better than the last. You can do it if you try. It's ok to feel like you feel but it's not ok to put your life in danger for a bite. Think about how crazy that is.

jennrus reacted to Giselle3264 in Discouraged With Your Weight Loss?
I've read so many posts from people who are discouraged with their weight loss because they're comparing themselves to others on the forum. No, we shouldn't do that, but we ALL do. I'm hoping this will help. Instead of looking at just the number of pounds someone has lost, look at the PERCENTAGE of their original body weight they've lost. For example, someone who weighed 400 pounds and lost 100, has lost 25% of their body weight. Great job! But if another person weighed 260 pounds and loses 65 pounds, they've also lost 25% of their body weight. That's also a great job!
Yes, gender, age, and biochemistry also matter. But hopefully this will help you put things in perspective. I try to remember this when I'm comparing myself to someone else. Continued success to you!

You could have gone for extreme liposuction. They go in and remover every bit of fat from your body. Of course, the shock kills you but you do lose the weight and look better except for the skin.
Seriously, it won't happen in the now, you know that.
You need to gain as well as lose.
You lose weight but have to gain wisdom.
Wisdom about how to treat yourself.
You need to endow yourself with a great big chunk of patience.
When you look in the mirror, see someone you love and are rooting for.
Be your own cheerleader, be squarely on your own side.
What other people think and say only affects you if you let it.
What you think and say about you is what matters.
Being thin will not make you happy. I know lots of skinny sad sacks.
Happiness comes from within, being at peace with yourself, and from the heart of God.

jennrus reacted to O.T.R. sleever in Advancing Post Op Diet Too Quickly?
The problem here is that your stomach is still basicly numb. You likely won't feel anything till its too late. You are only 5 days out, scrambled eggs aren't till stage 3(for most of us) and the likelihood is @ 5 days your prescribed diet still has you in stage 1(clear liquids).
Thats not exactly bending a rule, that's pretty much total disregard.
Don't get me wrong, I am a rebellious type and a risk taker. I accelerated through my phases faster than I was supposed to. But keep in mind, that your saple line won't be healed till 6weeks post-op, and any chances you take up to that point have a signifigantly higher level of risk
I don't know why you went to mexico, whether it was just easier to self pay than to fight the insurance co, or maybe like me, you don't have insurance.
Here s something to factor into he equation. Can you afford an emergency surgery & ER bill. Even if the answer is yes, is it really worth it for an egg? BTW at 3 weeks out, when I tried eggs, I still couldn't eat a whole one.
I know this is not easy, you've gotta be strong. It takes so much more strength to stick with he plan.
