I had my 2nd fill this afternoon. I am not at 4.5 cc's. I had only lost 5 lbs since my last visit, which my doctor said was good since I was basically doing it on my own. The doctor said that the scales can be deceptive, but she knows I am losing weight due to how much she is able to put in my band at one time. Thankfully I didn't pass out this time, she pushed the fluided very slowly this time as to not stimulate vagus nerve. I am glad I took the step to get my band. This journey isn't always easy, it's not alway fun, but it is worth it. I am proud of myself for sticking to an exercise routine, for having will power to stop stuffing my face. I wish I would have to ahead and gotten my band 5 years ago when I first looked into it. I just hope that I did it soon enough to prevent any of the health problems I was heading towards. One of the things I have learned now that I didn't know before is - food is still good, but it can be even better when you don't gorge yourself on it!!
  2. It's common, likely a little capulary was nicked and caused a bruise and a bruise always hurt due to inflamation.
  3. Awesome!! I had lapband surgery performed by Dr. Yoo June 22nd. I didn't do plication, but I still hope I do as well as you are doing. I love Duke Weight Loss.
  4. Yep, I did - they were recommended to me. I didn't have any problems. They are about the same size a one of my perscriptions that I had to take and the doctor told me that was fine, but nothing any larger.
  5. I started my journey at 244 and I have a bike. My husband and I love to ride on a river trail near our home. The best thing to do is go to a good bike shop not walmart. Have them recommend something. The best thing to do is buy and larger seat, which is what I did.
  6. I really like the myoplex shakes and the atkins shakes are good to. SF popcicles are great after surgery and different flavors of Jello. I know some people couldn't have jello after surgery, but I could, it was on my list. I also found that I like to put my Protein shake in the blender with ice and blend it, it makes it think and kinda like a milk shake. Also
  7. Carolina girl is right on. Eating to fast will get you everytime. If you have a difficult time with slowing down try putting you fork/spoon down between bites. I know they say do be distracted while you eat, but I fix my plate with my one cup and sit down with the hubs at night. I will take a bite, put down my fork and listen to him tell me about his day while I chew and chew and chew. Then another bite. I takes me about the same amount of time it takes him to eat, but he eats twice as much if not more than I do.
  8. Amen sister!! I think all banders feel like this on at least one day, and if they say they don't, likely they are lying. This has not been an easy process. I have lost 25 lbs since surgery on June 22. Most of the weight came off the first month, the last few weeks it's just been 1 lbs a week even though I have a large calorie deficit. Some days are major frustrating and some days it's awesome. You are right when I see a skinny chick eating a big milkshake or a yeast roll, I want to slap her However, I want to loose this weight so I will discipline my self and count my calories and once the weight is gone I will enjoy shopping.
  9. my doctor said that the average is about 5 to 6 cc's people reach their sweet spot, but that is just an average.
  10. I had to have my gallbladder out last year, emergency surgery, then I had lapband this year. My surgeon though required if you did still have you gallbladder that you have an ultrasound of it, if you had stones he would remove it at the same time, because if he didn't you would likely have to have it removed in the near future. My gallbladder surgery was a breeze compared to lapband.
  11. My surgeon does plication, but said he didn't feel like I needed it. He said he would do it if I really wanted, but he didn't feel the extra risk was worth it for me. Now I wish I would have done it. I am 8 weeks out and lost 25 lbs and the last 5 have been a real struggle. Going in for another fill tomorrow hope this will help me stay full longer.
  12. I understand, I am the same way. But, with this surgery I said for once I am going to be selfish and I am going to take care of me. I purchase meals for the hubs that he could easily prepare himself. The only thing I did was take care of me for a few days and frankly that is all I had the energy to do. Once I was feeling better though I felt like I could takle the world. My hubs was like, geez did they implant an energizer bunny in there or something.
  13. 1- When I had surgery I felt rough for about 5 days then started feeling better. Unless the kids are super extra good you will need some help for a few days. You are not suppose to lift over 10 lbs, that was my post op orders, for 3 weeks. I could bend, but it hurt for about a week. 2-I was able to go up and down stairs fine with no problems. Walking post op is really good for you. 3-You can drive as soon as you are off meds. I had surgery on Friday and was driving again on Tuesday, but not long distances. 4- I would say give your self at least 5, people will tell you they took less - I tried to, but just couldn't do it. You are on liquids when you come home and my energy level was nada for the first 5. 5- You can't lift anything over 10 lbs for 3 weeks or at least that was my post op orders. I wouldn't let my 18 lbs cat walk on me, you are pretty sore. I would keep them off, just try to get them to lay close rather than on you. Keep in mind you are going through surgery, you body will be in shock afterwards and will need some time to heal and recover. I have had 3 other surgeries in my life- I recovered quicker for all of those than this one. One year before lapband surgery I had my gallblader removed, I was back up and perfect in about 3 days, this surgery it took 5 before I felt like a human again. But this was just my experience. For each person on this site you will get a diffrent story- each person is different.
  14. I would call the doctor, but likely it is because the scratched the air passages during intibation. I use to work in the hospital and it was common after extibation for patients to have this. But reporting it to the doctor will not hurt.
  15. Awesome, so glad things are on go!
  16. I have two. One is to finally be happy with the way I look, it's time I am in control not the food or fat. Two is my health- I don't want to be diabetic like my dad or have a stroke at 40 like my brother. I want to be healthy so I can enjoy a long life with my wonderful husband.
  17. I had the same fears. My family has huge holiday get togethers. But, instead of gorging myself like others do, I eat what satisfys me and then I talk to those around me or play with the kids. It really wasn't as bad as I thought. Plus most people don't even notice what you are or aren't eating they are to busy stuffing their face or talking. One way to really curb yourself at resturants is once you are done eating rather than letting the plate sit in front of you is the way at the watress when she walks by and either get a doggy bag that can be out of site or out of mind or get her to take it away- this is what I have to do.
  18. I was told to wake 48 hours before showering and then I could shower, but no tub baths for 2 weeks.
  19. My surgeon told me that I could loose as much weight as I put the work in to loose. The average weight lost is 40-60% of excess body weight, however that is an average meaning some loose less, some loose more. I would recommend finding a different surgeon, you need one on your side who will be supportive. Carbinated beverages aren't difficult to give up post op. I thought it would be bad, but I really don't want them. I took a few sips of my hubs dt dew the other day and it caused belly pain, so I don't want to drink it. Crystal light has wonderful flavor packs. Steak- some are able to eat it some aren't. Each person is different and until you are at the point to try it you won't know. Any meat you eat though will need to be tender, so a tough steak would like cause problems. But a nice tender cut of steak you should be able to handle.
  20. My nutritionist said about 1 cup total. Your are so right, pre band me would have said your are crazy only eat 1 cup of food and be satisfied. Now I feel like that is possible with out me turning into an evil witch.
  21. I don't really fill like I am in Bandster hell. The only time I ever get really hungry is in the mornings. Most of the time a small about of food 1 to 1.5 cups of food fill me for at least 3 hours if not 4. However, I know I could eat more, but I choose not to. I do go back for a fill on Thursday, I hope they give me a small one, I have not had any problems yet and I don't want to get to tight and have major problems.
  22. When I wanted to rest, I would heat a towel in the microwave for 1 min and lay that over my belly and it would soothe the soreness and allow me to rest well. I hate pain killers so I never too the perscription. Gel packs also work well, you can get them in medical stores or Walmart, you can heat them per directions and lay that over the area. It really helped me.
  23. I love fruit and I use to eat fruit for Snacks, especially in the summer. On Friday I will be 8 wks post op and have only slight restriction. I tried a banana yesterday for mid-morning snack, around 9:30 (I eat Breakfast at 5:30), but an hour later I was starving, I had a Fiber one 90 cal brownie so I ate that which curbed the hunger and I made it to lunch at 12:30. Is fruit just slider and to be avoided? I try to avoid slider foods because I know they are non filling calories, but I do hate to lose my fruit. What have your experieces with fruit been?
  24. Google any doctor you consider. I look up their ratings and also check to see if they are certified in baratric surgery instead of being just a general surgeon.
  25. Yep, you still have gas trying to get out and you are still swollen. It took me about a week to feel normal aside from being able to eat. However, if you are having productive burps you may want to call your doctor, indigestion can cause problems. I was told to have malox on hand for indigestion to keep it from getting bad. The indigestion can cause your stomach to get irritated and prolonged indigestion can cause your band to slip.
