Getting Frustrated
I went to the seminar for the Lap Band on August 9th. At that time my husband was not on board with the surgery. Since then, he is ok with it. So thats a big sigh of relief and I feel so much better about it. But I was told at the seminar that I would hear from the Doctors office within a week to schedule my 1st appointment and its been over 2 weeks and I havent heard anything yet. I called them this past Thursday, when it had been 2 weeks and they said they are running behind. Well I wanna get the show on the road here! I have to lose 10 % of my weight before I can get the surgery (like I am sure most of you had to do) and I was told not to start trying to lose that weight until my 1st appointment! I am just starting to feel like this is never going to happen. First my husband didnt support it,now he does and now the Doctors office is taking its sweet time! Did anyone else run into this issue? How long does it usually take once you start your appointments and everything, until you had your surgery? I just want to get this new chapter of my life started!

Any Suggestions On Ways To Help Avoid Excess Skin??
I havent gotten the surgery yet, but my one worry is having excess skin. I weigh 265 and am 5'5. I dont plan on getting down below 150, I never wanted to be skinny minny, just thinner and healthier. So I plan on losing about 115 pounds. My belly hangs already and my upper arms are already pretty big. So those are the two spots I am worried about and I know those are also what my husband is worried about too. I heard that there are certain excercises and things you can do to help tighten your skin as you lose the weight to help prevent it from hanging so much. Does anyone have any experience in this, any tips on what worked for you, in preventing it? I am so excited about the surgery but cant help but to be worried about this at the same time. Thanks.

Went To Seminar, Confused And Have Some Questions
So, I went to the seminar finally but I am confused now. The Dr that did the seminar says that with the lapband, you only lose about 30-40 pounds? My goal was to lose about 100-115 pounds. I feel like it is pointless to get the lapband if I will only lose 30-40 pounds with it. Another thing that he said, which isnt a big deal to me but my husband pointed it out to me was that you wont be able to eat steak or drink carbonated beverages afterwards? He says that steak is to tough to be able to chew it down small enough to swollow it and that carbonated beverages make you bloated and stretch out your stomach? I never heard any of this on any of the sites or boards I came across while researching this so I dont know if this is all a bunch of crap or what. I feel kind of bummed about it, I mean I was really excited thinking that I was going to be able to lose 100 pounds with help from the lapband then I get told that you only average 30-40 pounds. Is there any truth to this?

Today Is My Seminar/husband Still Not Supportive
Tonight is finally my Seminar, I am excited to finally begin my journey to get the lapband. My husband still isnt on board. I am planning on bringing him with me tonight, hoping that it will help teach him about it and hopefully make him see it will be ok. He told my mother in law about it, she is against it also so now I have 2 of them ganging up on me. They think its unnecessary and dangerous. They have never been 265 pounds, So they dont know how necessary it really is! He tried playing the "I will tell our daughter that I told you not to have the surgery done" card on me, when he was trying to talk me out of having it done. For some reason he seems to think I am going to die during surgery. He keeps going back and forth over coming with me tonight, like if he doesnt come, I wont go or something. It is very discouraging not having his support. Have any of you had this problem with your spouse? Did they change their tune and end up being supportive? What should I expect at the seminar tonight? They say it lasts 2 hours. Thanks!

Dont Know What To Do :-/
I have been going back and forth over having the lap band surgery done, I didnt want to tell my husband until I was certain. Well I decided to have it done! I wentto my Dr today, and scheduled the orientation for August 9th. Then I told my husband. He is less than enthused. He says he likes me how I am (265 lbs!) I hate how I look, I want to lose the weight. He asked me how much I wanted to lose, I said I wanted to get down to like 150 lbs. He freaked out saying thats waaaaay to much. I want to be happy when I look in the mirror. He says he will support my decision in whatever I do but I feel like I need some other people to support me and actually mean it, I guess. I am frustrated. I was so excited.

Not Sure If I Wanna Tell My Family And Friends
I made the decision to have the lap band surgery. I have my 1st appointment scheduled for August 9th. I have been thinking though, and I am not sure if I want everyone knowing about my decision. My mom is very judgemental and quite frankly I dont feel like listening to what she has to say about it. So obviously if I dont tell her, I cant tell anyone in my family because they all talk! My family doesnt understand, they are all skinny! They dont see how it could be so difficult to lose the weight, because they have never had to try! While I still have yet to decide what to do about telling people, I just have a couple questions. Did any of you decide not to tell people? How long are you usually in the hospital? Pretty sure that it might make it harder to keep it a secret if I will be there any length of time!

Scheduled My Orientation
I went to my primary care Dr today and she was all for the lap band surgery! I called the Dr that will be doing it and scheduled my Orientation! It is set for August 9th. I was told that I have to lose 10% of my weight before I can have the surgery. My question is, do I start doing that now, or do I wait until after orientation? Is it hard to lose the 10%? What did you all find as the easiest and quickest way to lose it? I am going to have to lose about 26.5 pounds as of right now. I can schedule my surgery after losing 5%. How long should it take me to lose that weight? I am so excited, I cant wait!!

New Here..lots Of Questions
Thanks everyone for your answers!!! I am 32, 5'5", weigh 265. I would like to get down to 145-150. I have 3 children, had 2 vaginally and 1 by c section. I made an appointment for Monday, to talk to my doctor about the surgery.. Hoping she is for it, I am sure it will make things easier!! I think one reason I am so worried about the loose skin is because my husband mentioned it and I am afraid of looking "gross" to him.

New Here..lots Of Questions
Hi my name is Shannon, I am 32 years old and have been overweight my whole life. I have contemplated lap band surgery several times, the only thing that makes me hesitant about it is what I have heard about ending up with a lot of loose skin. I am planning on calling my Dr tomorrow to schedule an appointment to talk to her about the surgery and hopefully after that, I will be able to begin my journey to weight loss once and for all. I guess what I want to know is, what does this entail? I have found several sites telling me what the surgery is, but nothing about what you need to do to get there. I have heard several different things, some people say that you need to lose a certain amount before you can have the sugery, some say you dont. I just wanna know what you went through from that first appointment, until you had the surgery and how long do you have to wait to have the surgery? How many of you had to deal with the loose skin and if you didnt end up with it, how did you prevent it? I am just scared that I will end up with loose skin and be more ashamed of how I look than I am now, being overweight. I would love for someone to talk to, that has been through this. Thanks so much.
