Adding something to food to help it slide through the band defeats the purpose of the band. Its usually best to wait a few minutes to allow stuck food to break down and pass thtouhh the band.
Learning to eat small bites and chew chew chew is the best way to avoid getting stuck.

I've had and have similar concerns.
I contemplated and have given thought to this decision for many months.
I plan on personally moderating the new community as well as adding new mods (if necessary) to make sure everyone is getting along.
I will have ZERO tolerance for members breaking rules.
I consider myself a Lap-Band success.....I will have a zero tolerance for member bashing or bullying Bandsters. I have your back
I think that's enough I's for one response.

Banded Dan reacted to readysetg070113 in pre work out meal suggestions ???first time puking during a work out :(
Yes I know puking is bad.. I started this new high intensity training class at the gym. I got severe abdominal cramps and then i threw up slightly and some other issues as I am a lady Ill spare the details. The trainer does not know i am banded and I usually don't eat before working out cause my system doesn't like early morning meals. usually my Vitamins and coffee pre workout and then Protein post workout. Im not worried I hurt my band as it was minimal and I don't vomit often. I handled my bathroomish business a missed one loop of the training and then continued to do class . He said I must eat a little something prior to this class as my body needs fuel. One trainer suggested Peanut Butter on a piece of toast I Was wondering what other's eat. My initial thoughts is a Protein Shake as i do best with liquids as soon as I wake up. My NSV is I'm not giving up on this class. Its supposed to be an 8 week transformation program. I measured my self today to track changes. I plan by week 8 making it through with no issues what so ever:)
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I did not want my wife to get the surgery 7 years ago but the more research she did and shared with me it started making sense. I even went to a seminar with her. I always thought losing weight was about Will power as well.
Six years ago we both got a lapband on the same day.
She kept 90 lbs off and I have kept off over 125 lbs off.

I saw this happen with my mother (from my dad) and now my mom wants to do this to me. My mother was on weight watchers and lost 50 pounds then hit a plateau...so she joined a local gym. Then my father joined the same gym and lost weight and unknowingly sabotaged my mothers progress. My mom left weight watchers then the gym and has gained some weight back. Now my mom has seen my weight loss and yes is happy for me, but now it is weird. I have been on many "diets" and have been successful for a while, but eventually gain the weight back. But this time it is different, my HEAD and HEART are in the game. I pray for continued success everyday (and for all of us that struggle with weight) but this journey is one that I think I have to travel on my own.

I had 4 weeks of liquids after surgery, so it could be worse than your 2 weeks
The reason is because your stomach has been sutured, manipulated, and wounded. If you don't follow your post op diet exactly, you are putting yourself at very high risk for complications such as ripping stitches in your stomach.
Your stomach needs time to heal.

You really should follow the protocol even if you are feeling frustrated. Most of the Lap Band complications are due to people not following the directions. In my oppinion, two pounds isn't really a "gain" but more of a notice to try and have less salt, carbs, etc. Also, even though you are eating all those healthy things, could be the calories are adding up so be sure to keep track, I use myfitnesspal.com
Be kind to yourself, our bodies fluctuate. After a rough day I see the scale and have to remind myself that no it's not possible to really have gained weight in less than a day, it's just my body reacting to what i ate.
    Good luck =)

if you are about to start, its most likely Water weight...and as cheryl said, some Soups have alot of sodium so you mix that with period water, and you got a gain...i can easily gain 5 to 10 pounds of water on my TOM.....also agree with cheryl in letting your insides heal and not eating until your dr advised you it was okay...keep sipping/drinking, that will help

You really need to let your stomach heal because the band is sutured to your stomach and the movement of digestion makes the stomach move that is why you are on the post op diet you were given. Give your band time to adhere to your stomach. Just because you are eating fat free Soup it could be loaded with sodium causing you to have Water retention. I would not be going to eating solid foods if your doctor said not to. People who don't listen to there doctors either end up in problems or failing. Its not worth the risk.

Sincerely, thank you all for the kind words. I met this little girl last year at Halloween. She was 4 at the time. A big group of us friends all showed up to a neighborhood to take the kids door to door and she was a new kiddoe to the group. As soon as they told me who she was and what her story was I instantly fell in love with her and knew she just had to be mine and added to our family. Well, we made some phone calls and she ended up moving in with us in April. She is 5 years old now and amazes me everyday. She has overcome so much adversity and survived a walk through the gates of hell. Her passion for life and desire to unconditionally love another person is truly inspiring.

They're actually right. Eating soft foods because you can't eat solids means you definitely aren't ready to be even tighter. The band works best if you can eat solid Protein because that's what's going to keep the hunger away for 3 - 4 hours. If you're eating soft food, you're eating 'around the band'. If you can't eat anything BUT soft foods, you're showing signs of being too restricted and another fill is the last thing you need right now.
The band isn't supposed to be so tight that all you can ingest are things that 'pass' through the band. Being at that point is actually counter-productive to weight loss. If you can't eat solid food, you need to communicate this with your medical team and discuss options.

Thank you Missy. There are bound to be many others like me who become defensive of the 4cc band and surgery in Mexico. Thinking back I don't know what could have persuaded me to just wait it out and have the surgery done here. Don't ever stop trying. If you can even prevent 1 person from going, you have done well. Dr. Kuri's patient advocate called me this afternoon to see how I was doing and apologized for the doctor's behavior.
    It's been quite a week.
To those that asked about whether I ever vomited and the answer to that question is Yes. I spent more days on liquids then solids because of it. So it is likely the combination of the vomiting and the way it was stitched both contributed to the slippage. I never had much fill in the entire 9 months and more often then not, Fluid was being removed within a day or 2 of a fill.
I am anxious to speak with my surgeon to get the whole picture because when he talked to me in recovery I was pretty out of it. My mom is the one who told me what he said about it being a mess and something not right about how it was stitched.

It is perfectly normal to be hungry at the stage you are at. Your tool is not in effect yet. Seems like a lot of people say the 3rd fill did it. I felt some restriction after the third fill. Congrats on your surgery. Hang in there with the restricted diet- you can do it! Congrats on your weight loss as well. Keep up the good work!

My personal fear with drinking and drunkenness is getting too drunk or too hungover to the point I'm heavving my guts out and causing my band to slip! One beer or one glass of wine and I'm done.

I must put this out there. I was banded in 08, went from 272 to 185 and loved it. Then life hit me smack pat in the kisser. My husband lost his job & we moved to a very 420 friendly state - literally. South FL to Vermont and I was clinically depressed so I utilized the good ole' for depression - without a "wake & bake" I wouldn't do anything. Once I par took I was up doing my thing get a groove on. However, I ruined my band. Just found out its slipped and being taken out. Now can I say it was from the EXCESSIVE DAILY "medical mary" - no, but I coughed like a fiend! I got stuck because yes the munchies do happen, but Ben & Jerry's was my main friend. Now I didn't gain my weight until recently, but I'm not certain it wasn't to my failed attempts at living normal in a bad place. Now my sad news - band is coming out, hopefully insurance is going to pay for revision to the sleeve, not sure yet and I've gained - 242lbs is my current weight. All I'm saying here is pay attention to your choices and make good ones. A drink, red wine, no vodka tonics, or rum & cokes - leave the carbonation out, and a little puff-puff here and there is one thing, but make good life choices - SPOKEN FROM SOMEONE WHO'S been there, done it. I'm more sad now buying "Fat clothes" again. All said with love

Nana I don't think you get it. It's not what you're saying, it's how you're saying it. I have been known to be a bit short myself at times, and I won't lie, I get frustrated too, but I think what everyone is trying to say is that you make it out like you know better than ANYONE else, and I'm sorry, I don't think that's true. You may have read heaps, been through heaps, but I can assure you, others can read, others have experience too. But anytime anyone has a difference of opinion from you, you immediately revert to "oh wait til you've had your band as long as me". That's not helpful and it alienates people. Pulling that card out has a time and place, not as a counter-argument for every single time someone disagrees with you.
I have been banded 5 years now. I am, by all accounts, a successful bander. My one complication was not from non-compliance and I have no physical damage as a result of being long term banded. Yet I try (mostly) to relate by telling posters of my own experiences and letting them make their own minds up. Read my posts in this thread alone as an example.
I tossed up replying to you, and did in the end because I think you have masses of great information that could assist but you need to work on your delivery. Hell, so do I sometimes. So take this as constructive feedback from one vet to another.

Jjuuuustttt kidddddinggg!!!! LoL. It can be somewhat weird to slow it down, after all, our old way of eating was more like "devouring". You'll get the hang of it (I'm still learning). For now, I rather be quiet while I eat so I can concentrate on what's happening with my plate. After every bite I swallow, I DO do a mental check and ask myself: "am I still hungry" like it was mentioned above.

    Cool question!
I've been fortunate to experience a lot of them. They include:
    -Sitting in a booth
-Flying on plane without needing a belt extension
    -Going on carnival rides
-Not being the biggest one in the room
    -Wearing non-plus size clothes
-Seeing the scale go into Onederland
The only one I have left is to hit my goal

Weight loss comes down to simple math- when you burn more calories than you consume you lose weight. Unfortunately eating smaller amounts of food doesn't necessarily mean less calories. If I were you, I'd start tracking calories so you can be sure you're not accidentally eating too much and will start losing weight again.
    Best wishes.

I travel often for my job, and now I am starting to visit clients that I met before, but haven't seen me since the surgery. I visited one of those last week.
When I entered the guy's office, he looked at me kind of surprised, then his face turned a little sad. He looked me in the eye and quietly said, "Death or divorce?"
Confused, I asked him what was he talking about.
He said the only time any male friends of his lost this much weight, it was because they were "trolling for new fish". Therefore, his assumption is was I was baiting the hook with some new meat.
I hadn't laughed so hard in a while......
