  1. Most people are very apprehensive prior to surgery. I was told once that it is due to the fact that we are losing control of ourselves when we undergo anesthesia. Some are afraid they will never wake up. When in fact, that is the easiest sleep to be woken from, as they do have drugs to revesrse the effects of anesthesia if needed. Also, it is a very controlled environment, one in which all vital signs are monitored, and the ariway is kept very patent. Most people never die during an operation, the ones most likely to, are the ones with a pre-existing condition, such as a very bad heart, that can not take the stress of surgery.
  2. I recently read on one of these posts that shows the surgery, in fact this came from the surgeon, not in the same words, but something to the effect of, the band encourages us to stay with the program, and keep up the work. If unbanded, many pt's. quickly revert to their old ways.
  3. The idea of the lap band is to lose the weight more slowly, and steadily. Bypass pt's lose the weight much faster, due to a malnutrition process.
  4. You are doing fine. Just think, you are losing, not gaining. Me, at a standstill. Hoping first fill helps. Stick around, you will learn a lot here.
  5. Welcome! Good for you, Take it easy for a few days, and you will soon feel great...........
  6. Welcome, there is a lot of good information on this forum. The goods and the bads, the pros and cons. Many different sides to each person's experience, which will help in the long run, I believe. Good luck to you in youir goals!
  7. You can be proud of yourself! Congrats.........
  8. Welcome and good luck to you. I don't always get in this section, between running around the house, work, etc. I am glad you are getting your pre-op problems taken care of, that will ease your mind somewhat. Good luck and keep us posted...........
  9. Oh my gosh, it does sounds as though he were after someone! Good luck to you, you need it...........
  10. I was same day surgery, too. Surgery too about 1 hour. Was sent home on lliquid Lortab (Vicodin). Needed it until the following day. Then it helped with the rib and shoulder pain later. Doing great now, 3 weeks later. Good luck, keep us informed how things go..............
  11. I was hungry almost from day one! Really need that first fill!
  12. Mine was same day surgery. I believe I was home by about 3PM that same day.
  13. My port area was a little hard to get used to, also. Very aware of it, and it was hard to bend over, felt as though it wanted to pop out. That is much better now. It took almost 3 weeks for total discomfort to go away. What lasted for me, was the gas type pains in my shoulder and left rib area. They are finally now gone.
  14. I loved my Diet Coke, too. I had switched to Caffeine Free years ago, so I did not have the headaches. I do miss it, but I have been very good, and sticking with the Crystal Light. Diet Coke has been associated with osteoporosis, among other things, and I do want to watch out for that, also.
  15. Haven't totally decided what I might do yet. Still have a ways to go. However, the fitness center thing is new for me.
  16. Let me know if you find it. I am curious about that one............
  17. The fitness center is new for me. I am really working at it, too. Need to keep up with it, hopefully for life!
  18. Most of that weight gain is from the IV fluids. Saline is one of the solutions hung, and that tends to make things a little puffy for awhile. They also most likely ran at least one bag; 1000cc, or maybe close to two, depending on blood loss, time involved in surgery, etc. Also the stress of surgery on the body, can cause it to retain some fluids. Wait a good week or so before weighing yourself.
  19. If she is vomiting coffee ground looking material, that is old blood, and comes from the digestive tract. That needs to be looked into, and soon, I would hope. Good luck, and let us know how she does...........
  20. Oh my gosh, mine makes those noises too, since I had the surgery!
  21. Geeze, this is not the easiest road to take, is it? Being a bandster is tough, and kinda trial and error. Some of us are hungry, some are just right, others are too tight. I wish we could all just hit that happy medium, who knew going in that it would be like this? I should have read more support group stuff, before surgery; or then again, maybe it's better I did not!
  22. I was just showing my husband my card tonight. Got it from my doctor. Have not tried to use it yet, but it appalls me that certain places will not honor it. No wonder America is getting heavier and heavier! The servings are astronomically huge.
  23. I believe that every laproscopic procedure has pictures taken. I was handed my pictures from my colonoscopy, (yuch). Did you have to ask for the pictures, or did he just give them to you?
  24. Fantastic Jonathon!! I know, hubby has problems buying clothes in Wal Mart and is always happy when he does not have to go to a specialty store, and of course pay a lot more! Lizrbit; that makes sense about the scar tissue, it always did feel like it wanted to pop out, but I am getting more used to it, everyday. MIchelle, I don't really have much tenderness to my incisions, unless the dog jumps up at me when I enter the house! Stay on the bandwagon gang, we can not fall off!!! LOL
