Your Recommendations In Prep For The Sleeve...
You've probably heard these, but here's a list of things I did and wish I had did more! •Drink lots of Water, get used to it •stop drinking soda, lower caffeine intake •don't drink during meals (easier said than done) •try different Protein Shakes, don't buy in bulk...your taste may change •start walking and keep walking •take pictures weekly, you'll be amazed at the results! •don't "live by the scale, die by the scale", limit your weigh-ins •vitamins, Vitamins, vitamins! •don't eat late at night, set goals to gradually lower your night eating •many small meals, not a few big meals •get small containers, baggies, shake containers, blender, food scale Hope this helps! Good luck on your journey!

Does Anybody Drink A Protein Shake Before Bed?
Eating before bed is such a hard habit to break...but not impossible. I don't drink protein shakes before bed. I drink one in the morning and at 3pm. I started making goals about eating at night (one of my biggest downfalls) after I was sleeved. First, nothing after 9pm, then 8:30, now I'm at 8pm. If you could drink it earlier, I think that would be much better for you

Grits And Eggs!
I'm a southern girl, so I love my grits too! Every Sunday I meet my brother for breakfast at Bob Evans. I USED to get the "cardiac arrest with a side of diabetes". Now I get a cup (which takes me 2 meals to eat) of grits and 2 turkey sausage links (eat one, take the other one home with the grits). They also have a great veggie Egg Beater omelet that I get sometimes (only can eat 1/4 of it though). Have fun discovering "new" foods!

Can't Get My 64 Oz Of Water In!
One of the HARDEST things to do is get the 64oz in. I love Crystal lite in water. Don't forget to count broths/soups, popsicles, coffee, tea, milk, ect. as liquids. Start with an attainable goal then gradually work your way up. All we can do is try each day!

When Did You Start Protein Drinks After Surgery?
I was drinking protein whey shots (30g) that come in a tube in the hospital. They were tolerable. My Dr. said protein is a MUST, and I have been drinking Premier Protein (30g) or EAS (17g) 1-2 a day from day 3. My goal is to get 70-100g of protein in daily, and I do 95% of the time . You can always ask your Dr. again if you have any questions. Just like we are all different on here, so is some of the Dr. advice...

Yes, I did. I also had to do the 2-week pre-op diet. My Dr. was very thorough and wanted to make sure everything was fine.

Dreams To Reality!
If you have exhausted every option to lose weight and be healthy, then this is a great TOOL for weightloss, not a MIRICLE procedure. Ultimately, you have to do what's right for YOU. It looks like you've been doing your research which is great. One piece of advice Id give is to get your head right about the relationship you have with food. Divorcing food and sedintary lifestyles are essential components.

The Little Things
Those little things are actually big things! Congrats! One of my students, 7 yrs old, said, "Ms. ------, it looks like you've been losin' pounds!" I gave him the biggest hug because I know his comment was heart felt and honest. It just made me smile for days .

50 Baby!
In 12 weeks, I've hit my first big goal of losing 50 lbs! It has been a battle of discipline, but soooo worth it. After getting bloodwork done last week, Dr. says I'm not diabetic anymore and my blood pressure is normal! Also, I have stopped snoring, so I'm not using my CPAP regularly which has made me use less Ambien . Even with the pain, struggle, and stalls, I have to say it was ALL worth it. My journey is not over, and the next 25 lbs will be tough...but not impossible. Stay strong, stay focused, and stay positive!

Got Hernias?
Ok, so for the past week I've had bronchitis and have been coughing by head off! So much, that it has made me throw up several times (upside, I did lose 3 lbs. in 5 days!)I went to the Dr. and got anitbiotics and cough medicine, but the episodes of coughing continued. Yesterday I was stretching and felt a SHARP pulling pain in my lower abdomen. I quickly stopped and applied pressure. Nothing is protruding, but when I stretch like I am going to do a back bend it is PAINFUL! Could this be a hernia from coughing? Could this be something else? Is this nothing? Any insight will help before I take the doctor route. BTW...Go Kentucky Wildcats!

What Size Am I!?
Well, I'm not a "big and tall" guy, but i feel your pain. I've recently moved from the catagory of "a petite woman size" (a.k.a. short and fat) and I too find it hard to find things that fit in all the right places. Fortunately for women, some clothes are made with Lycra or another stretchy material. It might be time to treat yourself to a few tailored items

When People Tell You How You've Changed
I'm so glad you and others around you are noticing your happiness! Money can buy you a lot, but it can't buy true inner happiness! It wasn't until recently that I noticed I was getting my "happy" back. I was receiving more hugs from kids at school, missed only 2 days of work in the last 9 weeks compared to 6 during Dec-Feb. last year, and others have noticed a "pep in my step". There will be downer days as we know, but stay focused and keep rockin' the happy!

Mood Swings
You are definetly not alone on this one. For awhile, my friends said they didn't know if I was gonna hug them or punch them, laugh or cry. THEN, at my one month check up, a P.A. told me to stop taking my depression/anxiety medicine immediately, cold turkey. Girl, I was a mess! I finally called 2 weeks later and complained and they said I wasn't supposed to stop taking it, they made a mistake! Anyways, I am good now. I hope you are coping better with the mood swings, if not, see your Dr. Good Luck

Time Of The Month During Your Surgery?
I'm like clockwork and mine was supposed to start the day after surgery. Well, my body decided not to have it, which made me happy. Unfortunately, now there is MORE pain, bloating, and cramps...but that only lasts a few days, and I wouldn't trade this surgery for anything! If you do start, honey don't even worry about it, I'm sure they've seen it all, and in the large scheme of things, that's nothing! Best of Luck!

One Year Ago Today I Changed The Course Of My Life

Alcohol Post Op
My Dr. said 6 months too. I was a VERY social drinker. My coworkers even asked me why I wasn't coming to Happy Hour on Fridays anymore. Then the they noticed the weight, so they assumed I was just dieting. I'm going to stick to the 6 months no alcohol and have my first drink after school on the last day before summer break. Hopefully I will have reached my goal by then and celebrate!
