Protein Is Such A Pain!
have you tried the 3 oz Protein shots? the atkins Protein Bars? the greek yogurt? I'm about 5 weeks post op as well and I still haven't used any form of protein powder or even a blender and I'm tracking my protein and everything else with myfitnesspal. The shakes I use are awesome and taste great. Maybe you want to try some other kinds. Below is a picture of the kind I'm using and I still love them after 3 months of drinking them http://www.contoursoftheearth.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/pure-protein-shake-cookies-creme-e1313198653500.jpg

Buffet Discounts?
Some places do knock off prices if you have a bariatric card. This also allows you to order from kids menus. You can ask one from your doctor or there is a generic one you can find on google. Here is a generic one you can get signed http://www.obesityhelp.com/magazine/RestaurantCard.html

Self Pay Patients
2-3 months sounds like the average after you enter the pre op stage. I too was self pay and had a BLIS certified surgeon (best ones to go to since they have the lowest complication stats) Cost me about $17,000 so you're not too far off that amount.

Vitamin Deficiencies
they put me on iron last week (and yes I'm a guy) and I had a Vitamin K def. Fixed the vitamin K issue cause I was taking the WRONG kind of vitamin k. I needed to take K1 and I had been taking K2. No one in my program office had explained the difference. I'm sure def will come and go though. This was my first vitamin test and to only be low on one vitamin in my book wasn't all that bad in my eyes.

I take 1200 in the liquid in the morning and then maybe another hit prior to going to the gym. Far less than what you'd find in a 5 hr Energy shot so you're fine taking more daily. I call it my b12 zoom cause I'm bouncing off the walls right after taking it!
