I agree with everything the others have said and only want to add one small point: 14 pounds in 17 days is amazing. Please don't diminish your successes. You need all the success you can get right now.

No! No! And don't put the idea inside my head : ) I'm trying to stay away from the foods that got me to where I needed the sleeve. I'm also trying to get away from the idea of food as a reward. It does sound good though.

Thanks for sharing your story. I was slender, under 120 pounds until I reached forty. That was when the lack of exercise and huge appetite caught up with me. From then on, I put on weight fast. At 186 pounds, I had enough.Hello sleeve!

On the Eggface site, you can "search" for recipes. I bought an ice cream maker and am getting ready to make her pistachio ice cream!

Most places offer a Soup appetizer, too. I usually order that and have them bring it out with others' meals.

Why don't you just fix your own food and/or keep track of the Proteins, calories, carbs, etc. yourself? He is wonderful to support you, but if it causes you to be critical of him maybe you should take over now.

JenniJune - I'm happy for you that you haven't undergone the misery of dumping or sliming, they are horrible! However, I'm willing to get yelled at here, it isn't always a good thing when we can handle all those things early out. Speaking as an "old timer" (2 years out this week), we see plenty of people who are freshly post-op come on here and say how ecited they are that they have no problem handling a bunch of foods, when they should be asking themselves whether they should actually be eating them, regardless of ability. Just because we can, doesn't mean we should. Yes, I am technically capable of eating bread and Pasta and swigging a soda, does that mean I should? If I could at a few weeks out or months out, should I have? No, the answer is no.

Although I knew I would need to buy some more clothes as I dropped weight, I had been putting it off. Today my smallest pair of jeans fell down when I was gardening in the front yard. I don't believe anyone was around to see it and I find it hilarious, but tomorrow I am off to the stores.

I've told no one but immediate family and I'm happy with that decision. I figure it is no one else's business and I don't see that it is an appropriate topic for strangers or casual acquaintances. They probably don't have any interest and probably would wonder why I was telling them such personal information.

Thank you all for your comments. I had a LONG talk with my PCP this morning and am feeling much better about considering VSG. I have to agree with my doctor - the risk of not doing anything far outweighs any risk from the surgery. Yes, there is a possibility of complications but you just roll with the punches.
I think to myself - if I had cancer, I would do what I need to do to take care of it. I have a weight problem and need to do what I need to do to take care of that too!
Looking forward to a more in depth conversation when meeting with surgeon soon.

I could have gone to work after one week, but lots of folks on here have shared their stories of complications and discomfort at that point. You are taking your chances.
The scars are minimal, but isn't the point of the surgery to improve our health and the quality of our lives? Scars would seem to take a back seat when compared to a goal like that.

I have battled heartburn and reflux for years. When I was pregnant with my oldest I craved Water but could barely drink it because it made the heartburn so bad.. All these years I have thought it was either in my head or I was just looney, but I finally asked the dr about it, totally expecting him to laugh at me. Needless to say, Im glad its not unheard of. In the last 5-8 years I have really battled heartburn and reflux, ulcers, bleeding unlcers, etc. I was really hoping this surgery would cure it but apparently not. I am up to 2 prevacids a day 1x am and 1x pm plus a pepcid in the afternoon to keep it under control. I love sf koolaid but cannot drink it. But hey, it this is the only negative Im good. I have never had vomiting, dumping, extreme pain, sliming etc. I have been lucky!
BTW, I made it halfway to my goal this am! WooHoooooooo!!!!

My surgeon told me more patients need it than not. He said it is considered a normal part of the surgery. My PCP said more than 50% of adults have it and that it generally does not have symptoms.

I can't say I felt that way, but I can say it is time to do this for you and your family. It sounds as though you are always taking care of others. All right then, take care of you for them. What would their lives be like if you died prematurely from complications of obesity? Would they be able to take care of you if your health problems required it?
My hospital stay was two days and it sounds as though most others had the same experience. You will be home in no time. My recovery at home was very uneventful and I could resume many activities after one day.
Best of luck to you as you make your decision.

Cancelling on the operating room at the last minute is a big deal for the hospital and for your doctor. You waited until it was too late for them to schedule someone else.Take time to decide. If you want to go through with it, I hope your doctor will reschedule. Best of luck to you. I hope you figure it all out.

I found it easy, too, and I'm a real baby when it comes to pain. The hospital gave me a morphine pump I never had to use. The doctor gave me pain and nausea medicines for at home that I never had to use. For about a week, there was slight pain getting out of bed.
People tend not to post about experiences like that. It's the tough situations that get the attention because they stand out so strongly in the person's mind. I was sleeved on April 23rd this year and don't even really remember much about the surgery or the recovery.
Good luck! You will be so glad you did this!

Maybe I do have to, I just haven't gotten any bills yet. There was some confusion on my part because I have both Blue Cross/Blue Shield federal and Tricare. Originally I was going to get the lap band and was assured my insurance companies would completely cover the cost. When I changed to the sleeve, no one told me Tricare considered it an experimental procedure and would not pay any for it. As of now, though, I haven't received any bills.
