  1. Hi,please tell me how you get all your protein in that way?I hardly manage with eating meat and chicken.Would love to eat more plant based foods and protein.

    Hi.

Well along with getting sleeved a year ago there are two movies that absolutely changed my life. One was "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" (about juicing) and the other was "Forks Over Knives" (about plant based diets). Once you stop eating animal products you will feel light and powerful. I get protein in with lots and lots and lots of greens, legumes, nuts, seeds, soy beans. I eat greens before I eat anything else these days.

Never felt better in my life.

Let me know if you have any specific questions or anything.

    :-)

  2. Please tell me more about green juicing. I am getting my sleeve tomorrow and just today my daughter and I were talking about getting your vitamins through green juicing

Hi! Well, there is a fantastic movie I watched which got me turned on to juicing -> "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". It is a very entertaining movie and you can get it on Netflix or iTunes. For a while you could watch i for free at www.jointhereboot.com. This movie changed my life!!! So..., I started out with a Jack LaLane juicer and it works just fine. But, I've started making quite a bit of juice - I sell/give juice to friends and colleagues at work - and I needed something more industrial. I wanted an auger juicer so I got the Omega J8006 and LOVE it. The juice I make the most is the following recipe:

kale - washing super well is a must &remove the toughest part of the center rib

    spinach

    celery

    cucumber

    apples and/or pears

    lemon - peel off rind

lots of fresh ginger - peel off skin

    sometime I also add parsley

This recipe is so very delicious.

I highly recommend watching the movie. Then, let me know if you have any questions.

    :-)

  3. I hear you! I was very frustrated with the whole pre-op process...meetings, tests, staff not following up, etc. Be VERY proactive and keep on top of everything. Plus, with all the appointments and tests, I had to pay $6 parking fee every time I went there. Talk about frustrating!

Just think of the positives, like losing the 8 lbs pre-op already!!! Way to go and BEST of LUCK!

  4. Girl, good for you!!! I feel your excitement and it is super exciting! So many positive exciting moments like these are just beginning for you! I've been freaking excited since I was sleeved. Of course you will have moments, but use these OMG moments to fuel past those.

    Congratulations!

  5. Good for you! Follow your passion. Girl, I'm right there with you. I've been thinking about going back to school for a nutrition/dietician. I actually have a career counseling appointment in two weeks. I'm completely on the plant-based diet path and would love to guide/share and coach people along that same path to optimal health. I've also gone to culinary school, but also interested in getting raw chef certification.

I wish you the best...go for it!!!

  6. One thing I highly recommend...after surgery when you have to cough, if you have to cough, hold a pillow to and into your tummy. It helps tremendously! A heating pad was soooo very wonderful for me.

The one thing I recommend...a POSITIVE attitude! Makes a world of difference.

Some people don't have pain, but...most do and just expect it.

Check out my blog if you want to read about my experiences.

YEAH! Very happy for you. Your life is going to change...make it a positive, healthy life change. It is up to you. Congratulations and I can't wait to read your future posts.

    One Love.

  7. Well, I bet you won't do that again! Hopefully you got it out of your system. Crap that goes in...makes you feel like crap...and your body, with your sleeve, will remind you of that. You've proven to yourself that that crap doesn't make you feel better nor relieve any stress. Next time, go for a walk, a jog, or go somewhere and scream your lungs out. You might get a sore throat, but....you won't have to wash your car and you will have saved a little $ rather than spend it on junk that made you feel like junk anyway. Or, go shopping and buy a new top or something. Or, sit by yourself, breath, and meditate and bring in light and guide your mind to good thoughts.

    One Love.

  8. I hear you sister! I can empathize. Your sleeve date does seem a long way away. I know I was also so very anxious and wanted to have my surgery sooner than later and once approved, the date couldn't come soon enough. I think when I was first approved a surgery date was set out a few months but then there was a cancellation and I got in sooner. So..., you might want to get on the list for cancellations and maybe get a date sooner.? If that doesn't happen, you have time to prepare. Try to change your eating to all healthy and vital nutrition now for you and your family. I highly recommend three movies to watch that are super motivating and will help to get the message that the processed food and junk we all used to eat (hopefully 'used to eat' is the key and that stuff is in the past since being sleeved and more aware of good nutrition) is just NOT necessary for life and good health. They are - "Forks Over Knives", "The Weight of the Nation", and "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". I highly recommend watching these movies. It will change something for the positive and better nutrition you and what you are feeding your family - and what you shouldn't be feeding your family. I recommend watching these...you know, in your free time when you are not chasing around your four kids! Yikes! Time to concentrate on YOU!

And, I recommend exercise every day as the stronger you are the easier your recovery will be and you will be one step ahead! Meditation and visualization is also something to start practicing. It will all help in the long run.

Make this time as positive for YOU as you can.

    Best of luck to you.

    One Love.

  9. AND you will get there!!! Your list is very similar to mine and most everyone else on this site.

I did my first flight a week ago since being sleeved and - OMG - the flight was actually comfortable and in economy seating!!! I fit in the seat just fine with room to spare. I could even bend over and tie my shoes and get items out of my bag that was under the seat, with the seat belt buckled and didn't have to strain at all! AND, I didn't get any sort of look like I used to when boarding the flight and sitting next to someone while spilling out of my seat and into my neighbor's seat. It was so awesome. Flying comfortablely = check!

    Improved love life = check!

Shopping at a normal size clothing store - no more plus size clothing! = check!

    Increased energy = check!

and on and on and I'm only even half way to goal. All good things still to come.

    One Love.

It really does happen! Thank you sleeve.

  10. Well, I advise everyone to do this...stay away from artificial sweetners. I honestly think they create a sense of hunger and I think it is just poison. I also recommend eating 5-6-7 small meals throughout the day rather than 3 meals. Who ever said we need to eat three meals a day...and we all followed it...had us all bamboozled. If you really need to jump across the counter and have at it with some chicken...go ahead and do it. However, I bet once you do or once you eat more than you can handle, you won't do it again or you will learn soon not to do it - as you will likely get the nasty slimming and need to throw it up. I often think I can eat more than I am, but when I go 'past that point' I definitely pay for it - either lots of burping or I have to throw it up. So, learning to eat real small portions several times throughout the day is key for me. I've also had some evening cravings and I find that it I do a little protein, it usually goes away. I've been doing a couple spoonfuls of hummus at night to squelch that sort of craving.

I swear I have to relearn how and how much to eat every day.

    That is my two cents.

  11. I've talked about this in my blog. It's your choice. I didn't tell anyone other than my husband (of course), sister and two friends that live in other states. No one at work knows. It's my business and I don't want my surgery to be the topic of conversation or any bias or preconceived notions. Simple. But, in stating that I also understand why sleevers make it public. I just chose not to tell anyone and all is cool and positive. You'll know the right way for you. Whatever is your comfort level.

  12. Wait until you get to about the 7th week or 8th week! I will get better. I've had the same thing. My hardest week was between week 6 and 7, I would throw-up almost everything except for the protein shakes. I'm just now past the 7 week point and I can finally eat some sort of solid food. I was getting rather concerned for a bit, but....each day truly gets better!

  13. Yes, I agree - PUT THE SCALE AWAY! I weigh myself every 3-4 days. If I weighed myself 3-4 times a day I would go WACKO!

Get your fluids - water- in, all of it! Follow the instructions for fluids and foods. Eat 4oz at a time, 4-5 times a day - put protein powder (Beneprotein) in pureed soups, protein shakes, etc. Eat mushies until you can eat more solid foods. Baked sweet potatoes, soft tofu, hummus, legumes, etc. - nutritious food, not fatty or sugary foods. YOU HAVE THE POWER to take care of yourself and your health. If you are dehydrated at this point out its because you aren't getting enough fluids in. They tell you not to use a straw, but if it helps to get fluids in, use a straw. I do.

Think about the positive and direct your actions in a positive direction.

    Best to you.

  14. Congrats!! It is truly those little things that all add up and just make you feel terrific! I'm at 5 weeks post-op and melting away! I am still on liquid and purees as I'm just not able to eat anything much of substance. But, that is ok with me. I'll take the eating part super slow. So happy for you!

  15. I hear you! I'm pretty certain most everyone that is thinking about having this surgery and those have have, have all the same fears, thoughts, concerns, etc. I know I did. I had tried every diet possible and would lose weight but it always came back. I was on anti-depressants for the past 3-4 years. Once I got sleeved, I realized that felt like I had been in hibernation for the past 3-4-5 years and I suddenly woke up and wanted to really live life! The sleeve changes your life. It is not an easy surgery. It is major surgery. When you are going through it, it is so real and pain is real. But, it passes and each day gets better. I was sleeved on 1/17/12. It is the best decision I've ever made and I am so happy I did it. I've blogged about my experience a bit, so feel free to check out my blog.

I hope for you the best and peace of mind. I agree with LilMssDiva, venting and asking questions on this site does help a lot! We are all here to help and have this one thing in common, but as you will find, lots of things in common.

  16. Wishing you the best. Sounds like you have a wonderful support system ready to be there for you during your healing. That is very important. Just remember to take care of yourself during the healing time and let you support system help you by getting you up and walking, but let them also take care of themselves. You will be there for them soon.

Congratulations! Very excited for you. It is a trippy journey and I personally am thrilled to be on it.

Love your positive attitude. It will carry you farther than you know.

    One Love.

  17. It helps a bunch to press a small pillow up against your stomach area when you cough or sneeze. Coughing and sneezing were very painful for me.

YIKES! You took out your own pain pump!? All that was done for me in the hospital. Thank goodness. I think I would have passed out.

    Each day gets even better.

    Stay strong!

    One Love.
